@JonEricson I'm pinning that as a warning, let him who has an ear...

6 hours later…
2:40 PM
@MonicaCellio I failed to initially specify that I was actually looking for Tanakh-based answers to my Tanakh question, and apologized in a comment on this answer. But even without that, this is answer is a paragraph of unsupported assertions and doesn't really answer the question (about the two "seeings"). I don't know if it's salvagable.

3:27 PM
@MonicaCellio I want to type up an answer starting with "As with all contradictions in the Pentateuch, the documentary hypothesis solves it cleanly."

3:40 PM
@FrankLuke laugh
But if you could actually make that argument, at least the answer would be in scope.

@MonicaCellio Are you a programmer or otherwise in a tech field? That isn't the first programming term you've used in conversation with me.

@FrankLuke what, scope? Sorry, I didn't realize I was jargoning. :-) I'm a techie, yeah.

@MonicaCellio Not a problem for me at all, for some reason I thought you were in a law field. The other term I remember had to do with merging changes based on the head but skipping one rev.

@FrankLuke funny, but I've been suspected of being a lawyer before, even in a Jewish context where we're all halacha (and talmud) geeks so it's not that. (Otherwise, sometimes it's probably that -- there's a style of close reading, reasoning, etc that is probably common to all these areas.) I mainly do software-interface design and tech writing.

3:57 PM
@MonicaCellio My first Hebrew professor said that the best Hebrew students he ever had came from the following backgrounds: math, engineering, accounting, and computer science.

@FrankLuke I cited my technical background (particularly specification and tech writing) in my application to a para-rabbinic program, arguing that this positioned me well for talmudic and halachic discussions. :-)
