Why are Adam and Eve ashamed of their nakedness, when they eat the forbidden fruit? (Genesis 3:7)

If snakes were a symbol in the ancient world of wisdom, fertility, and immortality, then how come the snake in the garden of Eden convinces Eve to eat the forbidden fruit in the garden (Genesis 3), thereby disobeying God's word? Which is more important here - God or the snake?

Since wearing clothing in primeval nonbiblical narratives indicates a mark of civilization, what do you think the exit of the garden of Eden is supposed to mean? Do you think it carries the same meaning as other narratives of similar theme, or do you think it carries a different meaning?
