@GratefulDisciple I've heard a lot about him, but haven't read anything myself unfortunately. My wife and I read the Pilgrims' Progress together many years ago, and Richard Sibbes' the Bruised Reed just a year or two ago, those are the two I recall most clearly.
My reading is rather diverse, I tend to hit a wide range of topics and periods. The early church is another favourite topic. 'The Patient Ferment of the Early Church' was a fascinating read from last year - a meditation on the topic of Patience, exploring the habitus of the 1st-4th Century churches and three treatises on Patience written by authors across the period
There are a lot of more mundane church history books out there, but it was a stand-out for me in that it really gave the time of day to considering what discipleship actually looked like in early christian periods
