@Davïd That is nifty. I'm confused about what happens when I click on a Greek word, though. It seems to be a random Hebrew word generator.

The LXX tags I guess are supposed to map to the Hebrew but don't? (The English does quite nicely.) Could words in the LXX be expected to link 1:1 to the MT anyway? It seems like they're too different (although not here).

@Davïd Spiffy. I actually have the LXX loaded up in both a private instance on BB and on a devel server for incil.info, but it's nice to see it on the public site for others that might actually use them. I was mostly using it as a test case for logical transitions between versions.

For example if you have an app with three translations open for comparison, say ESV, VUL, and GNT and you are looking at a NT passage, then you switch to an OT passage there is a good chance you would want the GNT column to morph into an LXX.

@Susan I'm not sure about that, Susan. John Dyer (see "tweet") bunged this in pretty quickly, and I think there are still a few rough edges. I'm quite ignorant of what's going on "underneath", and how the code works, although I think @caleb probably knows. ;)

@Caleb Exactly right - that would be great behaviour. I use this online app reasonably frequently, and three-col switch you describe would be wonderful to have in a single step!

@Davïd Looks like he just bungled the options on the data import. There is an importer process that pre-processes the text, and I guess the source he used is tagged with Strongs numbers, but there must be an off-by-one style bug somewhere. Unfortunately I know the code for the app but don't have access to the sources he uses for that hosted instance (as many of them are proprietary that he's gotten special permissions for. The LXX source I have isn't tagged at all.

@Caleb Interesting. I think that "tweet" link is a "thread" which shows where he got the source from (among other tidbits).

@Davïd I have it working for incil.info but I don't think a Turkish-only interface is what you are after, nor do I have tagged material working (yet). I'll look at adding something similar to BB. It would be a little more complex as the architecture isn't well setup for that sort of thing, but I think it would be doable. Can you open an issue on Github requesting the feature?

@Caleb While trying to figure out why in the world anyone would tag the LXX with Hebrew words, I think I figured out that it's actually meant to be Greek - the numbers are correct, but it's looking them up in Hebrew instead of Greek. For the 2nd word, G2980 is laleo (correct); H2980 is yavav (given).

@Davïd Thanks. I'll fiddle with it when I get a chance and we'll see how John views the idea. He's (understandably) resistant to added complexity in his baby, but if we can prove that it's doable without interface clutter—hide the complexity in the back-end logic while presenting an intuitive experience he might go for it.

@Susan Aaa, even simpler to fix then. That's just a flag in the meta data file for the source importer.

@Caleb or @Davïd Do you know any repository of biblical texts (e.g. LXX, WLC) for download and personal use?

@PaulVargas Depends on how you plan to use them. There are lots of sources out there but the encoding, format and included markup varies widely. You should probably work backwards from knowing what you want to do with it and how, then figure out what source format makes the most sense.

@Caleb I want to create a very simple application for Android to search for a word or phrase. I made one very simple to find a word in Spanish. Search is faster than in Logos (I suppose it is slow because it has many features). I would include a parallel with the original language.

@PaulVargas Sounds like you need something that matches the source format your app already understands. What Spanish source did you use? And have you tried the plain text search in something like AndBible with a proper index for the translation you are searching? That already has parallel display capabilities and pretty fast search.

@Caleb It's a JSON. Previously this was a table in a MySQL database.

I downloaded the code project in Java, but I have not had a chance to review it.
