What do we want to do about this? User was last here yesterday; he hasn't responded to the comment or Frank's edit. There was some discussion here a couple days ago. I think the only way to salvage it is with a pretty-severe edit.
@FrankLuke @JonEricson ^^^

I must admit I find it hard to believe that anyone actually talks like that. It strikes me as affected.
But perhaps I just don't move in those circles.

@TRiG also out of place (as all salutations are) on SE, but we decided to leave it in place as a signal for the style of post to come.
(I don't move in those circles either, so that it seems affected to me doesn't mean much.)

@MonicaCellio It would be severe. I like how he connects the verse in question with "take up your cross" as his answer. We'd have to gut everything above to about 2 paragraphs, though.

@FrankLuke yeah, severe. Hence raising it here first, since that would normally be beyond the scope of an acceptable edit. But the user hasn't engaged with us yet.

@MonicaCellio My suggestion is much less popular. ;-)

A: Propose a privilege to sit in the 500 reputation mark

Jon EricsonBounties. Currently it only takes 75 reputation to set a bounty. Since the smallest award possible is 50, that means that someone who tries out that privilege as soon as it's available will be knocked back to 2/3rds of their starting reputation. I've seen new users do this—often in response to...

But I was thinking of some of our new users who see me offer a bounty on their questions and then offer their own on some other question. It sort of defeats the purpose in my mind.
@MonicaCellio Not sure. I'd just as soon leave it alone. (I just got around to a downvote. If we see this question pop up again sometime, it might be a good moment to delete.)

@JonEricson I hadn't seen that (I see it's less than an hour old). It is now a little less unpopular than it was. :-) Seriously, though, 75 rep is way too low for giving away at least 50.

@MonicaCellio It seemed like I no-brainer when I thought of it this afternoon. I guess bounties are more effective on large sites? (Thanks for the vote. ;-)

@JonEricson I guess so. On the sites I frequent they serve as incentives to look more closely at a question you've probably already looked at. (Or, sometimes, as specific rewards.) I gather that on some sites they serve to get the question seen at all. That's not part of my experience -- even on MSO, where the main page turns over more frequently than I can read it so I know I miss stuff, I don't have the habit of going to the featured tab. Maybe if I were on more big sites it'd be different.

@MonicaCellio I think if I were to get active on Stack Overflow again, I'd watch the Perl, Lua, and ksh tags for bounties. But those are small enough, I'd probably have seen most of the questions in those tags anyway. (Or maybe not. I just looked and there are 28,299 questions!)

@JonEricson boggle SO is...not like other sites. :-)
