@misk94555 I've worked with lasers that come with pre-made UART interfaces, plenty to pick from. Perhaps not ideal for water(?) but some similar optical solution sounds convenient. Maybe there are MEMS sensors or whatever that work similarly.
The 2nd option was connecting a liquid level switch to our own MCU board (we've got our own breakout board laying around somewhere). The software dudes will have to maintain the firmware for it.
The 3rd option was to look for a DAQ box like LabJACK and integrating it with our software. (PLCs didn't even cross the conversation.)
