Hi, why am I getting downvoted on a correct and helpful answer I had provided?

A: Combining 2x1 mux and 4x1 mux with AND gate

uriyabaYour answer is incorrect, since when computing the output of both multiplexers, you incorrectly took into the account the dependency of the output on the selector / selectors. Watch closely how I did it and compare to the results you got! According to the truth table of a 2x1 mux and a 4x1 mux, w...

@uriyaba "Please don't hand out solutions to obvious homework problems. That's not what this site is about."
I know it's hard to take negative downvotes, but think of how it's only -2 rep versus +10 rep for an upvote.

@adamaero This is what my response was to that comment:
I didn't just "hand out" the solution - I explained why OP is wrong and how, and explained how to get to the answer, while linking OP to helpful resources and further reading on the subject. Also, as OP said, it's not a homework question, but rather an example they don't understand from their teacher's notes, so even if I did "hand out" a solution, no harm is done
I don't get it - I was being helpful to the OP, they even marked my answered and thanked me as it helped them understand where they went wrong, as I guided them through their mistakes
It's ridiculous to be downvoted over such a thing

I always take negative downvotes too personally
Yes, you put a bunch of time and love into that answer... I gave you a pity upvote, but if I randomly saw that answer, I wouldn't upvote or downvote it.

Also 6/12 of my questions didn't get any upvotes. People are reluctant to upvote it seems.

The problem with an answer to a homework question is, the asker doesn't learn how you arrived at that answer. Even if you explain how, that is not the asker performing that work. Maybe some people can learn from explanations, but I sure can't - I need to actually do the work to understand it.
Our moderators can be a little trigger-happy at times. That's because we have dozens of questions a day about homework, and it becomes easy to cast close votes for that reason. The queue is never-ending...
I think the answer is informative and well-worded. But it provides an answer to a homework problem, which the moderators prohibit. Sorry, all I can say is don't get discouraged. This is just one question - there will be many more.
