There are so many kids these days who, if they actually look through the options, wouldn't have the slightest clue what "Lotus compatibility" actually is.
Also, I only switched because that's what the companies I worked for used. I've long been a fan of WordPerfect and still prefer it except for the fact that Word doesn't import & view it natively, so it's difficult to communicate with the rest of the world.
@BigBen I'm sure there's some clowns out there who are still running their 286s and complaining loudly why their local Radio Shack no longer stocks PS/2 + USB adapters for the newfangled optical mouse (where's the good ol' trackball?!? That was solid as a rock!).
@this You may scoff, but I just bought a new PC with an ASUS AM4+ MoBo (supporting the latest AMD Ryzen CPUs) and it's got a green/blue 9-pin DIN round connector for mouse/keyboard. I literally laughed out loud when I saw it at the store. The sales kid had no idea why they put it on there either.
@this Very true, but you'll never find this at Worst Buy:
at least when I went to one 10 years ago, their in-store selection for those kind of stuff was just one small pegboard, 90-95% of the wall/shelves are just boxed gadgets that you can get from the Bogus Buy.
Last I was in a Radio Shack (10+ years ago?) it was, basically, a toy store without any electronic components. Worst Buy won't even list those parts on their web site, though.
Sadly, Fry's seems to have gone a similar route. We had one locally, first one East of the Mississippi, I believe. Over the last several years, their on-shelf stock dwindled. I asked a guy there once why they had so little on the shelf. He said most people order online then go to the store to pick up, so it's just not worth putting it on the shelf.
Sadly, our local store closed about a year ago. In the end, it wasn't that big a loss - their prices weren't all that great anymore, and with Amazon, I can get most things tomorrow. Not quite as good as heading to the store today, but close enough.
With Amazon, I can get some things today, even. If I'm ordering the right things.
TBH I'm surprised at how food delivery has taken off. I still can't bring myself to trust a pizza faced teenager to pick the freshest vegetables and deliver it without bruising to my home or to the curb....
@this I'm not a fan of grocery shopping, but I do like getting the heck out of my house! I've gone grocery shopping with my wife far more often in the last 2 years just because I'm tired of seeing my house.
