Some of the questions I see closed for being "opinion-based" on SO really lead me to question how well some people with that moderating power are exercising it.

SSMS version question: I'm running 17.9.1 on one machine and 18.9.2 on another. I've got no real desire to be running the 17.x version, but don't seem to have been prompted to update - is there a particular reason not to update it?
I've not noticed any issues with either, but I'm not using SSMS to its fullest capacity, I'm sure...

> @jim-oflaherty-jr-qalocate-com Sorry I was thinking of the compatibility checker. As far as I know 64-bit and 32-bit Excel/Office are basically the same ([here](docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/client-developer/shared/…

> The SSMS 18.x installation doesn't upgrade or replace SSMS versions 17.x or earlier. SSMS 18.x installs side by side with previous versions, so both versions are available for use. However, if you have a preview version of SSMS 18.x installed, you must uninstall it before installing SSMS 18.9.2. You can see if you have the preview version by going to the Help > About window.
not sure what 17 has that 18 won't have but I am skeptical that you will miss anything.

interesting that there's no prompt in 17.x to update to 18.x
@this lysdexic much?

? No. I am operating on the assumption that the reason 18 doesn't replace 17 because 17 has some features that 18 no longer support or something like that.
Then again, it might be just Microsoft being typically Microsoft and making things complicated for no good reason.

How do I close @this window?
I know there's a keyboard shortcut for it, and occasionally I've hit it accidentally. I then managed to remember it and use it intentionally, but now I've totally forgotten...

Ctrl+r
also found in Windows => Hide Results Pane

yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking, but it's not working. Wonder if I borked my key config. :/
Is it Alt-R that causes the code pane to refresh itself and go look for new tables/columns?

I think you mean ctrl+shift+r to refresh the local "intelli"sense cache.

@theVBE-it'srightforme, You could argue that everything posted on SO is opinion. Even if the opinion is from the official documentation, it could be wrong. There is a good discussion of it here: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/255468/opinion-based-questions

@HackSlash In my opinion, my opinions are facts and anything to the contrary are merely an opinion.

@this is the way
You should end your SO answers with "I have spoken"

I finally had enough frustration trying to figure out Office/Excel versions, 32-vs-64 bitness, and what function were available where, I spent the time to [create a Google Sheet capturing ev
