Version 2.5.2.5878
OS: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0, x64
Host Product: Microsoft Office XP x86
Host Version: 10.0.6501
Host Executable: EXCEL.EXE

**Description**
"Find All References" only works on modules but stopped working on members from the "Code Explorer" (it works fine on RD 2.5.2.5871). The feature works fine when called from the "Code Pane" context menu.

EDIT: repro confirmed.

> @aitorsol It is strange that I also have MZTools and we both have the same issue. I disabled MZTools addin (not uninstalled) and my Rubberduck version now works perfectly.

Just disable MZTools from the add-in manager page, try rubberduck see if it works, then reactivate MZtools. It will help the developers.

I love MZTools and it is used daily, but I must admit, the bits Rubberduck duplicates are better, if Rubberduck had some of the other functions, I would even think of dropping MZTools.

@mansellan The true sign of a geek: "Can I get good internet speed in this neighborhood? Yes, OK, I'll look at a house here, then." :)

What functions?

Automated billing?

LOL
tbh there is one thing MZ does that RD can't do right now: finding identifier references in comments. ...because it treats the source code as text...
MZ: Here's all the places you're using that variable in commented-out code
RD: Commented-out code? Delete that!
Code Metrics needs some love and could very easily show LoC (and %comments) per project/module/scope
we could have another "pass" (CodePanePass, AttributesPass, ...CommentsPass?) that sends comment blocks to the parser and, if they parse as legal code, we could have a special CommentedIdentifierReference that tracks commented-out identifier references
in other news, we're just under 500 downloads of 2.5.2.1 now

2:24 PM
It would seem that commented-out code would often be uncompilable due changes after commenting it out. The Parser would have to ignore that a block does not compile...but still recognize it as code. Possible?

:D

@MathieuGuindon a fast find & replace?
I know we have symbol & references search, but sometimes it's useful to search text.
even VS allows for that.

yeah that's the RegexSearchReplace vaporware tool

does it have to be regex all the time, tho?
one other major aspect --- multi-line find & replace.

@this just a "use regular expressions" checkbox suffices I think
so yeah, that tool needs to happen. multiline search & all

Yeah. Does anyone uses the "extended" feature?
TBH I don't think I ever used that. only the "normal" and the "regular expression"

2:45 PM
I occasionally use the RegEx S&R in SSMS, so it is handy, but not all the time
Not sure what "extended" is, though.

that's from the notepad++ but if you look at hte bottom left, there's 3 search mode.
apparently "extended" allow you to include some non-printable characters

Ah, yes, "sorta Regex" S&R

yep. I want find "in current document", "in all opened documents", "in project", and "everywhere"

hmm IDK about "all open documents". we can't see what's open! :D
if it was tabbed, YES!!!

that's another thing
we need a "close all windows" / "close all but this" tool

2:48 PM
(does anyone use VBIDE in windowed mode? I never...)

I never either, and then I systematically find myself having 80+ opened modules

same here
out of sight, out of mind

@this occasionally it's handy, but not often.
I usually find I've got all modules in a project open in the VBE.

@this but it's going to be tabbed... eventually. (AvalonMentions++;)

2:51 PM
I've heard anecdotal reports that leaving modules open is bad and causes lags or crashes.

@MathieuGuindon not entirely true
should probably test that for repo in current versions

@MathieuGuindon ahem

@this with RD promoting having projects with many small specialized modules, I think we should have commands to "close all but this" and "close all opened documents" (wait would "document" be confusing?)
@FreeMan amazing :)

TBH I never liked MZ-Tools' documents
just "window" suffice.
and yes, we definitely want those commands, and more esp. when we've been Avalon'd

2:56 PM
let's call them "tabs" just for fun
> Close all tabs
huh wait there's tabs?
probably as bad an idea as it sounds

and you'll have some lunkheads filing a GH issue "I WANT MY WINDOWS BACK!!!"

3:46 PM
@MathieuGuindon For VB6 at least, there are hacks to get tabs (very intense, binary gets patched with some ASM). Not suggesting RD do that, but it is possible.

In Access, I believe the default is tabbed, which drives me nuts, but I guess some folk like it. It forces forms to be full tab-size instead of the size I want it to be, so I'm not a fan...

@mansellan gee, i wonder why my VB6 crashes consistently on a Tuesday...

@this lol!

@FreeMan FWIW, I hate the old windowed mode. it's just distracting.

@this hence, options FTW!

3:50 PM
@FreeMan Steve Jobs would like a word with you....

Yeah, well, I've gotta word for him!

Seriously, I wouldn't have minded so much if there wasn't a MDI involved. If you have MDI, you're just wasting space.
I think MDI is the worst UI idea ever to foster on the humanity, IMNSHO.

4:08 PM
@this But... you can Cascade! And that's, uh, "useful" :-)

if you're a Count Von Count, I guess?

@mansellan makes it faster to click all the red 'x' to close the windows - they've been neatly organized for you. Beyond that... not so much.

5 hours later…
8:52 PM
@FreeMan actually maximizing them would let you X htem out faster because you don't have to move your mouse at all

9:26 PM
Gents, I have an odd office com api question. So there solidworks allows me to be able to serialize some data and save to a SOLIDWORKS file in what they call "third party storage". Pretty much saves data to the file itself . the user can't see it. is there such a thing in office (Excel or project)?
hope this makes sense

@Jelly I'm not quite sure why you'd need that?
from what I know there is no such thing in office, mostly because there's very little usecase for it?

because you want to store data in the file itself and not have to store it elsewhere for flexibility

Why does a protected excel sheet not suffice?
the interesting part of that is "the user doesn't see it"

what kind of third party storage does SolidWork support?

> Well I have removed the loading at startup MZ-Tools utility and Rubberduck
works without problems, if this is useful for developers to know.
Also I have tried with the pre-release and it does not work together with
MZ-Tools and neither with CodeVBA 9.0 which gives the following error box.

9:40 PM
solidworks lets you save a string to the file
the issue is not wanting to store data elsewhere because it pertains to the file itself

ah, possibly using the same mechanism it uses for saving VBA projects.

if we store the data elsewhere then we have to manage it

The issue, however, is that in Office they have chosen to not expose that.

can you tell me more and saving vba projects? is there an api call allow for that in office?

doesn't mean you can't do it; if you are willing to do some pointer chasing but... eh.
AIUI, they all implement IStream interface

9:43 PM
any good documentation?

@Duga ~sigh ... email integration in github was a mistake

there's also a different sample using open XML SDK. whether it let you write arbitary data, I don't know.
The basic issue is that you dont' have access to the IStream using Office API. Not sure about Open XML SDK, but without that, you can't write to it. This is something that the host chooses to exposes. Solidworks chose to expose it; Office didn't.
just to think out of box, why not consider NTFS alternate data stream? that would be supported and work with any files.
