weird. I told VS2017CE to update itself (to v 15.9.13). It updated the 2 add-ins that were pending, but didn't install the VS update.
oh, wait. Maybe it did and it just took being open a while to reset the update flag?
I dunno... the notifications are cleared now, but it says "Please wait a few minutes while VS updates". Guess I'll see...

12:18 PM
the "Please wait..." spun for 30 minutes until I closed the update box. Closed & restarted VS and it seems to be happy now.

morning
my boss finally assigned me a .net programming project :)
its in VB.net, but its a step forward

congrats

:D

why the slight negative reaction to VB.net?

i know the guys here are all about the C#

ahhhh yeah

2:13 PM
i have no issue with it since im much more familiar with vb.net vs C#
that and if i got hit by a bus, the local community college does do classes on vb.net

haha that's a morbid thought for a Monday

nothing advanced like what id be making, but its at least a starting point
lol yeah, its that whole IT viewpoint
while i am a programmer, i am also apart of the IT department

OK, jtester is now taken down.

@IvenBach just saw your tagged happy fathers day stuff, thanks man
argh my power bill is crying this weekend...

@KySoto :'(
Our power bill in MN has been really low the past couple months because it's warm enough to not need heat, but cold enough to barely need air (high 60s to low 80s).

2:19 PM
@Hosch250 ikr, but gotta make sure the kiddo is cool
oh man...
forecast today... 97
tomorrow... 100, then 102 then 99

You're in California, right?

central california, the armpit area
its... meh

Cool. Or should I say "hot"?
Are prices as bad there as they are in Oregon and Washington?

the valley we live in (its freakin big, several hundred miles long) is basically just a giant high pressure zone
depends on what you are buying
if its gas... probably higher
3.42 is the cheapest right now
youd thing that with the area i live in, produce etc would be cheap, but its not really since they ship all of the food we make off the asia, and we get food from mexico
they aren't as hygienic with their food as we are and we constantly are having food recalls. my uncle in law ate some artichokes without washing them and got a really nasty parisite (i dont care because hes a giant jerk, but thats besides the point,EDIT: hes also really dumb)

He probably didn't wash because the water is radioactive. ;-)
@Hosch250 sorry, didn't have time over the weekend. I did log in briefly but got pulled away. Let me know next time.

2:26 PM
yeah there is that issue too
our water table is getting low nuff that the uranium is starting to show up in higher concentrations

Gonna choose between uranium or parasite... Hmm...

its kinda funny, all the farmers are paying for propaganda about how using water to grow food isnt a waste of water
but im like... well no, if you were growing that food for us maybe
but all they are doing is making a crapload of money selling it overseas, yeah, i know that they need food too

ahhh capitalism

but come on, sell the food locally first, THEN take care of other places

@Vogel612 There's captialism? Where?

2:29 PM
then you have companies like nestle going and bottling a crapload of the water up north even during droughts
cant even really boycot them because they have their fingers in so many pies..

I might be showing my political orientation a bit but... ahhhhh the sweet sound of capitalism
something something guillotines
am I doing this right?

Sorry, I don't really see capitalism in US. We're pretty much socialist fascist, TBF.

idk, it feels like all of the welfare goes to the corporations

If you meant crony captialism, I might agree. The market is hardly free with all the regulations and protectionism and corporate welfare.
Thus, not captialism.

yea, and all the healthcare for the people and social security and general basic living standards
especially for those suckers that chose to be born poor, right?
~bleagh

2:32 PM
healthcare is absolutely batshit crazy

^

it shouldn't cost a freakin part time minimum wage job to cover a family of 3

Of various industries, healthcare is the worst when it comes to crony "capitalism".

if you dont have insurance the costs to get care are astronomical

Not necessarily -- there has (was?) more doctors that offer cash-only discount
because they are also fed up with the insurance bullshit

2:34 PM
to be fair, i havent seen any in my area

I say was because I'm not sure if ObamaCare has made this impractical but it was definitely a thing in the years up to ObamaCare.

obamacare could have been so much better if they hadnt have gutted it

Before OC made healthcare mandatory, there used to be two rates.

then defunded it

One fairly reasonable if you didn't have insurance, and one really high for insured people.

2:35 PM
soo ... umm. At the danger of sounding a bit hypocritical: </politics?>

sorry

no worries :)

i got into frustrated rant mode

Oh, sorry :(

the only reason im not screwed on the healthcare front is VA healthcare

2:36 PM
If you want to do that more often, you might want to check out the "This Is Fine" room

heh, yeah but i definitely wouldnt be comfortable ranting to whoever lives there, you guys are cool

it's associated to Arquade, but they basically exclusively talk US politics in there
puzzlepiece is a regular over there :)

on a positive (maybe negative note) my VA disability claim is coming along
on a totally random note, anyone else have a freakin rainbow beard? mines brown red blonde and grey

red, black, brown, even a few single white hairs already

@KySoto My beard is too thin to be able to grow without looking a bit weird, but it's just dark brown with a few strands of blond.

2:43 PM
lol nice
my wife was yankin out some of my grey hairs yesterday

I've seen several people with light brown and red/blond highlights, though.

the red is only visible under the right light, though

i was like ARGHhfagds0ijgr
@Vogel612 is that light sunlight?
@Hosch250 is that by choice?

Not as far as I know.
It's certainly not by my choice... I don't go to a club for people like that :D

lol
hmm. i need to figure out if some queries arent referenced anywhere and im lazy, anyone know of a tool for that?
in part because my project is starting to get some query bloat (well in my opinion)

2:50 PM
@KySoto yes

@Vogel612 I was born poor...

@KySoto that's a generally hard problem

yeah, i know
i wanted to be lazy
i know i could write a thing to do the thing

@IvenBach I should've explicitly marked that as cynicism, shouldn't I?

I stand by my statement.

2:54 PM
i guess i could write a thing that sees if a query is referenced by any other querdef's cept its own
then have a thing check all of the report sources, then check all of the form code

you could look at Access Dependency Checker

i dont think that would resolve if i use it in modules

@IvenBach I'm missing any facial clues that could tell me what subtext this contains...

well form behind modules
but then again, that will at least give me the low hanging fruit there

i think it does parse code but not perfectly. It's the closest to the best thing
(that's an opportunity for Rubberduck to eat the lunch... but then OTOH, that's going beyond the scope of being just a VBE add-in)

2:57 PM
thats true
@this it looks like it can only see stuff that are control sources

I have used it and I seem to remember it does parse code (but in limited fashion)

it probably would only go one layer deep

again, it's not perfect but at least you can pick off hte low-hanging fruits, then concentrate on harder cases.

code directly on hte form

yes, that's true.
it won't follow the assignments

3:00 PM
a lot of my code for this particular project is sitting on a module
vs in the behind
well, directly in the behind
most of the forms have 5 buttons that do something, then each of those buttons is a single line call
and only one of those calls is really anything substantial

3:57 PM
@Vogel612 My childhood kids "Swimming pool" is a wheel barrow filled with water. There's plenty of other examples that go along with it.
I my old mans defense he kept the barrows clean and there wasn't any concrete in the interior to scratch me.

"chose to be born poor" wasn't intended to be taken literally...

I'm still not quite following. I was being cynical about the workings of economically masked segregation in america and the justifications that rich people actually contort their mind into believing to get out of a guilty conscience.

fwiw my childhood's "swimming pool" was... the garden hose

we had one of these giant conches and were lucky enough to have a public pool direcly adjacent to my elementary school...

@Vogel612 I miss some subtleties. I miss the obvious often. Let me re-read chat when I get a break.

so... for the record: I don't believe people choose to be born poor. Anyone who seriously believes that or even uses it as justification to make people suffer (or absolve themselves of their conscience) is an asshole.

ugh, Rubberduck.CodeAnalysis/Rubberduck.CodeAnalysis.xml is causing conflicts.. should it be added to .gitignore, since we now only need it as a build asset?

actually it should probably be removed from the working tree

if I delete it from [next] and add it to .gitignore, syncing next into @IvenBach's branch will fix the conflict, right?

4:11 PM
yea, it should

wait no, it's not even the /docs file
wth where's Rubberduck.CodeAnalysis/Rubberduck.CodeAnalysis.xml??

root directory?

@Vogel612 not seeing it

I may have deleted that one already

4:22 PM
I've changed .gitignore to ignore Rubberduck.CodeAnalysis.xml regardless of its path

Merge pull request #5014 from rubberduck-vba/retailcoder-patch-1

@Duga sh, cancelled, not failed

@Vogel612 Missed the context first time around. Now I'm understanding.

wtf
C:\projects\rubberduck\Rubberduck.Deployment\InnoSetup\\Graphics\Rubberduck.Duck.164x314.bmp,
where did these double backslashes come from??

@MathieuGuindon @Vogel612 already deleted the XML file and added it to the gitignore. I had merge conflicts as well when I pulled in his changes because I had added an inspection.

4:54 PM
@MathieuGuindon probably a mismatch in the path setup somewhere in the toolchain

should be harmless, generally, I think

I don't understand how merging #5012 broke that

5:09 PM
@this I put it back up for a bit, same credentials.
I don't have a non-aggregated widget up ATM, but it basically looks the same.

@KySoto ^ found out the power of poop too.

@IvenBach just because you can...

mumble mumble.

see, that's the problem with emoji. Too much room for interpretation. I read those in the middle panel as "cow fire". I had to re-read the whole thing to realize it was supposed to be "Angus King".

@IvenBach That's what you get for fixing "J" in your email. ;-)

@FreeMan That's an obvious crown :P

5:37 PM
@this Don't recognize this reference.

@IvenBach reference

@Hosch250 ah, but the rainbow-bright colors could be from the chemicals in a variety of plastics burning.

> > A side-effect of this, is that annotated descriptions will start showing up in the Code Explorer and the context/selection toolbar even when there's no corresponding `VB_Description` attribute - for all module types, not just document modules.

To me that sounds more like a feature than a bug. Is there any reason this behavior would be undesirable?
[rubberduck-vba/Rubberduck] build for commit 4f387a27 on next: AppVeyor build failed
BUILD FAILURE!
> Not all side-effects are undesirable! :smiley:

@Duga @this any idea what happened here? where did that backslash suddenly pop out from?

sorry I'm confused. I thought that was an existing thing

5:48 PM
...IDK, AV builds started failing a few hours ago, starting with when I merged 5012 (German translations), ..which had a rather innocuous diff.

have to look at it later

@this I've usually just seen a box. Didn't know J was a thing. #TIL

7:11 PM
we have a user here at work... his abbreviation for his username is... cli

7:41 PM
^ better than "GUI"

7:52 PM
lol
though... not as bad as the user with the username staber

this reminded me of a company email. The company used first initial and last name @ company.com. Employee's name was like Amanda Slicker.
aslicker@company.com - not very flattering

Brian Itch also agrees

hahah that's a good one

LOL, my company has a guy who's email was a synonym for "dick".
They put his middle initial in there to fix it.

Peter Enis?

8:11 PM
Nope.
P. Ecker.

Oh, of course! Good ol' Woody!

@Hosch250 his parents weren't the brightest bulbs or what?

/shrug

Thinking about it more, I'm not sure if pecker had the same connotation it has decades ago.
Kind like how old men today are "Dick" - I hope nobody decide to call their newborn son "Dick" today.... right?

8:32 PM
Never understood naming a child Dick. Makes no sense. Not now, not previously IMO.

it was supposed to be a nickname for Richard
I don't think parents back then actually called their son Dick
only their friends. But then again, I wasn't even born so what do I know

Old people weren’t thinking straight even before they got old.
^^

lol
i would wager it had to do more with Richard Nixon AKA "Tricky Dick"

Be glad you don’t have the given birth name of “Nitro”. I kid you not. A distant cousin of mine named their child that way.

i knew parents who called their kid "Wolverine"

8:36 PM
Hell. Even kids can claim nowadays “why would you post that in the net? Everyone knows it’s never forgotten”.
@this nickname or given birth certificate name?

the little Khaleesi's and Arya's must be entering preschool now, I suppose.

@IvenBach on his birth certificate.
poor kid.

W. O. W.

yeah, they weren't really equipped to be parents....

What tipped you off?

8:39 PM
lol. trust me, that was long before they told me the name.

@MathieuGuindon this one chick i know named her kid Khaleesi... she moved far far away, dont know where.

I'm glad I have an uncommon name.
For one, people tend to get it moderately close.
And for two, I don't jump every time someone's talking about something else.
One girl I knew got herself a pair of twins. The one the dad named pulled the "majik" straw.
Pronounced "magic".

in ~20 years there's going to be a wave of parenticide in the USA
all the idiots that thought giving their kids funny names was a good prank idea

uh.... and 3rd world don't count?

hm, thinking it's a 1st world problem
/assuming

8:54 PM
Inventing names is actually most common among the black community here.
Personally, I find it funny.

"North West" haha
I'm that kid, I apply for a new legal name as soon as I can

I mean, back bc days, they'd get named "river" and stuff in the local languages.
We're back to that.

eh, that's not too bad
what's bad is Mr. Burger naming their kid "Cheese"

I'm not going to do it, but I find some of the newer names interesting at least.
@MathieuGuindon But, the puns!
River Birch :D

gosh, is this where "dad joke" came from?

8:56 PM
Maybe :D

@MathieuGuindon nah, there are many many who call their kids after US stars like Michael Jackson or Madonna and so forth. There was a website for that, I think.

facepalm

but it's worse because it'll be in mixture of their native name
stuff like Gustavo Michael Jackson Tortuga or something like that
that doesn't really happen within US, at least. We just go for badly speeled names that nobody else can pronounce

FWIW, you're sitting here talking to this :D

lol
thanks, Mr.250

8:59 PM
I mean, for all the unique names, I think that takes the cake :D

wait, this, or that?
/fail

:D

i really really pity the poor kid who has this on the birth certificate
ooo, ooo, if there's twin, this and that
"So, I took this and that to a baseball game. This hit home runs and that threw a no-hitter."
@Hosch250 but I think you can go further.
"Don't eat veggies! Don't be nice to your sister! Don't go to the bedroom and do your homework!"

9:17 PM
@this Ha, negatives are fun.

is SO user "Will" still "Won't" on MSE?
I always found that one funny

2 hours later…
11:03 PM
@Vogel612 Thanks for all your git teaching you've given me. The building blocks are starting to snap together now.

11:27 PM
@IvenBach Was that you that set up dark theme on my site?
Much better now :)

Jul 28 '18 at 0:18, by Mathieu Guindon
> Embrace the darkness
Maybe... Although Mug is suspicious too.

Still some things to tweak (site map in particular). GTG now.

I've become so enamored with darkreader.org recently. Vader was on to something going to the dark side.
