I've got my ForEach Loop set up in my SSIS package. I've got an Execute SQL Task running a query and supplying a list of rows to the ForEach. It's assigning all the columns to variables per the instructions I followed here.
When I adjusted the connection in my flat file connection manager to use one of the variables, I'm getting this error:

You can see here that it's been cleared in the Connection Manager configuration.
However, I have the ConnectionString expression set in the Properties of the Connection Manager as shown here.
Have I totally missed something, or will the red X on the Flat File Source magically "go away" when the package executes and @[User::CompletePath] is populated with a valid value?
Note that the connection manager had a valid file name in it when I initially set it up, but it was set to "" when I edited the ConnectionString property - I didn't manually change it.

Oh, as an added bonus - that red arrow in the last picture is the divider between the Solution Explorer and the Properties windows, both of which are in their default docked position on the right side of the VS window. It it possible to adjust that divider to make one or the other taller?
I can't find the correct spot in my attempts to hover...
(i.e. the cursor never changes shape to indicate "drag here!")

if you figure out anything simpler than setting up a SQL Server Agent job involving an SSIS Package Execution proxy user, a stored procedure in msdb that starts the job, and a stored procedure in a DB the VBA code can access & run... let me know, I'm interested :)

If those are expressions they have to be deferred because by default SSIS eagerly validates everything, which it cannot.
I think you can do this at package level, too. I honestly can't remember if I disabled it at the task step or at package level.

I wonder if we can keep DelayValidation to true but only set ValidateExternalMetadata to false
That'd allow you to get compile-time validation of flow but not the validation of the format itself since you can't do it anymore if the file path is now an expression.
As an alternative, you could consider having a default value for the expression but it's a dicey proposition because if it is allowed to run and doesn't change the value to the desired expression, it might end up taking the default file used for testing and put it in production. That's not fun. :)

An alternative I can think of is to use a one-row ADODB recordset
which is questionable since the fields would be just Object/Variant
and you'd still have to do casting one way or other.

While clustering on an identity is a good default it's not always the best choice.
if you have a table that heavily depends on say, IncidentDate column, and they don't correspond to the order of insertions, then clustering on the IncidentDate while keeping the identity as the primary key may mean better query performance for those that depends on the IncidentDate
But for most tables, the querying patterns aren't as clean-cut, so it's hard to pick a good column to cluster on, so hence why identity is a good default.

I think this `@CustomAnnotationForNonDuckyPurposes` warrants making `IllegalAnnotation` inspection simply ignore any annotation that isn't recognized as a RD annotation - note that this is different than the linked issue, where this was a parser-level issue.

@IvenBach Oh, BTW, you can fix this by shoving a couple of 16d nails into the meter base to short out connect the mount points.
^ NOT highly recommended, though, unless the power company has shut you off for failing to pay your bill but you still need your satellite TV.
