@M.Doerner Yes, there are ways to get the correct logger, and I imagine CW supports them.
There are methods where you can provide a func to get the correct implementation for a request.
It's slightly slower, since it gets called every time you request it. However, if you aren't continuously spamming it (in a tight loop, say), it isn't really noticeable.
@IvenBach Time to follow up with that interview.

3:13 AM
> @MDoerner loggers can be named anything - if CW can setup the logger name to match the name of the class it's injected into, then it can work. Or the logger name can be hard-coded, but then we would lose the ability to configure per-namespace logger targets (which we're not using afaik)

@Hosch250 internal coworker didn’t want to take it? Or wasn’t chosen?

5:34 AM
@Duga Just to clarify the concerns about getting the right logger: you would need the type of the object to be created before creating the object. Still, I think there is some way CW supports this.
Anyway, I think we should not property inject loggers anyway Becca use of the first concern.

Fwiw I think ComIntern suggested to create a base class that has logger and put it at the bottom of all type hierarchies that needs logging, so no injection is needed
The real concern is the fact that we are initializing the logger in inconsistent ways. I think I saw at least three different ways of initializing it? Sometimes we create it inside the body of ctor, other times via ctor arguments. But since those all come static methods for getting a logger, it makes more sense to encapsulate the logger into a base class and cut out the implementation from classes, and get more uniform behavior that way.

Q: Using predeclared classes in VBA as namespaces

Jonas GlesaaenOne of my biggest issues with coding in VBA is a total lack of namespaces making it difficult to ensure things like scoping and selecting the right function when every function of the same name is in the global namcespace. I know you can prefix your function calls with the module name it is in, b...

@Duga getting a bit of clear space between us and the "other project". long may it continue!

12:13 PM
One more reason PPT sucks: you cannot lock an element in place to prevent it from being moved/edited. sigh...

12:48 PM
@IvenBach They turned it down.
#Fun at work. Changed my password and now my computer won't let me log in.
Also, edit is broken in mobile chat.

@Hosch250 ha!
@Hosch250 "mobile chat". Is that just opening chat.stackexchange.com/... in a mobile web browser?

yes

1:09 PM
Ugh. Still nobody in that can reset my password.
I've been in since 7:30...

1:21 PM
stops laughing @Hosch250

1:49 PM
Ugh.
So, IT reset my password.
I'm in now.
And NOW I BLOODY WELL CAN'T CHANGE MY PASSWORD!
It says "password doesn't meet the length, history, or complexity requirements.
It's a bloody new password--I tried like 10 different passwords.
They are all longer than 8 characters (the limit).
They all have upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
Those are the requirements I've been given.
Just screw off, AD, and let me change my password, mmkay???

2:35 PM
OK, IT got that resolved finally too.
All my passwords are changed now.
(I change the passwords to all my work-related accounts on the same day--keeps things easier, instead of changing them all on different cycles.)

[rubberduck-vba/Rubberduck] SmileyFtW project card. Enough said.

@Hosch250 Remember to breathe.

@IvenBach I haven't suffocated yet.
Things sorta settled down.
Just dealing with a couple bugs.

@Hosch250 I'll send a followup tonight.

1 hour later…

@Duga yeah, but RD fixes so many other things that are broken in the VBE...

Somehow a co-worker had his workbook hide the view window, IE activewindow.Visible = False.
When he opened it up a blank grey nothing was staring at him. No clue how that came about.

o.O not sure how to take that statement...

@Hosch250 I will neither deny nor confirm this statement #nda

LOL.

that's... easily misread

Same thought...

Intentional ambiguous wording. :wink:

@MathieuGuindon BTW, you should start a business providing C# training.
You've successfully taught at least three people, not including yourself.

@MathieuGuindon ^ You have my recommendation already.

Mine too, and probably Chris's :)

is there a property for VBComponent that tells you if it is protected?
or is that under VBProject

8:31 PM
@KySoto project level, yes

interesting.
i just found some funky behavior
with application.vbe.activevbproject
i have this function that checks for modules
well checks to see if a given module is in the project by iterating through the modules in the activeproject
i had it complain about an add-in that was active's module
though realistically i probably could just change the find on the function to use OERN instead
Question though, is there a best way to figure out which VBProject is the one that belongs to the application?
so i never actually query add-in projects with my module management
oh. theres a filename -_-

9:07 PM
for Access, you want Application.WizHook.dbVbcProject (or something like that)
google it

9:24 PM
In Excel, you can just use ThisworkBook.VBProject once you have the reference to the extensibility library.

wizhook.
@this Found a PDF that says that returns the current vbProject
interestingly enough when i try to do
?application.WizHook.DbcVbProject.Name
i get error 91

9:47 PM
ahhh... i needed to set the key
well it looks like the wizhook thing may not be necessary
? (application.WizHook.DbcVbProject is application.VBE.ActiveVBProject)
True

Is your active project currently different from the one of the main database?

there are currently 3 projects available
2 of them are add-ins

Is the active one currently one of the add-ins?

is the main accdb file's project always going to be project 1?

I have no idea.

9:54 PM
i have a function that checks the ActiveVBProject

My point is that your test in the immediate window will only really test something, if one of the add-ins is active atm.

Public Function CheckForModule(ByVal argModule As String) As Long
    If Not BasicInclude.DebugMode Then On Error GoTo Error_Handler Else On Error GoTo 0
    Dim v As Variant
    Dim out As Long: out = 0

    For Each v In Application.VBE.ActiveVBProject.VBComponents
        If v.Name = argModule Then
            out = 1
        End If
    Next

Error_Exit:
    CheckForModule = out
    Exit Function
Error_Handler:

    StandardErrorBox "CheckForModule", Err
    Resume Error_Exit
End Function
it had an error pop up when it hit one of the add-in modules
since they are protected

ActiveVBProject isn't necessarily the VBA project of the current open Access application
If it's hitting add-in module, then ActiveVBProject isn't the one you want.

yeah, thats why i am trying to determine which vbproject is the one that is with the application

That is why you use WizHook.DbcVbProject

9:56 PM
yeah, i didnt know it would hit the add-in projects when i first made the function a couple years ago
mostly because i didnt have any installed

At runtime, you actually have no guarantee which project is active at a given time.

true.
wow thats a bit tinier then i expected.
anyway, that just says it gets the current project
meh. i was hoping there was an easier way of determining that im on the application im running's vbproject than comparing file names

Oh, the name conflict check of the rename refactoring is broken for properties.
It does not pick up name conflicts with the RHS parameter of the Let and Set when renaming the Get.

i guess its not really THAT important since the only people who use hte addon's are programmers, and the only time the CheckForModule procedure is run, is by a programmer when its ensuring a pre-defined list of table definitions and query definitions are created

that and its just checking to see if the automatic emailing module is present to add a table that exists for logging emailing errors.

So, I would appreciate any feedback.

I will leave this PR as a draft until we actually realease so that nobody merges it by accident.
> As mentioned in #4852.

After the first parse, the Code Explorer doesn't have any node selected. The use must click on a node before various options (for example, Add Module) have enabled options. This is suboptimal for usability. Once a node has been selected, it's impossible for the CE to node have a selected node, except if all projects are closed.

We should ensure that, where at least one project is loaded, the CE always has a selected node. Hence when refreshing the CE:
- If no node
