so, without 64 bit versions of those, I need to find a way to sort the entry point. the regsvr stuff, as you say, is unessential.
when I try and reference the dll, it just ignores me. I browse for it, click OK, and nothing happens.

hmm
you still have 32-bit Office handy?

RELOAD!

heh, I uninstalled it. stupidly as it turns out, as I put 64 bit in a VM

@this not sure what you mean by "use"?

[Zomis/minesweeper-flags-client] 8 commits. 207 additions. 132 deletions.

The reason why I ask is because I'm wanting to rule out whether when you add a reference to the ODE-generated DLL, it automatically registers it via regsvr32 as an effect.

#ProTip: Maybe try and not talk over Duga at UTC midnight....

lol
@this how to test?

12:05 AM
oh just create a new ODE dll, verify that it's not registered (e.g. no entries in the registry), then add a reference to the ODE dll from any VBA project, then check the registry after.
that has to be tested in 32-bit, though.

ok, lemme check

this would presume the VB6 IDE and the VBA IDE has same behavior WRT adding references.

s'ok I still have ODE 2000 in a VM

hmm but then again, I know that for my C# assembly, I didn't write any RegisterServer function and yet I can reference it without trouble; I just need to reference the type library, even though the registry entries can be missing.

yeah tbh i'm like 90% it won't reg it
If you say that COM needs a special entry point, I think that's likely the problem
I wonder if VBIDE.AddReference would give any clues
thing is... OLEWOO shows this:
[
  uuid(f684ccab-b979-4516-96f1-954f6582741b)
]
coclass UserForm1 {
	[default] interface _UserForm1#i;
};

12:13 AM
@M.Doerner Oh, a new settings? Fine :)

I know that the FM20 it used was 64 bit, as I watched it open the file in procmon

It is actually a rather old setting.

On another note. These strings will not be translated?

@SonGokussj4 they're class names
Should probably be using the InspectionNames keys though

Well, shouldn't we have localized names there?

12:22 AM
I think, if you want another language, these should be localized too. Will help with understanding what the inspection "class" is about.

@mansellan and what does it shows for the interface _UserForm1#i

@this wait...
That's my dll, referenced in 64-bit Office.
3

O_O

uh, yeah

so what was it we needed then?
oh, don't forget the real litmus test --- actually running the code. :D

12:24 AM
no idea, i did it through the immediate window, and it worked.

hmm. might be the UI that's buggy.

@this heh, I didn't actually add any methods :-(
userform1.show should do though

(or immediate window might just not do the same amount of checking as the dialog does)

@mansellan you need to blog about this!

@MathieuGuindon shouldn't we enable RDE first, though? ;-)

12:26 AM
..and try to make a x64 build off the original smart indenter code!
(just for kicks)
@this RDE?

Rubberduck Developer Edition

betcha that a lot of addin authors would use RD just for that

@MathieuGuindon yes
not a good sign...

curious that it shows %1

12:29 AM
yeah...
OK so reality check - possibly all I've done is build a 32-bit dll, hex-edited it to make it look 64-bit, and managed to get Office to accept it as a reference. But I can't see why Office 64 would / could have built a 32-bit obj file...
like I say, this is lower than I'm used to...

do you know for a fact that he compiler and linker used are in fact 64-bit?

@mansellan quite fun regardless

compiler yes (I think?) - given that it's the 64-bit Office, it must be the 64-bit compiler no? the linker is definitely not 64-bit aware, its it ODE one atm, which predates MSVC 64.
So I can still try using a later MSVC linker
@MathieuGuindon very!

i don't know how it all works but if compiler and linker are just an executable file, then Office being 64-bit won't mean it's the correct bitness, too.

but not today... it's getting late. @this, if you're interested in hacking this, I can send you my copy of ODE 2000. My XP showed up - I've not installed it yet but I suspect its pretty much identical. I don't really need 2 copies.

12:37 AM
but if compiler is built-in (the VBA compiler?) then yeah, it must match

I would love that! TBH not sure I'll get to look at this in details until I get back from summit (and I have that little bet w/ Mat....)
Unless Comintern wants it and he's better at low level stuff than I am, I can make use of it.

sure nw, would be happy to, for either. mansellan (at) gmail (dot) com.

@Comintern ^

Is it really a good idea to have the ExtractInterfaceCommand activated in document modules?

12:46 AM
for Excel, probably not. But I have no problem using interfaces on Access forms.

Ah, OK.
Btw, the test that it would not work in procedural modules was borked.

Whether it's a good idea to extract an interface from an existing Access form, I'm not sure; never tried to do that.

It was actually enabled there.
After refactoring the test using Selection.Home instead of default as selection, it failed.

@MathieuGuindon I don't have a blog of my own, want me to submit something for the RD blog?

1:01 AM
BTW I just checked - it does not look very useful to do an Extract Interface on an Access form.
Main reason is that in vast majority of the cases, methods will be private. The refactoring will only consider public methods.
If I'm going to extract an interface, I probably actually want to extract private methods (and convert them to the interface method in the process)

1:21 AM
@mansellan if it ends up working and you want to share it, sure!

@MathieuGuindon ok, happy to :-)
this is like 7 steps further than I thought it would get already. Starting to think that MS left enough un-nerfed for this to happen...
I really need to find someone (cough, comintern) to disassemble the dll and establish whether the addresses really are 64 bit...
it could still all be illusion
Oh, and if "hey btw, you can now write 64-bit VB6, kthxbai" doesn't get noticed, nothing will!

1:39 AM
^
BTW, does anyone have a good legitimate case for using Me!xxx. I think it should never ever exist, right?

crickets
ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets!Sheet1 isn't one of them

that's just.... wrong.
I kinda sorta may have found one reason to use Me!..., though.
It's so that you can make the VBE stop throwing compile errors for nonexistent controls in dead code!!!! I AM H@XOR!!1!!
There's this magical key named Delete, genius.

1:58 AM
Yay, defer all the errors to runtime!

IKR?
the previous clown really love his dead code.
there's what? 20-30 dead event handlers
and that's just one form

@this should we make it list private methods and turn them public (excluding handlers)?
nah

2:13 AM
I doubt it. my use case is more typically to ensure that for a given form, it has certain methods/properties. I don't want to actually access the form directly
So it's enough to be able to just convert the private methods into interface implementation for me.
BTW, am I alone in thinking that's a bit funky:
Implements Something

Public Sub Foo()
  ISomething_Bar()
End Sub

Private Sub ISomething_Bar()
End Sub
I typically do something more like this:
Implement ISomething

Private That As ISomething

Private Sub Class_Initialize()
  Set That = Me
End Sub

Public Sub Foo()
  That.Bar
End Sub

Private Sub ISomething_Bar()
End Sub

If you know Visual Basic 6 very well and you're in or around NYC, let me know. There's a finance company that could hire you and pay you for some new work in 2019! Not a joke.

> That always almost happens to me. Though there will also be times that RD will open maximized. I don't think it has anything to do with MZ-Tools. I've always had that tool installed. RD still opens, sometimes maximized and sometimes with that small window. Never tried manually resizing it though.

@Duga doesn't mean I didn't break the resource.. can someone download the artifact and confirm whether the splash shows up correctly? I'll only be able to do that much, much later today
wonders how long cloning RD can be over plane wifi
I might have downloaded & installed VS2017 CE onto my work laptop

@Vogel612 had it with some bratwurst and mustard.

@IvenBach yeap

@IvenBach That's the best way to have it

:shudder: I must not have the palate for it then. Was not pleasant at all. Tried drowning it with mustard. Did not help.

Do you like cabbage?
Do you like vinegar?

4:07 PM
Cabbage not really. Vinegar as part of dishes yes.
Pickles I can do even though cucumbers are ho hum imo

what about kim chi?

The only Kim chi I ever had was no bueno. I tried not thinking about that going for sauerkraut brats.

Sounds like you just don't like sauerkraut (which is a blasphemy I will forgive)

Whew

4:29 PM
Mmmmmm.... Bratwurst. I prefer Bockwurst, but both are yummy.

@IvenBach I really do not like Sauerkraut, too.

Attempting system reboot.
Whew... That seems to have fixed it. I'll try that with work box. Maybe it'll solve my build problem there too.

Wait, you have not rebooted your system at work for more than three months?

No. I reboot usually every other day at work.

6:37 PM
@Vogel612 Do you plan to contribute the German translations for the release or should I add them tomorrow?

@IvenBach exactly what was the error and what was the fix?

7:06 PM
@rubberduckvba @shanselman OMG. THANK YOU for all the hard work you've done on this plugin for years. You literally saved my sanity in a past life. Thank You!
