The reason why I ask is because I'm wanting to rule out whether when you add a reference to the ODE-generated DLL, it automatically registers it via regsvr32 as an effect.

oh just create a new ODE dll, verify that it's not registered (e.g. no entries in the registry), then add a reference to the ODE dll from any VBA project, then check the registry after.

that has to be tested in 32-bit, though.

hmm but then again, I know that for my C# assembly, I didn't write any RegisterServer function and yet I can reference it without trouble; I just need to reference the type library, even though the registry entries can be missing.

OK so reality check - possibly all I've done is build a 32-bit dll, hex-edited it to make it look 64-bit, and managed to get Office to accept it as a reference. But I can't see why Office 64 would / could have built a 32-bit obj file...

like I say, this is lower than I'm used to...

compiler yes (I think?) - given that it's the 64-bit Office, it must be the 64-bit compiler no? the linker is definitely not 64-bit aware, its it ODE one atm, which predates MSVC 64.

So I can still try using a later MSVC linker

i don't know how it all works but if compiler and linker are just an executable file, then Office being 64-bit won't mean it's the correct bitness, too.

for Excel, probably not. But I have no problem using interfaces on Access forms.

Whether it's a good idea to extract an interface from an existing Access form, I'm not sure; never tried to do that.

BTW I just checked - it does not look very useful to do an Extract Interface on an Access form.

Main reason is that in vast majority of the cases, methods will be private. The refactoring will only consider public methods.

If I'm going to extract an interface, I probably actually want to extract private methods (and convert them to the interface method in the process)

I doubt it. my use case is more typically to ensure that for a given form, it has certain methods/properties. I don't want to actually access the form directly

So it's enough to be able to just convert the private methods into interface implementation for me.

BTW, am I alone in thinking that's a bit funky:
