"Go to definition" was not implemented in Rubberduck, mainly because the functionality is already present in the VBE (<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>F2</kbd>), but that wasn't taking mouse-based navigation into account... and then there's the technical aspect, too: the VBE's code panes aren't ours, and the IDE is hardly telling us anything about what's going on in there.

> retailcoder,

Thanks for a timely reply.

CTRL + Click is perhaps a better option. However, I didn't even know this jump (SHIFT + F2) was even possible until you mentioned it, which makes this post entirely worth posting! I'm glad you mentioned that. My life should be easier now...

A mouse based solution would definitely be more intuitive and really look forward to that feature if you guys do end up going down that path.

Thanks again, keep up the great work.

@this Is that anything like Let's Kill Hitler?
@mansellan that would be awesome to have documented somewhere. However, I'm in no rush to dive into it, so take your time.

@mansellan #NoteToSelf: netFX ≠ Netflix
@Duga Here's a note that .5356 was built, but I don't see it on the releases page. Is that because of the build failure on the next line?

> I'm confused by how you "could simulate SHIFT + F2 to another key in Windows to jump faster". Would hitting `F2` be "faster" than `Shift-F2`? Is that what you're after? (Note, remapping `Shift-F2` to just `F2` would be bad, since `F2` is already used to bring up the Object Browser.)

Once you get used to using `Shift-F2` is becomes very quick and natural, and you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

As a follow up note, if `Shift-F2` takes you to a different code pane (another mo

What's the recommended procedure for source controlling database changes? For example, I need to add/update/delete configuration table changes, or alter a table, add an index, or otherwise?
These are all 1-time things, and sometimes, I struggle to remember to execute the appropriate update scripts (I do tend to write them all in SQL, not just edit tables live).
I write/make the changes in the Dev database, but need to remember to execute the procedures in the Prod db when the code gets migrated.
More than a couple of production failures because something's been forgotten.

> We'd really love for you to be able to use Rubberduck, too! Having a copy of Rubberduck's log file would be extremely helpful in helping us identify the issue - it could be a compile error in your code, or there could be an issue with the duck.

To that end, please look at the **Logfile** section of your original post to see the instructions on how to upload the log - i.e., ensure that logging is on and that it's set to TRACE. Recreate the problem, then _edit_ your original post to include t

@this huh why?!

@MathieuGuindon Ask Microsoft....
(or maybe just ask the Werd team)
@BigBen That's why there's a thing called "cluestick"

6:04 PM
Somewhere around the middle of "Cool Space Beeps" time, the Motorola StarTac came out. Vibrate mode on that thing, when left sitting on a conference table, was far louder than any ringtone it could produce.

this is very creepy. I just sent the support an email on a old email chain from months ago to follow up on a feature request. Within a minute, I get a new email back "how am I doing?" from the last person I "spoke' 4-5 months ago...

been toying with ScriptLab... it does "wrap selection" when auto-completing self-closing pairs, and now I'm wondering...

@BigBen Excuse me, sir, but imaginary numbers are very real. Otherwise, we wouldn't have AC electricity, which internet runs on!

lol

I didn't they were "real numbers", only "very real". ;-)

@ticker the amount of people expecting to be able to get telepathic help is astounding.
searches VBA toolbox... nope, no crystal ball palantir

That's how you know your help desk is good - they call you with the answer before you even have the question.
@MathieuGuindon DDGs... interesting set of results.

Your own statement proves you're telepathic. Congrats on answering all those future questions.

@IvenBach I... wait, what?

You're already providing answers to questions they will have before they even post on SO.
Your next task is to get MS to start shipping Office with RD pre-installed.

not attending summit this year unfortunately.. we'll see how renewal goes this summer, and then I'll make a big push at summit 2021!

I saw a clip of a gunsmith who specializes in decorative engraving of guns. He's 70 something and he said "I'm just an amateur"... that's in spite of having a waiting list of clients willing to pay thousands, even tens thousands) for his work.

@MathieuGuindon Cascading Sheet Storms

Side note, consider keeping named arguments together on the same line. SomeArg:={expression} should be all together, not SomeArg:= _ and then the actual argument value/expression on another line. (or worse, SomeArg _ and then :=value on another line) — Mathieu Guindon 56 secs ago
do we have an inspection for that?

that's a big oof from me dawg

oof?
as in petty nitpicking?

10:34 PM
yeah, like when you get punched in the gut you say 'oof'
nah lol
i was agreeing with you

ah!
I must be pronouncing "oof" differently :)

i was just oofing at people who put the expression on different lines as the argument name
maybe, i mean you're canadian ;)

oh, macro recorder does it, and then people don't care to fix it

oh i didn't know that

macro recorder LOVES to split named arguments for no reason at all :)
(esp. w/Range.Find & similar member calls with lots of args)

10:45 PM
not just macro recorder, though. Several VB6 & VBA documentation & sample has very strange way of splitting lines
It really gets my goat.

it's literally the first thing I braindeadly fix whenever I'm looking at macro-recorder code
been debugging a t-sql script all day. still hitting duplicate key issues. how did this logic ever worked before is beyond me.

11:07 PM
@SmileyFtW watch out for these:
currStatusBarMgr.PostStatusBarUpdate (currDivAControlName)
that's evaluating currDivAControlName and passing the result of that expression evaluation to the procedure
likely harmless here, but just keep that in mind
currStatusBarMgr.PostStatusBarUpdate currDivAControlName
^ fix

Duck check: Should RD auto parse always when a second workbook opens?
My apparent MVCE is 1st workbook (has invalid code syntax - class that doesn't exist is referenced) opens without issue. No parse is invoked and RD doesn't display. When opening a second (also contains this same issue) workbook I'm getting a compilation error notice.

We listen for projects being added/removed to/from the IDE, to trigger a parse, yes.

But at present a parse isn't guaranteed to always occur when the first workbook is opened?

the only thing forcing an initial parse guarantees, is access violations and hard crash at startup =)
RD is loaded & ready before the VBE is
nothing we can do about it

> RD can't help you. Please compile your code before we can assist.

same with VBE unloading add-ins when you are prompted to save changes on exit and then cancel: it's just the way it is
@IvenBach actually what I'm consistently seeing is an automatic parse if the host document is an empty/new/unsaved workbook, and manual first parse otherwise
that's in Excel though
other hosts might startup differently
(looking at you, can't-be-unsaved-Access)
