apparently "exound" is not a word meaning "gift" (or anything else for that matter) but clearly it should be

2:49 AM
Wait, I think you're close
But same as bobble right now oops
never mind, I'm still lost... back to square one

@Sciborg did you do the required actions to claim your bunny picture?

I went on-site and had to do a lot of social interactions today, can I have another day? ;-;

what is the likelihood you ask for another day tomorrow?

What if all along the clue was actually a ddef and the answer is both a "gift given by revolutionary Greek" and a "character during short flight from Egypt"
Kidding

6:19 AM
@Sid just looked at this, wow... those are not easy words
is there supposed to be some sort of final step? there's an arrow forming that points towards the top-left corner, at least

6:31 AM
i want the "short flight from egypt" in the c4 to be Ex. or Exod. which are abbreviations for Exodus but can't make it work

Same

Sid
@Jafe Check the first letter of each answer in the grid starting from the top.

aaa now i get it, that's really impressive
i thought it was an arrow shape pointing somewhere but the numbers just happened to be placed like that
i imagine that having taken a couple of attempts to pull off :P

7:24 AM
@oAlt horse ddef
darn, the enumeration
Ooh, equine.
@Jafe That wouldn't be a good definition. "Ex" is short for the title of the book that describes the flight; the flight itself, the exodus, doesn't afaik have its name abbreviated.

good point

8:19 AM
Thanks. I want the definition to be either "Gift" (BESTOW, perhaps) or "character…" (DATHAN, perhaps). I can't seem to get anything to work.

8:30 AM
"revolutionary greek character" i suspect is a greek letter written backwards

8:40 AM
Fair warning about the CCCC as we approach the 12-hour mark: It is most definitely an obscure word. (And three remarks made so far are correct...)
IMHO I think it's the hardest clue I've ever devised, I am fully aware it will displease some people, but I think it can all be justified :)
@oAlt And I love this - completely unintended though!

Hahah

(I did try to make it a ddef at one point - I think it should be possible for this word - but I had to give up on that in the name of sleep...)
CORRECTION: Not ddef - &lit

1. "short flight from Egypt" means EX or EXOD
2. Statement 1 is false
3. Definition is "Gift"
4. Definition is "character during..."
5. "revolutionary Greek character" means "a Greek letter name reversed"
Not sure if I missed other statements...
Though I'm not sure what Jafe meant by the last statement; if he meant "the actual symbol for the Greek letter, reversed" then that's a bit naughty, lol

if 3 of those are correct then #5 must be correct because only one of 1&2 and one of 3&4 can be true :)

Oh that is correct, hahah

9:19 AM
maybe short flight from egypt is AMC or another airline abbreviation?

sorry to hear that, hope you get better soon

Nah, nah, it's fine but thx
Hmm, Stiv did say that the word is obscure, so Statement 4 could be false because "obscure" applies more to a common noun rather than a proper noun...?
Idk

Q: A small riddle, easy but distant

AmozRunt of the litter, I was cast from the family. They called me cold and distant but I do have a heart. Many fear me although I have brought laughter and wealth. You do not want to be where I dwell... And yet you are already in me.

CCCC hint: The last letter is 'M'.

I'm going insane. Does anyone know if there is a way to force i.stack.imgur to accept a .png without converting it to a .jpg? I need lossless compression and I can't use GIF because I need more than 256 colors....
Should've thought about that before starting to make a [steganography] puzzle :)

6:35 PM
Ouch.
It used to be the case -- I don't know whether it still is -- that if your image is small enough imgur will compress it losslessly.

i didn't think it automatically converted like that?

The threshold was 1MB unless you paid them for an account in which case it was 5MB
But that was years ago and their policies may have changed since then.

Ah, yes, you're right. When I try it with an image <1MB it works. Thanks!

Their website now says: "The maximum file size for non-animated images (think JPG, PNG, etc) is 20MB. PNG files over 5MB will be converted to JPEGs."
So you can probably get away with up to 5MB before enforced compression sets in.

Interesting. The StackExchange uploader still seems to compress everything over 1MB, (and only allows up to 2MB, of course)

6:46 PM
ah, no, I take it back. I mean, their website does say that, but it also says this: "Non-animated images over 1MB for anonymous uploads and 5MB for account holders will be lossily compressed."

Q: The teacher's favorite animal

Lukas RotterA student asked our teacher about her favorite type of dog during a distance learning meeting. She uploaded the image shown below, said it's our homework to figure that out, and left the call. What's her favorite type of dog? In case it's not obvious, the two-sentence "story" is made up.
