Q: Painting a grid with 3 colours such that there are no right-angled triangles of one colour

Dmitry KamenetskyWhat is the largest rectangular grid (by area) that can be painted with 3 colours, such that no three cells of the same colour form a right-angled triangle. We only consider right-angled triangles whose legs are parallel to the grid's edges. For example the following is not allowed: x.....x ......

I've been thinking about puzzle series - we've had a fair few of them recently-ish, and it might be a good idea to have a meta post where we can compile links to the individual puzzles of a series? Right now it seems like most people are using links to the previous and next puzzles, which requires a lot of upkeep.

ill second that

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, especially for longer ones *cough*

Q: Picture-Problem

Prim3numbahHere is a picture problem, and the task is to replace the question marks. All the information needed should be there. So... try figure it out!

@OmegaKrypton As a general rule, you should probably expect questions of that sort to go unanswered. There are many reasons why someone might change their username, and some of them involve not wanting the link between old and new names to be any clearer than necessary. (I am making no comment on the present case in particular.)

(Also as a general rule, there's something to be said for not asking such questions in the first place.)

Why is it that hints always tell you what you're already fairly sure of and never what you're still trying to work out? :-)

There has been a recent surge in questions contributing towards the Generalist badge
My prediction was that the Generalist badge will be unlocked by the 16th of this month
The prediction still holds up somehow

Q: Rubik's cube from solved to specific pattern

jahlySay I don't want to solve Rubik's cube but I want the reverse: I'm having a solved Rubik's cube (all stickers in it's right position and orientation) and I want to go from this state to a specific pattern. Are there any known algorithms for this? This is for a 3*3*3 Rubik's cube.

Q: What are the specific algorithms Feliks Zemdegs uses to solve a 3x3x3 Rubik's cube?

S VI apologise if this is not the right site to post this kind of question, but out of all SE sites this one yielded the most question concerning specific cubing algorithms (namely this, this, this, this and this). I want to improve my speedcubing time (16.00), I was learning the Zborowski-Bruchem ...

@Sphinx Everyone is really killing it with these Generalist questions

The least-used of our top 40 tags is [anagram], and it seems like there are quite a lot of questions that should have that tag but don't. I'm fixing that a bit. I don't know whether it will put [anagram] over the 200 threshold, but it might mean it gets there sooner than it otherwise would.

Q: Make $\pi$ using 2 0 2 0 in this order

ThomasLHow can you make $\pi$ using 2, 0, 2, 0 in this order? Allowed operations: +, -, x, ÷, ! (factorial), exponentiation, parentheses.

10:44 PM
Sorry, I said something wrong before about the [anagram] tag; it wasn't the least-used, it was (I think) the most-used one with <200 questions. (For those who don't know, the secret precondition for anyone to get the Generalist badge on a site is that its top 40 tags all have at least 200 questions.) There were, as I said, a bunch of questions that should have had that tag but didn't -- but I'm not going to add that tag to questions that don't deserve it just to put it above 200 :-).
Least-asked of top-40 tags is [sudoku]. There are a few questions that need that and don't have it, but not close to enough to bring it up to 200 (it's currently on 182).

@Adam Only need two for , six for , fifteen for ... I think it might even come earlier than that given how few questions are required
