@Rubio Well, I've found the word wheughing = struggling to breathe, if that helps anyone. It doesn't help me (I can't seem to get it to work).

Q: Enigma between Colleagues (Part2) - Independant from the previous part

TinyDoowyLet's give a second try with something more creative. Here is the sequence : 161 = B 198 = W 173 = ∅ 246 = B 227 = B 215 = W 192 = ∅ 184 = ? Don't hesitate to comment some improvement for our next enigma :)

. . . likewise benignity of course. But that, too, I don't see how helps. (That was terrible English, but you know what I mean.) But maybe someone can do something with it.

Q: Regex crossword

Vilx-I can't believe this old-but-gold piece hasn't been shared here. It's a regex crossword puzzle! Here's a nicely printable PDF. Kudos for this one goes to a competition held by MIT in 2013. The answer to this particular puzzle is also listed there, so this isn't much of a competition - I'm jus...

@msh210 No part of this clue or solution should be even remotely unfamiliar to anyone

aaaa it's _E+MER(GEN)CY
because "gen" = general officer (leader)
@Rubio ^

@jafe nice
@Rubio Assuming @jafe is correct, "gen" is definitely unfamiliar to me.
Ah, no, I know it as an abbr. of "general". Which works too.

11:57 AM
is there a tag for reversi?? thanks
@jafe @Rubio or any others

I don't see one at reversi or othello so I guess not. There's no name as common as those that I know of.

doesn't seem like it
yeah, also searched for reversi and othello, nothing came up

what could i use then?

I swear I saw one at some point but the tag probably didn't have enough questions

thanks
maybe i'll tag it as reversi first
feel free to retag for em
me

12:01 PM
maybe use

i'd use that as well. thanks

yes
imo

ok I went to tag it and discovered there's also a so I used that instead
Perhaps that's also better for the reversi questions

actually, pretty sure reversi is better played via electronic means, would be too tedious to scoop pieces up all the time... :D
but yeah, theoretically it has kind of a board

12:08 PM
funny how [board-games] has 80 questions and the strict subset [chess] has over 300

makes sense (IMO, but I dunno PSE standards) to tag chess questions [chess] and not [board-games] since otherwise you just clutter [board-games]. Use [board-games] only for board games that don't have their own tags

and especially not please

yeah

@jafe is correct - well done

yee haw
CCCC: Prominent Muslim supporter, primarily wanting return of Muhammad's faith after passing of leader in Medina (3)

12:14 PM
all that for 3 measly letters... seems hardly worth the effort constructing the clue :-)

hehehe

12:34 PM
We have a statistic for shortest clue and longest clue but maybe we need ones for most and least, er, efficient clues :)

Sorry was ask for the tagging conversation - where a prominent subset exists it’s usually better to only use that tag. Where tags overlap or where in that context neither is a predominant winner, both can and arguably should be applied. Chess puzzles should get tagged “chess” but not “board games” - other board games get “board games” but not “games”, etc. I think we have “checkers” so that gets just “checkers” too.
It’s flexible and user driven so it’s hard to argue borderline cases are objectively wrong - in general I think people who actually understand what the tags cover do pretty well at instinctively getting tags pretty right

@Rubio hardest clue and easiest clue, measured in seconds to solve... although generally we'd need a precise history of the solver to see when they joined the room...
> instinciveltngettibg
nice word

pretty sure this is the least effective clue... 25 letters to clue 0
Jul 27 '17 at 22:44, by stacksfiller
CCCC: Nothing left, with zero length (0)

nope - 25/0 = UNDEFINED

12:42 PM
Yeah I blame my thumbs and this tiny screen :)

yeah, you can't really do 25/0, so we calculate efficiency with the inverse of that instead ;) e.g. a 12-letter clue with a 15-letter solution has efficiency 15/12=5/4=1.25

@Rubio but sometimes there could be cases that a higher- and a lower-hierarchy tag should both go on the same question. Like maybe a puzzle that's involves both moves on a chess board and identifying board game names.

Well sure. But those are two different tags that apply for two distinct reasons, and each application if tags to a reason is done as narrowly as meaningful.

@Rubio yeah

hi guys, the reversi question is out!

12:45 PM
Huzzah

where is it

@jafe Solution to your CCCC is ALI (name of many many prominent Muslims; I guess you have in mind the original, the cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad): ISLAM< minus S(upporter) and M(edina).

@Sphinx?

@GarethMcCaughan yeah, that's correct!

I, not being as nice as @Arnold :P, I decided to continue to bully my cousin, but to cut her pain. Rules Each move, no matter white or black...

@jafe Where's the clue for "subtract S"?

"supporter primarily wanting"

what the heck can anybody see OK's Reversi question here?

i see it
2nd in the list

12:47 PM
yeah I think DEEM also posted one?

yep same here
perhaps it is to new and requires time to load

@jafe Doesn't that mean "S minus..." rather than "... minus S"?

try refreshing
@EriktheOutgolfer yep

I've pressed Ctrl+F5 numerous times...

hmm

12:48 PM
try clicking the link above in sphinx

yeah I can go to the question directly

yeah good :) hope you like it

what I can't seem to be able to do is Ctrl+F5 the new questions list to make the two most recent puzzles appear

> Create a circumstance of X-0 or 0-X with minimum X.
@OmegaKrypton I don't understand what "a circumstance of X-0 or 0-X" means. Do you mean a board all of one color? If so, a board all of 0 with minimum X is easy... it always has zero X

DEEMThere are four different things shown below One Vertical One Horizontal Two diagonal All have one common thing (the ? box) which ties them together What is it?

12:53 PM
heheh I like the "lateral thinking" tag on ^ that

@msh210 The reversi starting position prohibits this? I don't get what you mean

alright, now they appeared in the "Newest Questions" list...

@Adam I don't understand what "a circumstance of X-0 or 0-X" means.

@msh210 yeah i see what you mean now... "x wanting y" indicates that it's x that's lacking y and not the other way around
d'oh

no worries, it was obviously clear enough to solve :-)

yeah, that's why they separate between humanly possible and TAS-possible... :D
