Q: The Switchup-2.0

Rewan DemontayThis question from last year (which in itself was anticipated on CSE two years prior) has a complete switchup of all non-pawn pieces on the board. The idea is to optimize the amount of moves needed to reach the given diagram. In that puzzle, all of the pawns move to allow for fast switches. But ...

Yes, this is the exact type of open-ended question we (decided/clarified) is not allowed in the recent meta discussion.

The community recently decided to do away with open-ended puzzles. This puzzle bears all the hallmarks of what we mean by “open-ended” — it uses a scoring metric to decide a best-so-far, allows an unbounded set of candidate solutions that is only as limited as the dictionary one elects to use and how loose your "categories" are, and neither seeks nor plausibly permits a proof that any proffered answer is demonstrably “best”. For these reasons I believe we must close it, and am doing so. — Rubio ♦ 44 secs ago

Q: What is the missing number in the box

simonzackI found some online number puzzle as below: My guess was 436 (go up by 118 again, as the left & right go up by 1) but apparently it was incorrect. I cannot see any other patterns, any ideas?

Q: A bicolour masyu

jafe This is a bicolour masyu puzzle. Instead of making one continuous loop, the goal is to make two separate loops, one blue and one red. The coloured circles must be used for the loop of the same colour, whereas black circles can be used for either colour.

hi @jafe see comments in q. thx and +1

@OmegaKrypton Comments on a question already notify the OP - you don't need to bother them again in chat just to say you've pinged them in comments.

fun fact: there are almost 8 times as many riley riddles as there are puzzles made by riley
i say if you come up with a new puzzle type you should get the right to claim taxes :P
if riley collected 20% tax from all reputation gained from riley riddles he would have an extra 2.4k in rep

(multiple times that if he taxed answers as well)

C4 hints: 1. "Simp" is of course in an unusual dialect (like South African English or 1970s English) or register (like slang or formal). In fact, words in unusual dialects/registers are rampant here: they're in the clue itself, they're in the solution (or component solutions) of the cryptic part of the clue, and one is the solution to the definition part of the clue. 2. This wouldn't work as an Across clue.
