@Rubio That'd be SHREDDED WHEAT - def: breakfast, from SH_ED (lose, about), RED+D (red=Russian with Roman D after) W(ash) H(ands, starts) + EAT.

It is indeed.

And as is tradition, I don't have any up by sleeve, so give me a bit...
(also, IMO the ? was not necessary)

12:50 AM
I'm sure I could tidy the surface a bit better, but I need to be elsewhere... So:
CCCC: Rubio and Gareth help returned with Deusovi and GPR taking on new starter? (8)

What happened to the £ in Rubio's clue?
(I have the solution to Alconja's clue but have too much I need to be doing to post anything new, so I'll let someone else do it.)

@GarethMcCaughan it was ... just there. punctuation(ish) things can be ignored, unless they can't be, no?

To me £ doesn't seem like punctuation; "£500" is the same thing as "500 pounds" and you can't just ignore "pounds".

welp. I did toss a ? in there just in case. :)
(I'll avoid that in future. I seem to remember prior clues containing unused $)

It's possible that my opinion on this is idiosyncratic.

It's possible that my opinion on this is idio...tic
Incidentally, I almost made it "Lose ~$500 ..." with ~ being "about", but figured that was one step too far

2:53 AM
@Alconja DIAMONDS is AID< + MO(N_)DS
@GarethMcCaughan if you're still around and confirm that's what you had (I can't imagine it's anything else) I'll post a new one. Since I have to run for a bit and made sure I had one ready before I answered. hehe

@Rubio bingo

welp nevermind then

Q: Word Wall of Whimsical Wordy Whatchamacallits

XDVVI was making a particularly difficult word wall, when I misplaced all the words for it. Luckily, I still had the clues. However, poring through the clues, I realised that I had nine clues, yet my word wall had eight? Above all, I couldn't remember the words, so I couldn't remove the faulty clue. ...

Q: Maximum number of disjoint clue-sets that determine the same Sudoku solution?

agc"Do sudoku answers always have a single minimal clue set?" No. Solved Sudoku puzzles may have more than one set of disjoint clue-sets. And those clue-sets can vary in difficulty, so one might be easy and another diabolical, even though their 81-number answers are identical. Gareth McCaughan p...
