Q: Who am I? My first riley

generalcrispyMy prefix is a trusted mate. My suffix, cause for neighbors' hate. My infix is a cheerful youth. My whole is a powerful servant of truth.

24h C4 clue: The definition is a little unfair.

My first thought when I saw the clue was "felicitous", just because that's "cat-like-like", but it doesn't work (obviously)
@GarethMcCaughan question (that you may ignore): is "group" a mathematical group?

I will answer the more general question: I would generally avoid such specialized usages unless actually writing crossword clues for mathematicians or otherwise giving fair warning of some kind, but I am not willing to guarantee that I would literally never do it.

Q: What am I? Yet another rhyming Riley

generalcrispy My prefix is sufficient, just meeting expectation. My infix is a call to arms that condemns hesitation. My suffix is a next of kin, a term that's so endeared. My whole, I think, will leave you stunned, a status to be feared.

@MOehm lol. (thanks)

You're welcome.

?
oh, I saw it

Now we must find a ten-letter word that means "having nine lives" in Greek or Latin.

9:09 PM
cum sit hora has 10 letters :P

9:19 PM
It doesn't, however, have anything to do with having nine lives. (I make no comment on whether that is in fact what you need.)

oops i failed latin class
at least i got the 9 and the lives part

What does it have to do with either 9 or lives? Or am I all confused? (It wouldn't be the first time.)

don't think it has anything to do with those either... At least "cum" for "with" makes sense

i think sit was 9
maybe not
actually i'm just making a fool of myself

nope, sit has nothing to do with 9, sorry

9:31 PM
i took latin for about 2 weeks

"cum sit X Y" usually means something "since X is Y"
(I am not a Latin expert but I have more than a couple of weeks, in my distant past)

@thecoder16 On a good day I can read pig latin

same

I thought it might be something like a cute name for a group ("murder" of crows) minus t, surrounded by stuff. That hasn't worked yet, but it still seems reasonable

I don't see anything that could indicate surrounding

9:47 PM
No, I'm sorry, I don't mean surrounding in the "inclusion" sense. Just things before and after
Just A preceding B preceding C, etc.

got you, yeah, seems reasonable
