Q: Super High School Level Crossword

Sp3000Note: This crossword contains objectively more references to Japanese popular media than necessary. Does that fill you with despair? Upupupu... Clues Across 1. Hairstyle more popular in the '80s-'90s 7. Sigh of relaxation 10. "____monogatari", featuring popular songs "Kimi no Shiranai Monogat...

1:09 AM
@Sp3000 I'm posting a Danganronpa-themed puzzle myself soon, too =p
v3 hype?

I couldn't wait til Tues to post so I'm using Steam pre-release date as an excuse :P Much hype

1:29 AM
126d crossing 142a is evil

> 126d
142a
is this a gargantuan crossword or something that just looks suspiciously like one

123a/117d and 10a+23a/11d are the other two somewhat mean ones :P
Oh right, forgot to stick that knowledge tag on

126d / 142a are much more mean because I can't solve either without searching about v3

Ahahaha right :P (I assumed anything on the official site would be okay, since that's all introducing the game - not that I've tried looking further either for obvious spoiler reasons)

Q: Tic-Tac-Toe variant

MWilliamsTo help people think this out, I've made a web game with increasingly difficult cpu players to allow brainstorming and testing strategies: cpu player, easiest (version 1 - at least 5-in-a-row is possible against this strategy) cpu player, easy (version 2 - at least 4-in-a-row is possible agai...

1:45 AM
I've been working on this crossword for too long before realizing that I haven't seen anything danganronpa

1:58 AM
120. It might be sold "on the bone"
or several other permutations, depending on the player

;)

2:11 AM
ok done
Now to find the inevitable hidden theme

finished a bit behind Mike, but it was fun
I'm wondering how many hidden references there are, like the aforementioned 120
or "3. Phi or sigma, e.g."

If we're looking for words that cross black squares, I got CHAT, CODE, MAUL, SHOP

With varying degrees, 35A, 67A, 173D and in a way 61D+112D

2:28 AM
THIRD KEEP EGO DEUS+AQUA?

he was answering my question about references
e.g. Aqua is my avatar, and Deus is a reference to another PSE user
I noticed those (except for 35A), but forgot to point them out :P

@Sp3000 Did you intend someone else to solve this because of the potential inside jokes?

Not necessarily - the majority of it was intended to be solveable without knowledge, and the parts that do need it can be researched. ffao+Deus were just the two users I had in mind when cluing (if you're worried about needing an inside joke to solve, then no that's not present)

I feel kinda bad now, if this was meant for those with offhand danganronpa knowledge.

:P not sure what there is to feel bad about

2:36 AM
Okay, there we go. Deleted my google-fueled answer to give more folks a chance.

Er... that's not what I meant o_O

Like I said there's even one clue that is impossible without research
You shouldn't feel bad about referring to Google, I had to for a few

(In other words, no need for answer delete IMO. I mean, it's fun introducing new series to other people, and it's not like I necessarily wanted people with offhand knowledge to be the only ones solving :P)
(I'm trying to convey the fact that I'm actually happy Mike gave it a go but am clearly very bad at doing so)

2:56 AM
Where's my vote to undelete button?

@ffao Shouldn't it be where delete normally is
Oh wait you can't do that for answers

This answer really annoys me, since it's wrong and it's still got positive score:
1
A: An omalonumerophobic's number sequence

Mea Culpa NayWell, based on the answer of Ankonganit, perhaps, here is another one:

Interestingly, perhaps, MCN has reached 2K reputation but can't get Curious

there are plenty of clearly wrong answers in places that still draw upvotes, and - yes - it's incredibly annoying.
the disparity in weight between upvote and downvote means people who get sympathy votes, or random upvotes from people who don't bother to fully understand the question before judging answers, end up gaining rep and therefore thinking they're doing Something Right™ when they're obviously not

@animuson please don't perpetuate this "pity" or "sympathy" upvote myth. Data does not support it.. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/93356/…Jeff Atwood ♦ Jun 23 at 9:17
make of that what you will

The data is from 2011...

the data didn't support it 6 years ago, but that may of course have changed

Also, Jeff isn't exactly popular on Meta.

8:06 PM
heh

Appeal to authority, I know...

I don't think he's always right, don't worry ;)

I mean ... appeal to lack of authority

jeff's status is weird
he has a diamond but doesn't show up in the employees or moderators section, so nobody can see what flags and stuff he's handled lately without s direct URL

#savespyfall
oops wrong room

@Mithrandir I didn't mean what this describes. Those are clearly sympathy votes, so I am not sure what to call what I meant - but I was more talking about votes cast in support of someone('s post) because They Really Tried even though it's miles off the mark.
A sympathy vote cast to keep a negatively trending post from actually going negative seems like a pretty arbitrary thing to me and I wouldn't be surprised at all if there's no data to support that it happens.
There are also well meaning users who don't know what is expected of questions on Stack Overflow and think that behind all of the bad formatting and un-clarity there is a good question. These people don't know that we should be voting on the questions in their current state, instead of an unclear possible future state. — Tiny Giant May 27 at 18:23
^ this is closer to the mark for what I meant.

Sid
@thecoder16 considering our resident spy has been busy, it's no wonder spyfall is hardly played.

oh yeah, where ever did n_p go?

Sid
@Rubio doorknob seems to be closing in on your record. :-)

2 days - we you guys can do it!

9:08 PM
I prefer to vote based on a post's physical state. A solid post is usually upvoted, while one with little substance typically isn't.

I am pretty sure we're long overdue for another hint
@Apep Yeah me too. That position isn't what I meant either, but was at least a little closer. I was looking for someone who expressed my idea, but didn't see any, so went with that one

So between classes, homework, two jobs, sports, something's gotta give a little :/

I think there are people who do upvote because, without really understanding the question or how the answer fits it, think that an answer that shows its poster put in a good bit of effort is deserving of an upvote. They're often quite wrong.

Or you're like me, who never downvotes and only upvotes questions

Q: Fold a standard paper to get a Rhombus

DEEMA follow up to the "Create a 3 inch measurement" post. Can you create a Rhombus ( a parallelogram with all sides equal AND which is not a square-- my restriction) using a standard letter size paper ( 8.5 x 11 inches) merely by folding, in 7 steps or less? The solution must be a folded paper th...
