Well, damn, I just tried to tackle a riddle on here (Accidentally used a three dimensional method when just two dimensions were needed... oops), and I came to the correct answer, but the question was already answered. Is there any way to search for unanswered riddles?

Oh, I'm just blind, nevermind me

@JoeZ. Tomorrow you'll be #2 user again! :-)

what happened to Gamow?

@xnor He got caught in the end. Account locked, I suspect.

caught?

How much detail do you want? :-p

10:40 PM
i'm a sucker for juicy detail

Let's say Gamow-Martin would be a better thing to call him than Gamow

Martin?

The one who kept asking questions answered by Gamow and vice versa

so a sock-puppet?

Every time I answered one of Gamow's questions, Martin would post another answer and get the tick

10:42 PM
wow, that's unfortunate

@xnor Exactly! I was going to flag, but apparently action was already taken before I got round to it

he/they gots lots of rep from asking good questions
why the need?

I remember being super-impressed by Gamow's answer to this.

what a sad loss for the community

It's like he could read Martin's mind or something!

10:43 PM
congrats on your sleuthing though
it's like a super-puzzle!
maybe that was the secret plan :-P

That's an interesting way of looking at it! :-)
We may get told off for discussing this in public...

oh, is this supposed to be secret?

I'm not sure
@Emrakul will tell us off if any telling off is needed ;-)

eh, scrub this if you want @Emrakul

I'm not revealing anything that was told to me privately or anything
or any secret workings of the rep/flag/ban system
So it should be fine

I haven't actually been reading

well, thanks for telling me, it certainly appeased my curiousity

@xnor And now you know you should be #3 user!
@JoeZ. will probably be interested too (if he likes gossip)

and congrats, you're now #1 without +3000 rep :-)

@xnor I wonder if I should pay back that 3000 some time?
I've been legitimately #1 without 3000 for a long time, ever since I overtook JoeZ+3000
And congrats in advance to you for reaching 5 digits!

thanks in advance!

11:12 PM
I... see
@ the gossip, I mean

why does this community have so much weird drama?

I have no idea
I've left multiple times due to it

@JoeZ. Next people will find out we're the same person!

maybe it has a characteristically younger population? I'd be interested in those analyti--no way
you just cut me off mid-sentence, there's no way we'd be the same person :P

well, i do like to disagree with myself, don't I think?

11:14 PM
wait, what
anyway, reputation isn't cool anymore, you know what's cool?
gold badges :P

congrats!
oh, i got it too

how far are each of you guys toward Socratic?

not even close

just wondering :P
oh

i'm not prolific

11:16 PM
36/100 here
well you do have the next highest reputation after me

mostly from answers

hey, my rep is mostly from answers too

unfortunately, answers both give more rep and get easier upvotes
i'm not a fan though of how gamified the new profile page is

gamify ALL the things, I guess

like, badges are interesting, and cool to talk about, but when SE is sticking it up there, it feels disingenuous

11:17 PM
true

like they want us in the rat race for their own benefit

sometimes it feels like that here too
like this site (and stack exchange in general) is a giant rat race
3

my puzzle-writing efforts lately have been going to other places though, so I'm not like to get to that badge any time soon

I'm a bit afraid to contribute my more grand riddles here

oh why?

11:19 PM
mostly out of fear that I'll lose control over them

you mean copyright-wise?

I have some clever puzzles here, but not ... well, yes, in a sense
like, I free-license my stuff too, but in the case of Stack Exchange everything is public forever, basically

i see
i've had some of that dilemma too

and there are some things I'm not comfortable releasing under that model

there's things that i could post, but that would mean that if i use for anything else, it appears on Google

11:20 PM
mostly because ... yeah, exactly
it would be attributed to the Stack Exchange more than it would to me
and there are some little things that I'm okay with that for, but some others I'm not

oh, interesting

I don't have any problem answering everyone's riddles under the Stack Exchange model

but could you maybe get some advertising/exposure that way?

I couhld, but

i don't know how much SE tolerates

11:21 PM
*could, but
that's why I only put some puzzles here
mostly my "advertising" is in the form of a profile link to the Temple of Quetzalcoatl
(which I haven't updated, lol)
then there are some that aren't at all suitable for this format
for example, we disallowed situation riddles because they prompt too much discussion and aren't really a straight Q&A format
I could make a forum called "the Chapel of Quetzalcoatl", I suppose
for less formal puzzling-based stuff

it's unfortunate that we have to restrict more vague types of puzzles, because I would be happy to see your situation riddles
the problem is that these are the types of things that new users are likely to post poor and broken examples of

and I understand that

and rules can't say "but if it's good"

I don't want them on this site either
but there are just some things of mine that would be unsuitable for this site
or that would be unsuitable for my ownership of my own puzzles if they were put on this site

maybe this is worth making a meta post about?

11:26 PM
I don't think so

i feel that contributions for expert puzzlers are the biggest thing this site needs to succeed

it's not really about the site, but about the relationship between me and the Stack Exchange model
