Q: Attempting to make an interesting puzzle

beanmanofbeans Hmmm, what could it mean? (it's pretty easy)

CCCC hint: this clue is a ddef

@juicifer Lol
Oh darn, I thought for sure there was gonna be an anagram there somewhere

i suspect "murder man" is one of the definitions and it's somewhat trickier than just a man who committed a murder... if that was the case why would you write murder man instead of simply murderer
e.g. HITCHCOCK might be "Murder man" because he directed the film Murder
or maybe a term for a male raven because a group of ravens is a murder

I swear, this place was a mess before i got here.
@Jafe , enjoy English like never!
Signed, from the land of ice and snow.

6:36 AM
@juicifer TRAMPLING ddef?
(A shot in the dark)
Murdering a man by trampling, and "in a mad dash"= trampling

6:54 AM
can't use murder = trampling, it'd have to be murdering with the -ing

Hmmm

7:12 AM
@Anonymus25 yeah it's not trampling

7:37 AM
@Jafe could work as a noun

7:56 AM
ah, like "killing", that's actually true
"man" is still unused though

yeah

Maybe a Fast & Furious character whose name means murder?

8:14 AM
if a cutthroat is someone who cuts throats, maybe a breakneck is someone who breaks necks, i.e. a murder man... and a breakneck speed is a mad dash :P
"what do you do for a living?" "oh, i'm a security guard and part-time breakneck"

"I kill lives to live"

8:41 AM
Plot twist: the next hint is "this clue is a ddef... and an &lit"

those are pretty rare!

8:57 AM
Yeah haha

oAlt: ddef &lits are rare
Also oAlt: **makes a ddef &lit**

here's one just for fun because i can't get anywhere with the c4
Powerful arms (4)

9:22 AM
@Anonymus25 heh

Prim3numbahReplace the "?" with the correct answer (all "?" unique). Explain why. Astana Muscat Bangkok Vilnius Quito Tegucigalpa Riga Alger Caracas Cairo Washington DC Brussels Luanda Montevideo Bishkek Podgorica Male Saint John's ..... ..... ..... Santo Domingo Amsterdam Kabul Roseau Vienna Bamako ..... ...

@Jafe You could probably get away with using BREAK NECK as a definition of "murder" or "murder man" - i'm not sure about the ddef-iness of the clue given the space though...

Too good to stow up my sleeve:
Other surprises in store. One at a time.

@juicifer ELIZABETH (ddef, Elizabeth Bathory? She murdered a man (father) but mad dash doesn’t fit))

the first part doesn't really fit either, a woman who murders a man isn't a "murder man"

6:12 PM
@Jafe @parz it is neither breakneck nor elizabeth

6:40 PM
I'm futzing with 'ELI M IN A TE', but it either needs TE to mean mad dash, or ME to be EM* (em-dash) which would not be a ddef, or wordplay with MITE around NA, which again is wordplay
also Eli and M would mean man
so it would just have to be NA in MITE, which is wordplay

7:06 PM
My QAT search string: |ABCDE|=9;ABCDE={thes:murder}&(*ina*); A={cat:names};|B|=0-; |C|=0-; |D|=0-; |E|=0-

7:34 PM
@AncientSwordRage something to do with BUTCHER?
@juicifer ELIMINATE (Eli m (for metres) in a TE (tight end in US football, who might be seen in a mad dash)) If this is right, kudos to @AncientSwordRage

7:58 PM
none of that is consistent with the thing being a double definition as juicifer says it is, surely?

8:14 PM
@parz She killed her own father? I thought her murder victims were… Báthorys not included.

8:41 PM
yeah it's definitely not eliminate

3 hours later…
11:25 PM
@GarethMcCaughan yeah, it was a dead end
