in English for everyone else (and because I need practice translating :-) ) --

Don't worry, I'm careful and even wear a sweater.
Don't worry, it's unnecessary, all is well.
Don't worry, it's great here, they're shelling us properly.
Really, nothing's lacking.
Don't worry, it's summer camp here, we're having fun.
Yesterday there was even time to shower.
Don't worry, I get some sleep, and I dream about you.
When I come back to the city we'll marry.

Chorus: Send me underwear and undershirts,
here everyone's like animals.

hey North!

Sid
So, it looks like my Bluetooth option is finally showing up in the settings.
So, that's definitely some progress.

that's good :)

Ms. Bobble is back :)

4:39 PM
I've been here for the whole time

hey

My statue park is ready to post, just have to test-solve it one more time :)

wahoo! would attempt to solve if i was, y'know, actually good at puzzles
unfortunately, I'm not

grammar, on the other hand...

(amn't is actually a word)

5:15 PM
grammar ain't this here boy's talent, ya hear me?

ah, didn't know that!

there, i fixed it, ok?

@matt hi! Sorry, wasn't really here

i compulsively check chat even if i have nothing to say

hm

5:20 PM
once i had this open on the computer, then took out my phone and thought "hm, i should check the chat" and opened it there as well

Do you want to try to solve Gareth's CCCC before he posts it?
2

yes!

i think "end of the day" is Y

okay, what obscure word do you think the answer is?

it's obviously got to be VOLDY
hey voldy!

5:22 PM
Hiya

1 min ago, by bobble
Do you want to try to solve Gareth's CCCC before he posts it?

@jafe no, "end of the day" is obviously E + DATE

@bobble how?

"end of thE" = E + "day" = DATE

5:23 PM
end of the = E
the last one was a maths term so probably this is something else

what are we even doing

Yea
School ugh

for people who took spanish: what subject pronoun is los juegos de videos?
(random question, sorry)

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Random question #2: What XKCD do you find yourself using the most?
Mine is 169

ellos?

5:27 PM
@matt why would it be anything but "ellos"?

you people are smart

What browser do you use?

chrome / safari

Hmmm. Edge for me (and Bing + Give with Bing)
Ok I should go I’m in class D:

5:31 PM
that's an extremely useful quote/comic

indeed

5:47 PM
haha nice one mith

Sid
@matt Well now the problem is that it doesn't yet detect my earphones when Bluetooth is turned on, hehe

that sucks

Sid
Well, looks like there's still a problem. It doesn't detect my cell phone's Bluetooth either(my Cell Phone doesn't list the PC in the "Avaliable devices" section either)

Sid
6:17 PM
Okay, so now it's only not detecting my earphones.
Got the bluetooth working. Now only need to figure out how to get it connected to the earphones.

nice :)

6:33 PM
@Mithical some people: "1st amendment says, you have to listen to my bullsh"

"And you can't tell me that I'm wrong. That's illegal. First Amendment"

haha :p
hey avi!

statue park posted!

will check out

I really hope it's good, and that I didn't overlook any typos crosses fingers

6:41 PM
no typos found :)

@Mithical Because of free speech, other people can shit on your product too

ooh statue park

Fire update: Smoke is travelling very, very badly. It seems like half of the people in our school had to evacuate. There is ash and WOOD CHIP DEBRIS falling from the sky

OOOOOOOOOF
None of your wood chips, I hope?

:eyes:

6:45 PM
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

@bobble Not yet... I fear it may turn for the worse

Are you at school or at home today?

I'm at school right now
It smells like a campfire. Which is traumatic
Seeing my fellow trees be burnt for marshmallows... shivers

6:51 PM
@matt I would rather you not share the exact region, thank you
That is very, very close to where I live
But it went from 50 acres to 2000 acres in five hours
@matt Can you delete that, please?

there we go
sorry bout that

It's fine. Thanks for the concern, but you know

Q: Bobblie Statue Park

bobbleThis is a Statue Park puzzle. Rules of Statue Park: (shamelessly stolen from an earlier puzzle by @Deusovi) Shade some cells of the grid to form the given set of pieces. Pieces may be rotated or reflected. Pieces cannot be orthogonally adjacent (though they can touch at a corner). All unshaded ...

:|

Ey, statue park!

6:53 PM
the bobblie statue park!

You can see the Google Sheet grid I spent a literal hour fiddilng with to make it look nice

how exactly did you put the circle things in there?
shapes? unicode things?

hm, this is an interesting puzzle

@matt unicode, googled "copy black dot" and "copy white dot"

hm

6:57 PM
@Deusovi I assume you've gotten the initial stuff, but there's a big break-in you need to figure out after.

What is orthogonical?

yeah, currently looking for a more global argument
@PrinceNorthLæraðr "orthogonal" means "left/right/up/down, not diagonal"

@PrinceNorthLæraðr edge touching, also "orthogonal"

@Deusovi Ah, thank you

hm, I think I may have found The Thing

7:00 PM
@LukasRotter, I gave you an upvote for the sheer audacity of having a murder mystery where everyone dies.

@deusovi - what Thing would that be?

@bobble xD

well that would be spoilers, no?

ah, right

hm, nope, didn't find it

7:02 PM
@LukasRotter colonel mustard?? :P

I promise you there is a Thing which I have quadruple-checked

have other ideas for what it could be
...nope not seeing it

hello there anarrzayev

i've found a bifurcation on a global-ish thing that leads to a contradiction, but it takes a while to get there

that may be part of the intended path - it requires a teensy bit of case-bashing

Q: Chain Puzzle: Tabletop Games #04 - Mansion Massacre

Lukas RotterThis is the fourth Chain Puzzle in the Tabletop Games series, in which all puzzles are themed around board games, card games, tile games, and the like. The answer to this puzzle is a thematic word or phrase. The solver whose answer is awarded the green checkmark has first refusal on the opportuni...

hey voldy!

that was a nice puzzle! not sure whether my path through it was what you intended, but i've posted my answer

wow

The reasoning about how the 6s and 8 could fit was exactly my intended path

7:33 PM
neat! it was really tough to do without my identifying those cells - i was a bit hesitant to pursue that route because i couldn't find a nice set of 10, but it turned out that my 11 worked

It was really hard to clue the global deduction without making any smaller, trivial deductions pop up early.
First I set up the diagonal line, then plopped some dots on either side that would force the global deduction, then checked for a unique solutions, and adjusted some clues based on my findings... repeating over and over, and then after a while I landed on this set of clues.

did you have a particular set of dots that would force the deduction in mind?

No, but I fiddled with the dots at the top-right and bottom-left corner areas the most.

idea: a statue park that uses polyhexes instead of polyominoes.

@matt be the change you wish to see in the world

7:38 PM
well then
i just need a hexagonal spreadsheet editor

hey voldy!

yeah, a hexagonal spreadsheet editor would be nice

@Voldemort'sWrath wow just can't find a download button for that

7:41 PM
lol it's just an idea
I wish it were real

oh i see

so... whassup?

points up

i generally emulate hexagons in a spreadsheet by setting columns to half the width of rows, then merging each pair of cells per row, staggered
like this

huh, interesting

7:43 PM
sounds like too much work

copy-pasting makes it pretty easy

less work than coding up a VBScript to do that :D

at least writing a vb script is more fun

problem is the hexominoes look a little weird

(also remember to save and reuse)

7:44 PM
If you want to know my exact intended path, it involved realizing that none of the diagonal dots could be part of a 6 (there is a small amount of case-bashing to check this for E), then seeing that only a single 6 could fit in the upper-right triangle. After that you realize that any way you place a 6 in the bottom-left triangle will block the 8 from extending downwards, and that forces the 8 to got sideways. Then the same logic that you used.

another option would be to use ASCII art

shudders

But your global deduction was similar and made the same conclusions

ascii art

makes sense

7:45 PM
 _ _
/A\_/B\
\_/C\_/
  \_/
(it looks fine without SE's ridiculous line spacing)

That looks like Bob the Builder ngl

????

safety glasses + mouth & nose
or esther, your local friendly grandma

@Deusovi, re-reading your explanation - why can't I be a 6-piece? F would then be a 4-peice extending down.

connectivity of unshaded cells

7:50 PM
ahh, I see that

update on conlang: the syllable structure is RNVPFT (rhotic-nasal-vowel-plosive-fricative-tone)
also it will have the aspirated lengthened voiceless bilabial trill

By the way, I tried really hard to figure out a way to make the bottom-right corner white dots unnecessary (they're the only non-rotationally symmetric clues). It was not to be, sadly.

indeed, that is sad

8:19 PM
hey north!
hey sid!

9:13 PM
@Stiv, I saw you solved my Statue Park: what did you think of difficulty/deductions? Did you like the non-standard piece bank?

@bobble I liked the new pieces :) The presence of all the 2's meant I could (EDIT: could not) use a lot of the standard deductions I would usually employ, which is why I focused on the largest pieces first. It fell into place pretty nicely for me after that. Thing is, I've done a LOT of Statue Park lately (like you) so I probably managed to solve it quicker than the average. Some nice deductions in there, and several stages to it, which was good.

three - on either side for a strikethrough

(---strikethrough--- for strikethrough in chat BTW)

Merci!

if you haven't memorized five different flavors of markdown for use in different platforms do you even internet
;)

9:20 PM
I have memorized markdown for comments, chat, and questions/answers.
Is that enough?

nope. You need to add Discord to the mix. And the Github flavor.

did you memorize both the old and the new SE Markdown
@JohnDvorak and then Slack as well

nope. I only joined after Commonmark started

lucky ... you

oh, oh, and WhatsApp syntax. good luck trying to remember code formatting on WhatsApp

9:23 PM
I am fluent in HTML & CSS, if that means anything

I do suppose you could use HTML instead of SE post markdown...

<b>bold test</b>
nope

In questions you can (most of it, obviously)

right, right
and answers ofc

just format everything in MathJax #BadRubioIdeas

9:32 PM
that's terrible for semantics

I have a standard edit reason: "mathjax increases page load time" or something like that

it does?

I edited out someone using mathjax to make a numbered list. Seriously, you don't have to do that.

like why

because it's an extra kind of thing to render

9:33 PM
in case folks didn't get the reference, it was a reference to this puzzle:

Q: What does D'Arvit mean?

Rand al'ThorD'Arvit is the most commonly used Gnommish word in the Artemis Fowl series. We know it's a swear word from the first time it's introduced: “D’Arvit!” growled Root.
