@Randal'Thor That Koffka puzzle is sort of a riddle, in that indirect clues alluding to an answer are given. I'm not particularly concerned either way to be honest, but ... if not a riddle, what is it?

Q: Congratulations Gareth! and the end of an era

Rand al'ThorChange is afoot! In the list of all users ranked by reputation. I've been #1 in that list, the highest-reputation user on Puzzling SE, since early 2015. But it seems the time has finally come to give up that position and succumb to the relentless rise of the Gareth. Mr McCaughan joined Puzzling...

^ damn. Congrats @GarethMcCaughan :)

Yeah, very impressive! (I need to get back to work on catching up there...)

9:18 PM
@Rubio I still don't get it ... pretty much any puzzle has indirect clues alluding to an answer. If it's a riddle, it should be describing something - what's it describing? There's a pattern to be found among words, not a thing being described indirectly.

@Randal'Thor There's more to that puzzle than just the word-property/pattern.

Then there is something I'm missing?
It doesn't seem to be in the accepted (and only) answer though.

The bottom part of the question (and answer)?

I mean, of course feel free to just roll back my edit @Rubio. Normally I'd just assume that you know what you're doing, but I wasn't sure if 2016-you had a good grasp of tag usages yet :-)

@Randal'Thor The additional part is is definitely addressed in the accepted answer
I can understand if you think the "connect the clues" part is dissimilar to a riddle enough to not warrant that tag, but I thought (and still think) it's close enough.
I wouldn't put "riddle" on a standard issue "What is a ... Word™?" puzzle, for sure.

9:28 PM
You mean the part where we need to add up the numbers and solve a simple inequality?

The part where you need to figure out that you have to add up the numbers and solve a simple inequality.

The part where you need to figure out what Koffka references, what the reference to weeks/days/hours is about, and adding the bits up to be a number that works? yes.

OK, I see your point. But it's still not describing a solution in an indirect way. None of the clues actually point to 47, only to a solution process by which you can get 47.
Lots of puzzles have indirect clues towards an unknown solution process without being called s.

I could see an argument in favor of it being a riddle, with the condition that the solution to the riddle is the process of combining the numbers rather than the solution to the overall puzzle.
(I don't have an opinion either way.)

9:50 PM
I’m relatively ambivalent myself. I’d agree with Deus that the objective of the “riddle” would be figuring out the question - not the answer.

10:34 PM
Thanks for the congratulations @Randal'Thor, @Rubio, @Deusovi. I may yet get overtaken again, of course...
and since no one else has done it and tomorrow should be quieter than today:
@Deusovi Solution to your CCCC is BRASS TACKS (= BRAS STACKS). My quibble is that those would be bra stacks or stacks of bras but surely not bras stacks :-).

That's right! (And I was thinking of the possessive: BRAS' STACKS)

Oh, I see. Then I retract my quibblage.
