I am trying to edit something and I keep typing the wrong thing >.<

(especially since I have done so too many times, and have promised to myself not to change it since late December 2016...)

Q: Calculator Bomb

Excited RaichuSo, I need your help. I got home after a long day and found a calculator roughly taped to my door. However, there was something much more disturbing attached to that calculator. It was some kind of black device with a blinking red 12 on it. There was also a note which I read. Hello... In ord...

Q: Please help, logical proof sentence, to explain a database coding process?

MikeI have a database programming job, and my boss is driving me nuts, because I can logically proof in a written email how data between some tables in a database are related. I have two tables let's call them tables A and B. Table A has a primary key called FileID and another column called FileTyp...

Q: Alberta's winter is pretty mild

jafe Republic of some merit, I'm the world's number one. I'm colder than Alberta, as to snow I have a ton. I'm larger than some countries, such as Nauru and Algeria. Yet in a sense I'm smaller than Mauritius or Liberia. What am I?

Q: Finding the hidden path (new grid puzzle concept?)

YessoanI was toying around with grid-based puzzles, and I can up with a format that I'm not sure exists yet, and from my testing leaves only one solution. (If it exists or is broken, please let me know so I can adjust this post.) I'm calling this a hidden path maze. These are the rules: The objective...

2:48 PM
hello all, I have a question about puzzle identification

2:58 PM
I don't think there are a huge number of people around here right now, but go ahead...

I feel like this would be pretty simple, since I remember people talking about these when I was here:
I was watching these awful riddle videos (they're bad in a lot of ways, not the least of which is that their answer to one in this video is straight up wrong), and they give the answers to the riddles in the videos, except occasionally they don't, like the last one in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=XaVftTbBs08
most of the riddles tend to be fairly simple (or just old chestnuts that you've heard a million times), but that one I was kind of stumped on, despite the fact that I'm positive I've heard it before. I've tried looking it up but I have no idea what to search for for the generalized form (i.e., the version I heard probably did not use the same names, probably not even the same scenario)

So, er, I'm not going to sit through 12 minutes of awful riddle video; can you either tell me what the thing is or at least say exactly when in the video it is?

oh did it not link to the point in the video where the riddle starts?
ok:
two people who cannot communicate have something (can be each person has a different color, or both could have same color) on their heads, they have to correctly guess what color the thing on their heads is

Yeah the link doesn't have t?= so you didn't specify a timestamp, but in general it looks like you want en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hat_puzzle

(ok, I found the relevant bit of the very annoying video)

3:09 PM
yes I am sorry that the video sucks ass

so, they're sitting opposite one another while they eat a meal, right? It seems like it shouldn't be hard for them to devise a code to communicate by how they eat

see I figured codes were out

e.g., if they have a knife and a fork in front of them, each picks up one or the other first depending on the other's ribbon

that seems too easy

ok, how about this? each asks for a glass of water
and uses it as a (rubbish but probably good enough) mirror

3:10 PM
hmm
I mean yeah I guess that works
I was hoping there was a more elegant, non "lateral-thinking" solution

if literally no lateral thinking then they have no information and it's hard to see how they can do anything

it's entirely possible that the video totally fucked up the riddle
they're not very thorough

as some commenters there suggested, if they are asked sequentially and in one another's hearing then A can answer with B's colour and then B can copy A; this guarantees that B at least gets it right.
ooh, wait, there's something cleverer
which one of the commenters mentions and I should have thought of

yeah I'm leaning toward the answer just being one of the ones you've mentioned; they're not really satisfying, and I could have sworn there was a 'canon' answer

so A answers with the colour of B's, and B answers with the colour different from A's
note that they can do this even if they are asked separately and privately
this guarantees that they aren't both wrong

3:17 PM
hmm
yeah I'm gonna assume that's the intended answer
I think ultimately this ended up being a case of my expectation being higher than the actual puzzle allowed for
thank you for enduring that awful video

that's OK! I did manage to find the actually-relevant bit and skip the rest.

those videos are all very content-farmy; they just slap together 3 <= n < 10 things with very little attention paid to detail

Q: Palindromic number puzzle - make 505 from 20202

tomCan you assemble a formula using the numbers $2$, $0$, $2$, $0$, and $2$ in any order so that the results equals $505$. You may use the operations $x + y$, $x - y$, $x \times y$, $x \div y$, $x!$, $\sqrt{x}$, $\sqrt[\leftroot{-2}\uproot{2}x]{y}$ and $x^y$, as long as all operands are either $2$, ...

the only sense I can make of "seija's hammer" is either "something something kijin = <hammer's eastern origin>" or "miracle mallet". I had to look all of this up
if you decide to give a clue, I would like some kind of hint as to how to make sense of "Seija", since I'm not familiar with the games at all

What you need to know about Touhou should hopefully be evident to most people here (even those who have never played it) without using google
