Q: Here's one: "virus.exe"

DandelionYou have just arrived at work and walked to your cubicle, and after checking your emails, you are about to get started with your project, when you notice a strange new application on your desktop. The text under the application icon is simply "virus.exe", and this was what the icon looked like:...

Q: Puzzle on encoding of a word

LumosMaximaIn a certain code, AFZALPUR is written as BCBGYVOS. What is the code for FARIDKOT? As per my attempts so far, I cannot find a definite sequence of encoding. Both A and Z appear to be encoded to B, which is a bit puzzling. Some intuition in this regard would help.

Q: Identify the special one among 12 coins

SzetoWe have 12 coins, and only 11 of them have the same mass. It can be assumed that all coins have identical appearances. We have a lever. How can we identify the special coin, by taking measurements from the lever for only three times? Example: If we have 6 identical coins and one of them is...

CCCC: Focussing on the central parts only, the King is immersed in study (I don't know the name in Latin for it) (6, 6)

9:57 AM
O_O

I want to correct it as "focusing", but it's technically fine. :|

Is "focussing" wrong? I always use the double-s variant, because single s suggests a long u to me as in abusing. (But I'm willing to be corrected. It would't break the C4.)

No, it's not wrong, unfortunately
I'm thinking... ????[-m]on arc[-h]??? -- arcana?

I know the answer now, but I don't know the whole derivation

That could be because some of it may be a bit cheesy. Or too clever for its own good. (Sorry.)

Yeah, I am completely certain of the answer, but I have no idea how the outer bits are derived. And I can't work on it any more right now -- if nobody has it by this evening, maybe I'll figure it out

Q: Paper, pencil and a bunch of bars

jafeAn entry for the Fortnightly Topic Challenge #40. Alice and Bob are two rational players who are playing a simple pencil-and-paper game. In the beginning, there are fifteen small vertical bars on the paper in the form of a pyramid. Players take turns crossing over one or more bars, and th...

I think Eric would have got there quickly if he'd taken a few more minutes.
@MOehm The solution to your CCCC is TUNNEL VISION. Def is "Focussing on the central parts only". The King is ELVIS, who is immersed in TUNNION which may be obtained from TUITION by replacing IT with NN, the initials of "nomen nescio" which means "I do not know the name" in Latin and is used when you'd normally write a name but don't know it.
Nice clue, by the way.
It may be a little while before I have a replacement clue.

@GarethMcCaughan I was looking at "nescio nomine" and the "tu" from "study" to try to get "tunnion", but I was not considering replacement

CainA variation on this problem, where coins can become neighbors. There is a line of $n$ coins on the table, all showing either heads or tails. Q: The Number Guessing Game

Excited RaichuTwo people are playing an interesting form of a number guessing game, with the following rules: One person is the guesser, and one person is the thinker. @GarethMcCaughan Yes! You've managed to make the explanation even longer than the already rather long clue.

Yes, I admit it was a bit laboured.

Q: Special triangles in convex polygons

Francesco ArnaudoGiven equal-sided 30-60-90 triangles, what is the polygon with the highest number of sides that I can build from them? This seems a very easy task by first look, but I’m totally stuck right now. The only thing I’m pretty sure of is that the polygon can at most have 12 sides, because a 150 degree...
