Hey

Hey!

Nice @ffao :)

1:14 AM
Ωance!

o/
By the way, @Rubio, "after" contains a fifth glyph
Is that intentional?

did I mess up?? oh dear
Oops. good catch - that was a late edit and obviously I screwed it up :)
thanks
Fixed
Figures the two edits I do in-editbox to make the surface reading cleaner, end up being broken. Reverted to the original versions of the text there - thanks again. should be correct now.

Welcome to the riddled world.

I missed that second one

I'll edit that in once I get off mobile; typing the answer itself was enough of a pain

oh my. My condolences. :)
I've accepted it as-is, but if you want to hit all the clues I think those are the only intended ones you didn't include.

proof positive that I'm a dumb-dumb

1:51 AM
@Rubio, @ffao, @Sconibulus: We appear to have some people gathering in the Contact room

i noticed

Q: Adderlink: Almost symmetrical

Wen1nowRules: Hey, this looks like slitherlink! In fact, it is two slitherlinks added together. So both of the two slitherlinks have clues in exactly the same locations as this grid below. Furthermore, a 2 means that there is either a 2 in one of the small grids and a 0 in the other, or a 1 in each. It...

Well, again I'll go there once I get off mobile :)

Holy mackerel the golfers invaded contact

Yeah, that happened a while ago. They're generally nice, so we let them stay :P

yeah, didn't that happen like 2 weeks ago

@Deusovi You say that like it wasn't just me and Rubio the day the flood happened :P
I just noticed there's a full house of them atm

Q: Just by coincidence?

prog_SAHILI was asked this puzzle in one of my interviews and it left me bedazzled for a few minutes. Puzzle goes as this: Jake sets out to meet his mother at 10:00 AM on Sunday. The day was quite busy and he met traffic all the way until he reached the outskirts of the town. He drove at a constan...

Haha Deus smacked that puzzle down fast.

lol

3 hours later…
6:47 AM
@n_palum You mean deleted it?

Deus marked it dupe. OP deleted it.

@incesterror21 I guess answered it very quickly
It was voluntarily removed by the author though

I see. Yes Deus can be very fast
You need to include easy clues he can get fast and then get stuck

Heh

Someone should write a meta post "How to defend your puzzle against Deusovi"

6:51 AM
@incesterror21 Ask him to testsolve! :D

What a good idea!

Is anyone up for Contact/Codenames?

I am up for both
Although I think Contact would be easier atm

7:12 AM
Ditto
Is there an easy way to change to chat rooms from the puzzling main site?

what do you consider easy? you can click on "Stack Exchange" at the top, then "chat"

Okay, thanks

@ffao You can sometimes see active chatrooms on the side of the site too

true, that doesn't work on mobile though

Or you can bookmark them!

Q: What is the current fortnightly topic challenge?

Wen1nowSorry if I'm being a bit ignorant, but what is the current fortnightly topic challenge? According to the topic discussion, the metapuzzle thing ends on May 3rd. In fact, this also suggests that the metapuzzles topic has also ended. Has it?

Hey, is anybody familiar with SEDE queries?

What do you mean?

Would you know how to calculate the total number of upvotes of a tag

I did that once
I do not remember everything but we can work it out
And look for a query that is doing sth similar to my problem

*Total number of upvotes for questions only

Again, what are you trying to do?

11:10 AM
Calculate averages for the upvotes on questions for each tag, to see which tag has the highest average upvote number per question

So a) count number of questions for each tag
b) count all questions?
c) = a/b

counting the questions is just count right?

Oh not questions but upvotes

@incesterror21 Is there any relevance of Avigrail with solving the puzzle? :-/

The pink COUNT right
@Techidiot What do you mean? brb

11:12 AM
Yep
Total upvotes not questions

@incesterror21 I mean, is there any clues which needs to be obtained using Avigrail's user profile or something like that? I hope there is no relevance of that..

I just removed the UserId stuff

Oh... I just made the connection between V for Vendetta and you. Does that mean you won't be around on the chat either?
total upvotes across all users, preferably

@Techidiot There is I think 1 information you have to take from there. I think the others are somewhere else
@Wen1now I will still be around I guess

But, is it clued any where? apart from you publicly revealing it last night?

11:18 AM
I think it is. Maybe I didn't make clear enough

Where, historical knowledge of you being Avigrail was required I guess which I didn't had :)
Hmm..

@Techidiot No idea what you're talking about O:)
@Wen1now Did the link help you? I think it does count the Upvotes for each tag.

The guy with girls thing :)
Also, the first letter of the hints starting from bottom gives IAMTC..which may not be relevant..Hmm

"Think bigger" is pretty useful

Hmm..May be answers to all your questions..or may be their first letters or may be first letters of all your questions..
Okay.. will continue to find

Thanks! I gtg now

@ffao Nice query

@ffao Thanks! This is fantastic.

Looks like is our most popular tag, mostly thanks to the "kill the sun" questions

They look interesting
but I have no clue what's going on

I am having some problem in a CC:
He has no illusions about a record (7)
The answer is REALIST
But how?

"he has no illusions" has to be the def; leaving, maybe, RE(A)LIST, but "relist" for "record" is terrible in my opinion

oh..Do we use "about" for anagramming?

It can be yes

oh. That's something new I found. Thanks

Whoa. This one is good.

about isn't an anagrind there - it means "surrounding"

It should be read as "Re: a list"

oh. ^ yeah that would do it
ddef.

1:41 PM
where did Re come from?

Re=in response to=about

oh.
Never knew "Re" is a word. I thought it's only a prefix.

You may have seen "Re" in email headers

Yes.
Now I am realising that it isn't a short form of reply ._.
(brb)

2:02 PM
it's short for "regarding"

I should be spending more time on ELL.SE chatroom instead of this room.
But this is home :p

though I'm not really sure if the first part is a definition

It's loose :P and wasn't supposed to be hard
Would those be fair in contact maybe? Since they have real world defs

5:14 PM
@n_palum Anything's fair in Contact, as long as someone can guess it...

@GentlePurpleRain Worried they'd borderline the specific knowledge but I guess not

The only thing not fair is something the defender would be hopelessly unable to answer. But in general, yeah - if someone can guess it, it's fair game

But we should find out in +/- 2 hours.

it is now clear to me that in the vote room I mistook rep for vote tally. and that I thought way more people voted than did

@GentlePurpleRain Quick mod request: I made a goof and accidentally double-posted an answer. Do you mind deleting it?

@MikeQ Looks like you already did. (You can always delete your own posts.)

@GentlePurpleRain I thought there was a difference between "deleted by author" and "perma-deleted by mod".

Nope, sorry. It's now there in perpetuity to be seen by every 10k+ rep user... :)
I think if there's a compelling reason, like personal information, community mods can perma-delete, but in this case I don't think it's necessary.

7:25 PM
@Tumbler41 Use an @ to ping someone.

Haha I was just trying to search and didn't realize my focus was on the chat. I wasn't trying to ping anyone. Thanks though.

no worries.

7:37 PM
@GentlePurpleRain in cases where there was personal information leaked, there's a redact tool, but I think only CMs can permanently nuke something

Oh what the heck. As long as I've drawn attention to myself I may as well ask. I was actually interested in possibly adding a puzzle to your puzzle series @Mithrandir. I'm new to this so no hard feelings if you don't want fresh meat on your fun series, but I think I fun a idea for a puzzle.

@Tumbler41 I'd be interested in hearing your ideas!

Do you usually hash out ideas here in chat, or do you have a more confidential place for that?

He whisks you away

If you like, I can set up a chat room later, and we can discuss it there - it's a bit hard on mobile to look up what the next one is supposed to be and create a room

7:48 PM
Ok

ooh @Mith decided to change again

Hmm? I had tried to have a different profile on each site, but I clicked the wrong button so now I'm Arwen everywhere.

I suspected that would be the result, congrats to them and good luck in the future!
@Mithrandir you came third in the election, unlucky :)

:) ):

Rubio got 132 votes, Gareth 125, Mithrandir 112, Glorfindel 72...
Close!

If we suddenly need another mod, it's not unusual to just pull up the runners up from the last election.
@BeastlyGerbil wow, that's really close

you lost by 13...
very close indeed
Only 397 voters :/
Was hoping for 500

8:11 PM
Yeah that was a little surprising and disappointing.
Well - let me say - thank you all for the congratulations (and votes!). It's truly an honor and privilege to serve, and I hope I will represent well.

[confetti, again]

And well done to all the candidates :)

So... anyone have ideas what sort of "object" or "object left behind" can be considered pure energy?

@Rubio I think you got the votes (including mine) for a reason, so well done, and prove us right! :)

Congratulations @Rubio and @GarethMcCaughan, enjoy your time in the Blue Man Group

8:13 PM
@MikeQ an electron ?

@BeastlyGerbil I'm referring to the active CCCC. Def is probably either "object", "object left", "object left behind", or "me".

imagination maybe = 'i'

@Rubio (I voted for you.)

@BeastlyGerbil 8 letters. My theory is that it means "object" as in "goal" or "aspiration".

but why the note in that case?

@Mithrandir (we have something in common! hehe)

@Rubio you also voted for Rubio?

@PuzzlingMeta I love how the election result summary doesn't display the new moderators.

@ffao No idea. Alconja said that the clue isn't necessary for the solution.

@GentlePurpleRain Clearly clickbait.

8:37 PM
Now I'm curious about what's going on in Puzzling Overlords.

Ancient initiation rituals.

You'll notice that Rubio has temporarily lost the ability to speak.... :P

Going to take some getting used to seeing those two names in blue now...

Gareth isn't blue yet

@Rubio shhh! Don't reveal the sekrits!

hehe
It's Just Weird, I tell you

You're going to have to refrain from closing as much as possible now too :P

@Rubio read through all of /help/mods first

well I'm off to bed. Make sure that by morning @Rubio has used his new powers to turn this place into a desolate wasteland.

@BeastlyGerbil night!

I will do my best er... wait

8:53 PM
I still have no idea what flags are for

You fly them at half mast when bad things happen.

Q: Three-dimensional snooker

ruffleBert practises potting snooker balls on an elliptical table. I'm feeling somehow blue.
But curiously not looking blue.

hey, not fair! You're blue.

Try refreshing?

@GarethMcCaughan you have to accept the mod agreement

9:31 PM
Yeah - that

I don't see you as blue either
oh right, yeah
mod agreement

ah, there's a contract to sign in blood. Gotcha.

Yeah. Doesn't matter whose blood you use, though

It's electronic

it's OK, I have no shortage of blood.

Oh, I switched your parent chat user.

@Deusovi I hear it gets awkward when you have to do the yearly signing again and the original body is no longer at hand.

aha, now I'm blue

It had been SO.
I changed it to Puzzling.

does that mean I have magical mod powers in chats where I otherwise wouldn't have?

9:33 PM
neat. This whole page is now by blue peoples.

(wow, there's so much I don't know)

@GarethMcCaughan Yes

@GarethMcCaughan Yup!

The Puzzling community is pretty small. The blue fraction is going to be pretty large.

@Rubio Yeah, I should probably find that in the next week or two.

9:34 PM
@GarethMcCaughan you're welcome

black person passing by to say hi

"That" being something completely unrelated to the contract, of course.

@ffao thanks. Some of my best friends are black.

... I was waiting for something fittingly .. well... ^^ that.

I don't think I actually said thanks @Mithrandir, so thanks.
