5:01 PM
Ok yeah I'm just gonna kill that one
sorry to anyone who spent time on it
CCCC: College teens oddly follow whore: internet story for children?! (9'1, 3)

what was the answer?

I wasted all of my Saturday morning that I didn't spend on it

this new one amuses me

erm okay

My Mom/Sister are in your part of the world Gerbil :O

5:03 PM
On holiday?

More or less

Picked a bad time. Its raining.

Isn't it always?

The prior clue was: state (MODE) + lacks leading spokesman (-oRATOR)

haha, I was just thinking of the same thing @n_palum

5:04 PM
They said it's been okay with the weather

Well technically if thats the rule for a 'bad time' Its always a bad time yes

They seem to be enjoying it so far
I want to visit someday.. Amongst a few other places

CCCC: Charlotte's Web, C+Harlot+TeEnS+Web

nice job
enumeration did half the work, I bet :)

5:13 PM
it was pretty helpful

once I saw harlot in there I couldn't unsee it. lol
oh awesome! pi!
I love pie

CCCC: Ink, let spun a yarn, says too much. (10)

mmm pie

yeah I'm back wow
I feel like half of the time I spend on puzzling SE is spent ignoring cryptics because I can't do them

You can run, but you can't hide

5:23 PM
Cryptics: they're everywhere you want to be.

no not really
I mean, I tend not to find em in places like the ice cream store

YOU'RE NOT LOOKING HARD ENOUGH ;)

:O
where am I supposed to find cryptics at an ice cream store?

Bumpy path to ice cream flavor (5,4)

in the ingredients
ROCKY ROAD

5:25 PM
uhhhhhhhh is the answer to that cryptic Choco late?
:P
I feel like "Most prolific author/solver" on GPR's statistics sheet should be changed to "Has the least of the life"
It'd give us another excuse to yell at Rubio, at least

Fancy shampoo (5)

I hear blackboard pastels au lait make delicious ice cream flavor (9)

CHOCOLATE \^o^/

hehe
What's yours supposed to be, CREAM (ddef.) ?

Nope but it is ddef

5:31 PM
well yeah i figured. hehe
i got nothin' for that

This is the 458th CCCC. Its been going on for ages noe!

SUAVE :P

ohh.

here

suave isn't really fancy, but yes - point taken. I thought we were still in the ice cream shop though ;)

5:34 PM
imma try making a cryptic
a truck with plants drunk without water or ice cream (7)
it's so awful, but idc

(Smooth shampoo - that would have been better)

Molasses nut ice cream! (6, 5)
Ohh probably

Butter pecan ez

@awesomepi VANILLA

ye

5:38 PM
wait, how is that vanilla?

I don't know how you get ILLA but I got van

I probably broke a cryptic rule or something
LILAC drunk without water (sea/C)

yeah you broke at least one, but it's ok

coolio

you need an anagram indicator
oh wait drunk was

5:40 PM
isn't drunk an anagram indicator
yeah

Drunk is

Indirect anagrams are a Bad Thing - if you're going to anagram something the thing you anagram has to actually be there, not something that means (or adds up to) it

^ that was the no no

oh okay cool
so

and "water" for "C" isn't really clean either

5:41 PM
yeah
that was a
er
liberty
:P

(you also lost the plural of plants magically somewhere, another liberty hehe)

shush

my first attempt was completely broken, yours at least was close :)

eh that's not my first attempt
it's more like my third

same diff hehe
now if I just had any idea what Sconibulus was doing with the CCCC ...

5:53 PM
I think def is says too much
Could be wrong

yeah I'm assuming "ink let" is anagram fodder for "spun", a yarn is a story/tale/lie/..., and 'says" is either a distracting connector or a homophone indicator, with "too much" the def -- but that's entirely speculative

Hm..

not that it helped me any, but - 'ink let' anagrams to TINKLE

INK LET* can be TINKLE

hi :)

5:58 PM
Haha

nice

tinkletale is obviously the answer

obvi

Oh if we could somehow get TATTLETALE that'd fit kind of?

oh
ink = tat
let* is tle
yarn is tale
and done

6:01 PM
Wooo

I thought it was TINKERBEL :P

@Sconibulus

that was sarcastic please don't kill me

That's only 9 not 10 sooo :P

how is let, tle?

6:04 PM
"let spun"

spun is an anagrind
The archive needs some updating.. I'll get to it in a bit if no one else does

oh

6:20 PM
@Rubio We are probably right, but I guess we can wait on Scon's confirmation.
Regardless, the archive has been updated.

6:41 PM
I really don't think there's much doubt that TATTLETALE is the intended answer.

CCCC: Speed contest, led by Turbo at first; victor at finish is a Blizzard hero. (6)
I reaaaally need to rebuild my CCCC bank

6:57 PM
my bank is a work xD
Hi Gareth btw

VTC: primarily opinion-based, as the puzzle asserts I would ever stand in close proximity to Deusovi and Boboquack. ;) — Rubio 18 hours ago
lol - ^ that has 10 upvotes

It was funny :P

oh my.

Are you sure "Sonic" is correct?

that's what my "oh my" was.

7:09 PM
Oh and Deus is here
Heyo

that should have been Turbo, sorry
can you edit that?

no need - the solution is T + RACE + R

it is, of course.
But for the archive, can you fix please? heh

Done!

Thanks

7:11 PM
"Here comes, T-racer"

haha
and GAmen to you @Deus :)

"Keep calm, and Tracer on"

first 120 hours: 372
TOTAL VOTES CAST: 416 372 (at 114 hours)

7:29 PM
so I have a question - does everyone see the star board pins in the same order? I have, top to bottom: the CCCC description pin; the "Speed contest" CCCC clue; the "election chat" pin; Gareth's "downvote eight"; my youtube link; Emrak's "THREE YEARS?"; Alconja's "Wait, I think ..."; ffao's "less waffle", Scon's "purple rain"; and my "Deus is more machine than man" - does everyone see them in that order?

@Rubio on mobile, but if I click to see the stars yeah, that order

Yes

(and I normally only see 4 things on the board when I'm on my laptop)

4?? how small is your window?
or are you just in a ton of chats?

i see 10

7:35 PM
I'm in like 16 chats, but I only see two on the side usually. I have a pretty small screen.

my "craptop" usually shows me at least 8, often 10. with the election chat stuff it has less room currently.
anyway. we're slowly closing in on last election's total votes cast
I think at the end I'll change the hour# lists to all the primes, just for giggles

Q: Vague Function Puzzle

FrpzzdHere are a few fun mathematical puzzles having to do with unknown functions. If $f(x)=xf(x^2-7)+x$, then what is $f(2)$? If $g(x)=g(2x-3)+g(3x-2)$, then what is $g(-1)+g(-5)+g(7)$? If $h(x)=\frac{h(x^2-4)}{h(x-4)}$, then what is $h(\frac{-7+\sqrt{17}}{2})$? If $j(x)=j(3x)+\frac...

@Rubio ^that's what it looks like ATM, default

CCCC: Perceptive small protectors of the forest carrying me (8)
(apologies for the delay)

You are not forgiven

To replace the tag riddle with cipher ! Why is everyone asking weird questions here i stead of answering the question ? — Trevor 5 hours ago
....what?

We've already had a discussion about that

8:43 PM
*looks through transcript*

They weren't aware of edits, and didn't understand some of the comments.

I see

in CCCC, I think "protectors of the forest" refers to F and T

that would be unusual, but barely possible
1,213px × 618px - that's gotta be the weirdest random sized window ever. :)

Why unusual :/

8:50 PM
@Rubio mine?

Are you having a problem with your keyboard?

That would be a convenint excuse
(misspeling on purpose)
The only prolbm is that my finger bones' connected to the keyboard bones.
Sooner or later connectologists will solve it.
Happy daze diet
