Q: Another combination lock

user157860Suppose we have a combination lock with n= 3 dials each with K= 8 digits: ordinarily it would require 8^3 = 512 moves to be sure to open it, but the lock is faulty and will open when only two digits are in the right place. So if the code is 738 it will open with [7 3 x], [7 x 8], [x 3 8] i.e. ...

agreed
actually
it also asks about a general formula in the last sentence

hm?

is that enough for it not to be a dupe?

The bulk of the question seems to be the same. I won't modhammer it though - I'll let other people vote.
Oh, problem solved.

Thank you for the music videos, @Mithrandir! First I hear the music, then glimpse the message.
Here, muscophorically, is the other side of the mirror recently:
(By the way, the scenery behind youtube.com/watch?v=KgBazthb_kY will be one of my first returns now that I have the means to travel again. What a slelection!)
(Gotta hear the bass part, whether on headphones or on speakers as if neighbrs were deaf.)
Spent the day (with help) clearing 20-odd years of overgrowth and became too exhausted to resist coming here.
Weeds, scrub, bramble, fennel and trees.
That's both literal and figurative.
Everything pleaches, one way or another.
After all that outdoor work, after all the indoor work here for the last couple of years, my arms look like I was in a catfight.
Included were the most deliciously barbed blackberry vines and the most beautiful rose bushes.
Again, both literal and figurative, both there and here.
Couldn't've said this until the parallels met.
Dear diary!
...trying to focus on C... how many hard fruits do we know? Then again, how many fruit cores do we know that are hard? Pit? (Sorry if redundant, haven't scrolled up.)
Still behind? Okay, so it's an anagram of "Mediterranean" without the K. ???????????
Wihtout the M! Hello anagramsolver.com.
"nditerraneae"? Nailed it.

(thank you!!!)

Rephrased and resplit: First the impression, then the music, the an aura of the message.
You'c'd think it would be in a different order.
Repeat:
If you're still here, Mithrandir, did you catch what i was referring to about the background to youtube.com/watch?v=KgBazthb_kY ?

10:03 AM
No, I must have missed it, sorry

It could be called "badlands" or "canyonlands," but i'd swear i've been exactly there.
And will be back.
And hope to find other places like it all over the world. Where i found them was at the Colorado/Utah (USA) border. Any earthview would get there.

Cool!

Where there looks like there's so much order without any life or any chance of getting there.

And YouTube has figured out that I like movie music, so here's another one

But when you're actually there, life is everywhere and a way to get anywhere even with a wheelchair.
All it takes is a day's worth of supplies.
And some luck.
And, frosting on the cake, the landscape colors are nonstop sunset/sunrise.
(I was born in subthermal monochrome but feel most at home in the warm shades, even when freezing.)

Oh, @lauir, thanks for the bounty! I never got to thank you properly the other day

Others should've thanked you more too, @Wen1now!
I always start at the minimum bounty.
There are still one or two holes where I'm double checking, but you got the best ones!
There's little correlation between effort and recognition.
Moreover, between recognition and reward.

What was the saying? "It's all about the journey, not the reward" or something like that
I'm just making up sayings now aren't I

preanderthols? What does that mean

(bad recording, sorry)
(and I do NOT believe that monkeys are any less evolved than humans! It was an excuse to put up that music)
SERIOUSLY: Every life form here today is equally evolved.
Keeps me humble.
Otherwise we wouldn't be here!
... but the meaning "preanderthols" up there was meant as reference to those who've been around so long they have no need for a place like this.
I needed a place like this while I was stealing puzzle books from my elementary school library.
Much more fun stealing a moment here out in the open.

Q: The head chef and the mad king

rybo111There's unrest in the royal kitchen. The king has lost his mind. The head chef tells his cooks his one wish: to stop the king from bullying him once and for all. Most of the stuff I've put out here is a love poem to someone I've known. Sometimes because they would've been impressed. Sometimes else.
They'll never see them.
They're unattributed.
They're not even worthy.
On average.
Dear diary!
Stealing a puzzle book from a library is very much like posting a puzzle here. Will I get away with it?
(Mmmmhm, I'll stop talking about stealing books from libraries.)

[^ all kinds of system fv^s]
It's a poem dressed in an obnoxious dance beat. Unless you like to dance.
Truly, ^, that's what happens when someone with a poem meets someone with a beat.
I knew someone like that. She was the smartest person in town and didn't know what that meant.
And I was (still am) in love.
(still was, I guess, manner of speaking)
(as if anyone asked)
I told her she was the smartest person around.
She shied, "what about you?"
I said, "you heard."
!
I was quoting the song, because she didn't know what it meant.
Get it?
Now you're the smartest person, and it don't mean a thing years later.
After she rebuffed me I told her, in writing, that for the first time my car was running better than I.
She and I knew how to get under each others' skins. That was the third close call among five.

Sid
2:03 PM
@lauir What were the other two close calls?

We took the same bus to school, we were in the same band and orchestra.
We lived 6 blocks from each other. Ahhh.
Later on it was more distant.
Twice.
Bad timing all those times!
Heard of the collaboration between Rimsky-Korsakov and [don't remember and won't dig it up]? It's supposedly for trombone.
She played cello, I played euphonium.
We wound up in bed, again, but the chemistry, for the fifth time, just didn't spark.
The love and caring was everywhere.
We were two people in the most tender control of their feelings.
But when the sparks don't ignite, the puzzle remains open for someone else.
. . . sure glad that was anonymous . . .
@Sid, don't you have better things to do than to embarrass me?
I don't.

Sid
2:19 PM
@lauir I do. It's called sleeping. But, I just got up now. So, don't want to do that again

@Sid , thanks for stilling them memories nonetheless.
You get under my hide in many ways.
. . . to try and recompose, that's what were here about, to hide and seek.
. . . there's a whole other realm, to hide unsheathed.
.not "unsheathed," sorry, "undetected."
little difference, but all the difference.
Anyone here slunk around undetected? And sheathed? Hands up.
I always went unsheathed.
Nobody pulled a weapon on me because they never got close enough.
Until my car was unregistered.
Don't let that happen to you.
See how adversity can squeeze out creativity?
Don't let it happen to you.
Play it safe. Don't be creative. Resist adversity. Dare nothing. And you'll never be arrested.
That was a shitload of pablum! All nutritious. We're sunk. (I do have constructive ideas but just happened to watch every outlet that others might. Ooooooooooooooooo.)
(It hurts)
No intervention? This has nothing to with the latest puzzles here. Just a slide to worldwide puzzles without solution.
We won't solve every world problem instantaneously with our numbers, and there is no clear solution, but there's a ripple effect.
(oyoyoyoyoyooyoyoyoyoyoyoyooy, not paid for,)
(I'm hoping for something better than possible. The thing on the brochure.)
(That's what i was promised.)
(diddleydidddleydlddleyddley, back to earth:)
Hear how every strum asks a question and the other two strings scramble for an answer?
Third-hand knowledge. Might as well be (has been) an inspiration for a P.
Didn't find it. Third hand knowledge is akin to autismism. I'm autistic to the extent that I take in more than I reveal.
But third hand knowledge takes that to another extreme. Any help?
(For someone autististic one struggle is to let others know. This place allowed me.)
(I still assume that everyone is equally supported and filtered, at once, by what is input. And then to assume an output, what a thrill!)
(not gonna edit that, much as I want, figure it out)
. . . ossifer, if something else had been on the road I'd never jumpstarted that car . . .
(Not the clearest reproduction. Listen closely and figure it out, solver.)
. . . . .
That really brings up (again?) a distinction.
There's a Venn diagram of puzzlers, solvers, and thrill-seekers.
Are we clear on those terms?
Puzzlers do that.
Solvers do that.
Thrill-seekers am I, but I dare to tread others.
As such, I imagine that some solvers are puzzlers in disguise, and likewise.
Actually, I only seek thrills here. Otherwise I'm at most a curiousity seeker.
Truly those other places were curiously deadly. Live here to tell.
Here, though, we can construct cliffs full of clue effluent and leave it for others to enjoy.
(Say that ten times with marbles in your mouth.)
I'm forever lost in the canyonlands (Colorado/Utah border; don't go there without a BLM map), where every cliff looks impossible.
And now you know all my geotropic secrets.
My maps are more than 1m by more than 1f and came from visiting the drawers at the USGS. If you can make anythhing comparable (and up to date!), see you there!
If you go during daytime, nothing to worry about.
Either the road is open or it's closed.
(Unless you want to live to tell. Still can't believe it.)
But the whole point is the view in the morning! I really must go back to help even out the odds. 3 were at night, 1 was by daylight. Please, remember, don't try this at home!
(looking for a picture to see why i even tried)
(the best one is somehow protected)
(and that doesn't even show the snowlined mountains all around)
It is the least most undersold place in the world!
Don't go there until I have another chance.
Would hate to see it ruined
... but if you do go, get an up to date BLM (Bureau of Land Management) map.
See you there!
Signed, one who was there for more than a decade, one who's still there in every way.
The place is human scale! You can go anywhere you want, one way or another, without gear.
Water and sunscreen being the only recommendation.
. . . a little more down to earth, that brings back some razor-thin memories.
Summation: I wound up with a van that held ground with a bed more than once. Kinda near the picture above, at night.
(Failing to recount the most harrowing times while dozing off to a heater and a feral cat that won't go back outside. Goodnight, and thank you for the lullabies, @Mithrandir!)

4:12 PM
Oh hey lauir is back

@thecoder16 is back! (caught me on the downslope)

"All you who sleep tonight
Far from the ones you love,
No hand to left or right
And emptiness above -

Know that you aren't alone
The whole world shares your tears,
Some for two nights or one,
And some for all their years. " -Vikram Seth

Tickle! That is ripe!
Zat yours?
.... ononono, you attributed it.
. . .
It's more than ripe.
I sleep in the same bed, without another unmentioned [no rhyme, despite the spelling]. And there, pushing my spread, is (Head)Butter(head), instead.
(Head)Butter(head) is a feral cat that just took over everything. Even rearranged the furniture, if you can imagine.
Have head, butt!
When I brought the poor headbutter home from the neuteraliszer, the danger woke up too early and scarred his head by trying to break out from the hate-to-admit-it cage.
So i released him and saw a tranquilized cat stumble out to freedom. "You're free!"
Two or three years later the dinger-danger seems to remember me as the one who set him free rather than the one who caged, confined and carried him to a day of abuse.
May it happen to you.
Two years later, I just love feral cats.
All they need is food and water.
(I also love most dogs, don't get me started)
Feral cats come in to say "you're my food and water dishes" and then they either sleep cuddled up or disappear to make messes that nobody will find.
If you can figure out a feral cat, or a dog, the odds are on your favor with another human.
I haven't figured out any birds, though a couple of friends have.
A couple rats figured me out.
They got me to feed and water them, and even let me name them.
Seriously, if you don't have a feral cat trying to rip your house apart from the inside, consider a domesticated rat.
Spoiler: Cats and rats don't care what you name them. (Dogs do care.) It's a function both of hearing parameters and interest.
Everyone with ears hears emotional intention. Take that for granted. . . . - - - '
And if you're not into kittycats . . .
