@rfusca Just did not want it to end up getting posts that were not purely archived theme ideas. I guess it doesn't necessarily need to be locked, but it shouldn't really be a discussion.
@RowlandShaw yo?

A: How does the lens diameter influence photo quality?

Michael schettlIf the aperture of both lenses is relitive to the diamitor of each lens then the determing factor of which lens lets more light get to the sensor would be its length. If both lens are the same focal length and the smaller lens is 30% smaller in diamitor as well as 30% shorter in length than all t...

^-- In the case of quality here, I think the only thing we can really do is down-vote, and get it pushed to the bottom. A comment about being clearer might help, but thats about it.

hi @jrista

5:23 PM
hello...

5:43 PM
what's it mean.. when it says 'White Box', when the product is listed

1 hour later…
6:47 PM
@fluf hello :) sorry i was off and on the whole day

7:04 PM
@ShutterBug uhu :P and then I leave and everyone appears
@garikapati "Note! White Box merchandise comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's colorful packaging. It still includes all the manufacturer's accessories."
:)

@fluf as if by magic?

@RowlandShaw exactly :/
we're going away the weekend :) so hopefully the weather will play along

Anywhere nice?

west coast, langebaan :) a nice small town on the atlantic
~130km away
I just looked at the iso comparisons of the 5dm3 and the D4 and I have to say Nikon wins again

Hope the weather behaves then

7:15 PM
yeah seems partly cloudy tomorrow sunny saterday and 31 degrees on sunday :/ It's going to be a scorcher
overall looks like it's going to be nice
I would've liked it if they said whether the read noise was less in the 5d than previous versions

@fluf thx . is It Ok to buy white box item ?
do I miss anything....

@garikapati I don't see why not, it's just cheaper packaging. I think my 50mm came in one as well.

thank you..
My friend bought Canon Rebel T3i body only,
he is looking for a lens....
I can't lend him mine, 'cas I have Nikon

ahh cool :) my dad has that lens he's quite happy with it.

I never used Canons so, would 18-135 a good fit for him
btw, he is new to SLR thing...

7:23 PM
yeah I would think so, a nice range for one lens :) and the T3i is a nice camera as well

I know it's a generic and not encouraged byt photo.SE, but...any other recommendations for T3i

@garikapati recommendations like?

lens
is it good to having one lens for all purposes or going 18-55, 55-300 route is better for him

oh eventually get a 50mm prime it's a fun little thing and it's very cheap

@fluf yeah 50mm always fun to have....

7:29 PM
@garikapati personally I'd rather go with the 18-135 than the 18-55 especially for a beginner
awesome! tell him congrats, and definitely tell him to get a faster lens when the kiddo starts running around :)

@fluf that made the conclusion. I want to get a second opinion ...
you made my day
he will become a father in a month....... ;-)
that's the reason he bought a good camera..

:|dammit why does this chat keep editing my post
awesome! tell him congrats, and definitely tell him to get a faster lens when the kiddo starts running around :)

@fluf would that be a 50mm or any other EF mount lens ...?

50mm should be fine but it will depend on his preference as well, you can search on the site there are a couple of questions about what lenses are good for taking picture of kiddies running around indoors

Ok I will
I should introduce him to this site...

7:35 PM
you should yes :)
ok night i'm off to bed
night

does white box items have original manufacturer warranty..?
k night man.....

7:53 PM
@garikapati If it's bought via a legitimate means
(i.e. not a grey import)
Usually they're just kits that have been split, which is fine

@RowlandShaw I normally like buying either from BhPhoto or Amazon
my friend was looking into ebay, which I don't have a good feel.....

8:38 PM
@garikapati I personally don't advocate eBay, but some people swear by it
Although, in fairness, I did get my last film camera from eBay, and it was fine :)

we've got a couple of questions about kids photos for parents
and it boils down to flash and then a fast lens like a 35mm or 50mm f/1.8 (or 1.4)

Q: Prime lens or flash: which upgrade will most improve baby photos?

JohnI current own a Nikon D5000 with kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) and am looking to take better indoor photos of my fast-moving 9-month-old, which sometimes come out blurred or not natural I use the on-camera popup flash. I believe to overcome these issues in an ideal world, a fast prime and a direc...

8:52 PM
@rfusca Thanks, I will refer this to my friend

@garikapati yw

Can anyone lend me some graphic design inspiration?

@RowlandShaw i would, but I'm outta here.

9:15 PM
hey

Evening

how do

Not bad - you?

yeh good thanks

Feeling at all inspired?

9:22 PM
umm, no? you?

no, hence on the lookout for someone who is :P

lol
inspired about what

Want an icon to represent recruitment

@jrista Uh, that makes no sense. Downvoted and commented.

9:26 PM
heh

you're becoming a slave trader?

Nah, just toying with something

hmm
icons are tricky
just got for something completely off the wall and then make up some profound bullshit about it, that's what marketing firms do

Can't get away with that, as I'm the client :)
well, kinda

lol
i suppose that depends on how prepared you are to lie to yourself

9:34 PM
Need a few more personalities for that
If I come up with something, you might notice it on high-wycombe.angle.uk.com :)

what the hell is that
there are already at least 2 significant recruitment agencies in wycombe

That is a community website to help local people :)

never heard of it

there are a "few" sister sites

lol
just a few
is this your doing?

9:38 PM
it all started with www.didcot.com and www.ipswich-angle.com :)
I "may" be involved

hah
it is a bit ... busy?

I'm knocking some ideas together to simplify it

i suppose keeping it funded with ads but keeping it clean must be a tricky balance

actually looking to strip ads right back
Fund in "other ways"

selling yourself again?

9:45 PM
well, www.showhomeart.com is going to be sponsoring some form of competition later this year

oh?

Need to figure out what the prize'll be first :)

lol

10:04 PM
just want to alert you all that I'm soliciting questions to ask photography educator Tim Grey until tomorrow morning (New York time). He's agreed to do a crowd-sourced interview for me to put up on the blog, and I'd like to get the interview completed and posted by the end of next week. Submit questions here:

Q: What would you like to ask Tim Grey?

LauraI met Tim Grey, a photographer, author and educator a few weeks back, and he expressed some interest in this site. He makes a living teaching people photography, so I had initially thought it might be fun to do a chat event with him - a sort of live Q&A that also allows for some tangential co...
