I'm in your internets stealing all your copyrighted images.

@Alan isn't that why it was invented?

@mattdm indeed.

Q: Possible Conference Speaking Sponsorships -- 2011

Jeff AtwoodWe're evaluating the feasibility of sponsoring a member of the photo community to speak at a conference in 2011. Speaking is a relatively big "ask", so this needs to be planned many months in advance. Let's get started! We'd like the community to establish where ... What relevant photograp...

wow.

4:35 AM
awesome

4:58 AM
I preemptively refuse all nominations for myself.

I'd do it if the community wants me to, but I don't consider myself to be qualified

Never thought I'd say this, but sometimes my pop-up flash is just too powerful.

7:03 AM
when you're trying to use CLS in a dark room, and you want to get some of the ambient light
I can notice the effect 15+ feet away at f/2.8, ISO 3200
yeah it's only about 2 stops down

7:41 AM
hopefully this should help the problem: amazon.com/Nikon-SG-31R-Panel-Built--Flash/dp/B000E1G0LI/…

well I think somebody like Jay would be great. Professional in the business, active in the site, generally well spoken. However the guy just had a baby and has a active business.

Rowland maybe?

@EvanKrall You can also use the filter materials here amasci.com/amateur/irgoggl.html to cover just the built-in flash. I've tried this and it works well. The difficulty is attaching it in an elegant way.

@cabbey matt grum? swpp.co.uk/convention

4:10 PM
@rfusca Would need to find a suitable conference first, I guess

4:23 PM
@JayLancePhotography would be the best person, no doubt. Most conferences are in the summer, maybe he'll be able to by then.

Finally got the Electorate badge:-) 2 Golds!

@Pearsonartphoto congrats

6:15 PM
@mattdm I figure $15 isn't too steep of a price to pay to avoid duct-taping something to my camera

6:38 PM
Wow. I appreciate the votes of confidence. I'd happily go do something like that if the community supported it... The two shows that I'm most familiar with and are also the largest here in the US, anyway are already done for the year unfortunately... (PPAs ImagingUSA and WPPIs WPPI Las Vegas). I wonder if the SE folks would consider pushing it out until 2012, 'cause ImagingUSA is pretty-much the end-all as far as conventions go... Hmmm...
Actually, now that I've said it I'm not sure I could back up my 'largest' assertion for those conventions... It's really more of an assumption based on the membership levels of the PPA and WPPI. So if there's something bigger out there, I'm happy to be wrong on my claim. :-)

7:13 PM
@JayLancePhotography if you'd be willing to do it, i'd cast a vote your way.

7:35 PM
I just posted some initial thoughts on the meta thread. Short answer: if the community would be behind me going, and the opportunity was available, I'd be more than happy to go do something like that... Sounds like fun!

good deal
hows the kiddo?

She's doing great! Sleeping 4+ hours between feedings already, so the wife is actually getting some sleep. It's been a real joy so far...
Not to sound totally sappy about it, or anything. :-)

awesome
glad to hear it!
@JayLancePhotography sounds like its going great

7:52 PM
@JayLancePhotography nice! my daughter's almost 13 weeks, and is getting 5-6 hour stretches now!

@chills42, in case you haven't seen it yet: parenting.stackexchange.com

nice

it has potential.
wee bit of birthing issues right now, if you think folks get emotional on photos.SE, just imagine how it gets when you replace metaphorical children with actual children.

within the first week of public beta I think we had 2 calls for the site to be shutdown as a failure.

lol
@JayLancePhotography I dig the booth idea

@cabbey: You should have seen the sci-fi beta...

8:00 PM
I did. :(

It was insane, there was practically an all out war at one point in time.

only one?
I recall two
one over if fantasy was acceptable
and one over star wars vs star trek

Those weren't a war...
Those were just discussions really.

maybe those were enough to keep me away before the war hit then

Q: Are too many questions being closed by a moderator alone rather than the community?

Tony MeyerThe user Zypher has very little reputation, but is able to close questions without reaching the limit because he works for SE. By not letting the community vote (i.e. 5 of the top 17 users) it seems that he is taking away from the development of the community. Many closed questions are not even ...

8:03 PM
that and I quickly decided it was way too deeply geeky for me. :)

The title was revised at one point in time to be a little more PC.

oooh, that seems nasty

Is Zypher closing too many questions arbitrarily?
That was the original title.
So, the parenting site is actually going fairly well, all things considered.
It's just the SO fanatics who are complaining about the whole site, really.
They haven't accepted yet that SE can do a lot more than it's given credit for.

yeah
everyone that complained has high SO network rep

@EvanKrall I didn't use duct-tape; I used clear tape with careful folding. It actually looked pretty nice. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it thin enough so that the flash would latch closed.

8:23 PM
Some of the questions that were closed, I disagree with.
Like the Ashley judd TNG one

@Pearsonartphoto How so?

Just because you can find an answer by searching IMDB doesn't automatically make it a bad answer.

8:44 PM
@mattdm yeah I thought about doing that too
but the sg-3ir is pretty cheap, so I'm going to try it out

9:43 PM
Man, if @JayLancePhotography question (photo.stackexchange.com/questions/9326/…) wasn't about 5D's, I was wondering if it had something do with with this: petapixel.com/2011/04/15/… esp considering the guy @ 21 seconds looks a bit like him
but alas

10:02 PM
I wasn't happy about the Ashley Judd TNG question either, I know I voted to re-open that question.

10:31 PM
@rfusca - very cool production.

10:44 PM
just got a tokina 11-16
one of my coworkers posed

@EvanKrall nice

11:21 PM
mmmm..... waffles.

@EvanKrall hows the focus ring?
