I already knew that D&D draws innocent souls to the black magic and obscure arts, but this is even worse...
They are turning into web developers!
Flee, fools, before the darkest pits of the Abyss of SharePoint engulf you.
2
It is too late for me, but you can still escape

9:54 AM
@SPArcheon Wouldn't cause and effect be the other way around in your case?

10:10 AM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica You assume that I never played D&D before I started working on SharePoint?

@SPArcheon 'Assumed' is a strong word. But I had the impression that your engagement with RPGs at all is peripheral at most, while your engagement with IT seemed more established. I have no idea about the timing of individual products like SharePoint specifically.

my involvement with tableboard RPG is marginal now, in the past I did play for a bit.
That said I was stupid enough to go for the Eldritch Abomination of tabletop games.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica That is the one who shall not be named, and I don't think it even existed yet

Hmm. That makes it harder to guess what you refer to . . . Spawn of Fashan?

10:21 AM
Nope, I was talking of the ancient overlord of tables, the one which requires two hours and a master degree in math to play a scene that in-game lasts about 10 second....
the cursed....
If Fate is the harbinger of freeform and fun over rules... Rolemaster was all about "You have to suffer. To know how much throw 5D7 and check the table on page 666 of the Mental Damage and Curses add on book"

/me shrugs its pedipalps.
Everyone pursues fun. For some rules are fun, for some they are not.

Trust me, that went a little too far with trying to be "realistic"

@SPArcheon I used to have fun with Vehicles 2nd Edition (plus expansions).
And apparently there's a bunch of people having fun with the Deadly Spring.

Oh, sorry if I was a little over the top for the sake of satire then. I don't mean that it is universally bad.
Just over complex for the majority of players
back then it gained the nickname of "Rule Monster" for a reason.
That said, I think it was probably one of the few systems that you could technicallysin play SOLO since there were table even for exploration, encounters, plot elements and progression and so on...
You could probably play a somehow decent fully randomized game.

10:44 AM
@SPArcheon It's not the descriptions of rules abominations that concerned me, but the 'fun over rules' slogan. Sorry if I overreacted.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica What I meant is that the general idea that I got from many recent systems seems to be "These are the rules, if they create issues or you are having less fun because of them bend them as required".
Rolemaster almost seemed like the idea was instead something similar to "if the rules are getting too complex, too bad."

11:34 AM
@SPArcheon ha, nice
@SPArcheon I'm getting some Stack Overflow parallels

11:53 AM
@AndrasDeak not that much. On one side, it pretended to be "realistic" with thousand tables for a single action. On the other, it had some weird attempts at humor ranging from "Male Vibes 101: you are Conan" like the "eye pops like a fruit" line from the table you commented on to plain nonsense like "You tripped over an imaginary dead turtle"

Ah, false precision.

(note: this one could be from Merp, but Merp was Rolemaster with a Lord of the Rings coat)
> 51-65 "You lose your wind and realize you should try to relax".
While fighting a skeleton in the long forgotten tomb of Uth Varth, lord of the Dead and Pestilence
Want a cup of tea, Mr Skeleton? Maybe we could all sing this nice song instead of fighting...
.... Binkusu no sake wo, todoke ni yuku yo .....

12:24 PM
@SPArcheon I meant figuratively nice

12:42 PM
Sarcastically
