@AncientSwordRage cryptic reply:

lol
that's not the cartoon :P
although I guess it's supposed to look like a show sometimes XD

@trogdor ?

it's Veiwtiful Joe
for once I caught your reference
a friend of mine owned the game and I played some of it

it is Joe, and the reference was that basically we have the same brain.
so, very easy to hock me as easy as a Magicarp with some old Sentai stuff because of that retro style.
anyway @trogdor, to be fair THERE IS a Joe anime.

ah
fair enough

11:30 AM
@trogdor and obviously, totally different plot from the games.
Gotta love them dousing Fire Leo with a watering can

@Derpy Is . . . is that a live action or not? After the previous discussions I'm doubting my eyes.

it is
it's with rubber suits XD

12:13 PM

@AncientSwordRage That makes me think of Planeteers.

ooh yeah I liked that one actually
XD

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica it wasn't to much, but the same company made MiB, Extreme Ghostbusters and a few others
Looking at that picture it's got so many stereotypes

12:52 PM
I loved those cartoons

tbf stereotypes are extremely useful to cartoons. you've got a lot to say in a very short time, leveraging a stereotypes helps users catch on quick. (like "this skinny person with glasses reads a ton of books and knows a lot" or "this big person with a big chin is probably pretty strong and a bit of a dummy")
just gotta separate out the ones that are OK vs the ones that are not OK

@doppelgreener that is hard
@doppelgreener that is true
Not sure which ones each series gets right

A useful term here would be stock characters.

the hero, the strong&fat, the bookworm kid, the girl and the cool dude.

1:11 PM
Ah, the five-man band. Not immediately obvious which one is the hero and which one is cool though.
Also, having trouble retrofitting that quintet to ghostbusters, which seems to have two big guys.

1:30 PM
this would be trope territory rather than stereotype territory

1:41 PM
@doppelgreener yes
I'm talkin about the 'romantic interest' is a red head, the geek wears glasses, has a pony tail and is chubby. etc

2:39 PM
@AncientSwordRage does Pink qualify as a shade of red?

Technically does, but artists seem to often disagree.

(notice: I chose a Twitter avatar on purpose, so that if wold be harder to recognize the character :P)

@Derpy Alita Schaeffer

@AncientSwordRage Nope, that's clearly short hair version of Princess Bubblegum.

@Derpy are you questioning my google fu?

2:52 PM
@AncientSwordRage nope, I am using my Jedi tricks to make you confess you cheated and used Google

@Derpy google and I are one

@AncientSwordRage I hope Shadow is as good as you.

@Shadow10YearsWizard give them the ZX Spectrum port of Gladiator.... and tell them they get a prize if they beat it. Should keep them busy for a while.
there is a reason I suggested the Spectrum port :P

3:15 PM
you actually checked? :P

@Derpy no, but I thought it was a fairly non-commital emoji to send while I try and get this javascript test to work
I'm going to assume the port is impossible to defeat, maybe due to the fact the ZX spectrum code relied on memory/clock speed being exactly somethign, which wasn't accounted for in the emulator

3:31 PM
> The ZX Spectrum port of Great Gurianos used up so much memory that there was no room to include the ending. Dave Perry was forced to make the final boss undefeatable

@Derpy wow
so the reverse of what I thought

4:23 PM
@Derpy colour-shifted Rarity?
although, 'colour-shifted' would imply they were an MTG card

@Derpy heh

and obviously Pinkie consciences are little Rarity.
(atlas, to be fair, it makes sense in context)

it makes perfect sense

4:40 PM
well, she was the one who sent Pinkie there. To stop the noise.

but in general, they're fairly opposite in a lot of ways
but similar enough in otherways
when I made them into MTG cards, Pinkie was Red/Black and Rarity was Blue/Black

What rarity was Rarity?
(sorry, had to)

They were all rare I think? :p

@AncientSwordRage Pinkie Red/Black?
More like Red/Blue imho

When does she study/improve herself?
She hosts parties for others, but is often thinking of herself

5:02 PM
@AncientSwordRage ? you mean Pinkie?

yes
she does think of others, so she's not mono-black
her black traits are (minor) selfishness and her stubborness
Parties/Pranks at any cost

To be fair, the pranks one was Dash, and that basically stopped with a single episode very early.

as for the stubborn, yep, see old chat with vicky.
The point is that the character was intended to be severely hurt on emotional level, and thus resort to needing to have smiles around otherwise becomes depressed very fast.
It is quite evident early in the series, with some decent character growth moments now and then.
Problem is that later staff lost focus on that and on other characters and instead focused on simple "cozy slice of life"
Mind you, it was a cozy slice of life show from the start, but some elements had precise reasoning.

@Derpy hurt before the series starts?
I didn't watch past season 2-3
not sure if I agree with all of these any more

5:15 PM
@AncientSwordRage If you saw the first season, then you know the silly tale about a rock farm.
Which happens to be true and probably "embellished" for happy ending.
Either that, or the family got depressed AGAIN after she moved out to Ponyville.

@Derpy it's been too long to remember any details

Something that must have happened quite early if other episodes are to be taken into account
@AncientSwordRage she is the one who spent childhood cultivating rocks in a barren farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

@Derpy oh ok

@AncientSwordRage if you want, start here

First thing first. Pinkie is probably the most "anime" like character in the show, she indeed goes into extremes and exaggerations, but that is mostly done for laugh purposes. She IS the one character that is totally aware of the fourth wall, she is the one who defies physics, she is the one who often talks to the viewers directly.

5:40 PM
@Derpy thats interesting

ironically, the one you get to know the less about is Rarity.
Who is implied to basically expect that others act as generous as she does, not really because she is selfish or anything. It is just that she doesn't seem to even consider the possibility others would not be generous.
Despite having been tricked at least twice just in the show.
Fluttershy - it is quite obvious she comes from a childhood with constant pranks and jokes.
"Fluttershy can barely fly" is mentioned multiple times.

3 hours later…
8:26 PM
it's a really interesting cast of characters
