I got away with snark on my history homework
I hope
we’re doing a doc analysis worksheet and I wrote under “audience of document” that it wasn’t for historians since it was too exciting (it was the most boring scholarly article I have read and I read part of my mom’s and grandfather’s theses in elementary school)

[snrk]

1:27 AM
There were at least 2-3 more instances I removed before submitting it, but how else was I to stay motivated to do it? (If my history teacher ever reads this, I totally read the second half of the article and didn’t BS my way through it)

I like history XD
I read all my material for it in every class I took
it was one of the only subjects I literally never got anything under an A+ for
XD

@trogdor yeah, the avatar... it kinda gives that away, my loyal student. :P

Anyone good at the Victorian language of flowers? If so, how do you tell the receiver they’re an idiot?

@BardicWizard I'm googling, but can you give more details as to why they're an idiot?

@NautArch long story, but they made a bunch of bad decisions and endangered people by not wearing a mask.
I’ll just look it up (not trying to farm this out to anyone) since nobody knows off the top of their head

@BardicWizard ha! I'm interested now. Didn't even know about this!
this is fun, possibly rhododendron "I ne'er shall look upon the likes of him again"
Oleander? "beware"
Geranium? "lost hope"

3:22 PM
@BardicWizard Urtica, alternatively... ghost pepper.
Should at least teach them the importance of using adequate protection while working with dangerous stuff.
@NautArch Rafflesia, as in "this is less annoying than you"

Yellow carnations mean disdain
holly can mean aggression
lavender is defiance

Defiance seems like support of them

@BardicWizard Urtica means "now you know why you should use gloves" and ghost pepper is great at teaching "don't touch your nose/eyes"

disdain is probably your best bet. Unless you like Geranium :)

ooh, meadow saffron means “my best days are long gone”
Also narcissus means egotism
or self love

3:30 PM
hey, what you do on your own time is up to you

Opium poppy can mean death
Thistles are agression

holly and thistles?

what’s wrong with that?
(i don’t know what would be wrong, enlighten me)

I assume you both ended up on the same Reddit thread?

nope, i've just been googling
but it looks like sourcing of this data is important

3:40 PM

@Derpy nope, a book from my grandfather gave me

My hunch is that more recent people have coopted these and made up their own

Same post suggested gifting Nightshade....

Is floriography different than Victorian?

Probably, since it evolves

3:44 PM
Ah, yes. SO it started with general Floriography, and then the Victorians took it to new heights.
And continued to evolve. Which makes it pretty confusing.
Just found another that says Holly is defense and domestic happiness.
I'm not sure if there is a legit source for this :/

@NautArch Oh, yes, I am pretty sure that "Holy" is defense. Almost sacred defense I would say.

@Derpy hey-o!

@NautArch as for the source, sure there is a source, you just have to get the right books.
^ this one, for example :P

I’ve got “the language of flowers”, by Marthe Seguin-Fontes

hmm. Wonder where she sourced, because she looks like more of an artist.

3:55 PM
@NautArch ? who? the page?

@Derpy marthe Seguin-Fontes is an artist.
and made a book about 'language of flowers'.

There’s a pretty long list of sources on pages 150-151

@BardicWizard okay...just sayin that there seem to be a lot of different interpretations of the flowers
which makes any of them questionnable

@NautArch yeah, so it does

:(
or it makes all of them usable!

4:18 PM
I like that interpretation better

It just means that anyone can interpret whatever they want as they want. Kinda like astrology.

5:14 PM
Ooh, I just found that marigolds can be chagrin

5:29 PM
@BardicWizard search hard enough and you'll find what you're looking for :P

2 hours later…
7:56 PM
Lol

8:30 PM
I have created the bouquet of “I hate/disdain/don’t like you, and you should beware death and be chagrined” with the implication it is because they do not wear a mask
The center is a black rose (hatred), surrounded by 6 yellow carnations (disdain), surrounded by 6 repeats of a red hyacinth (sorrow) and a thistle (aggression), surrounded by 6 repeats of an oleander (beware), an opium poppy (death), and a marigold (chagrin)
If you like, wrap it in a mask to give it to someone

9:28 PM
lol
love it

9:56 PM
@BardicWizard I like this.

11:47 PM
I drew the bouquet of “I feel sharply negative towards you; wear a bleep-ing mask”

Ooh nice details.

"Flowers? How kind of you! *leans in for a hug*"

@AndrasDeak hands the bouquet over oleander-first
