An adorable video: Kitten rides its roomba-Uber

3 hours later…
11:13 AM
I started reading some Dresden files story yesterday. I don't know which one though.
...because I'm listening to it as an audiobook, because my SO listens to those to fall asleep.
The reader was talking about being a wizard, hunting for supernatural monsters around the city. "Huh, this sounds like the Dresden files", I thought.
And then she name-dropped "Harry Dresden"

but it wasn't from his perspective?

No, I listened to it somewhat half-heartedly, as I war trying to fall asleep
But it was some apprentice of his and apparently Dresden himself had died

11:48 AM
oooh
that book
that one is weird, but then again they all are
they just get weirder the further you get in, and that's one of the later books
I won't spoil it for you but there are some choices in that book for sure XD

2 hours later…
2:09 PM
The concept of Dresden Files piques my interest but I've kinda gotten an assumption it's not that great, dunno why

hello

2:28 PM
afternoon

how are you

o/
@kviiri The books themselves have some major problems that BESW and troggy would tell you about if you asked them. The original DFRPG has some systemic issues and is vying for the crunchiest available Fate game, but it's still playable and workable. The newer Dresden Files Accelerated RPG has some of its own issues; we playtested it and decided we weren't all that into it.

@Gwideon kinda worried about what Hasbro posted yesterday, but that is another story.
@doppelgreener Skelething is blue, not green :P

@Derpy what's happened?

Yes what did they post

2:42 PM
@Derpy doppelgreener is always green

@doppelgreener nope - remember yesterday when I posted this?
yesterday, by Derpy
user image

@Derpy i haven't been on here for the past couple of days, i've been sick

the still images looked quite cute....
then I saw the announcement trailer....

Oh no

it is quite cringe worthy at every level.
btw, if you follow the link to my other room, you will find some more comments I have made on that.
Short version:

2:48 PM
I'm trying to write and probably not doing a very good job.
I'm trying to convey a character is nervous around people because of her past experiences (due to being a tiefling)
I'm doing some major edits anyways but um yeah I fear I'm not doing well when it comes to this.
"She hated being around so many people as it caused this tense sort of dread to come over her. Who would be the next person to notice her horns or her skin. How badly would they hurt her before they drove her out of town."
um that's the couple of lines I'm worried about
sorry I'll stop

You're not doing anything wrong, no need to apologize

@Gwideon Have you considered subtle (or at least subtl-er, to the onlookers) indirect cues? Such as shifting her head slightly to put an obstacle between her and a stranger sitting in the tavern or the like?

@Derpy My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic GO?

@Yuuki To be fair, the original picture just seemed to use a chibi art style.
Which plenty of fan artist already did in the past.

@vicky_molokh I need to think about that. It's hard for me as I'm not a super experienced writer.

3:01 PM
Penguin Potential, for example
or, for EG, the Chibi Pinkie Pie.

Some ideas/examples:
- Shifting her head as already stated;
- Wearing a hood despite the environment being already warm and dark;
- Sitting among bags or sacks or otherwise obstacles that would help hide the tail;
- Being reluctant to meet new people for the *first* time, but being significantly calmer around strangers that haven't been found dangerous over the course of mere hours to a day;
- Preference for written communication, despite literacy narrowing down the possible circle of acquaintances.

considering that the EG Mini dolls lineup actually went for an "anime chibi" art style I assumed they were doing the same.
But the static promotional images does not match the very short appearance of the ponies in that announcement trailer.
@Yuuki it is close to the end of that small (official) clip, past all the horrible music, not really appropriate lyrics and somehow disturbing shaking doll head scene.
and to be fair, it gives me more Animaniac vibes than Teen Titans GO
But really, if you are interested in my comments, just follow the link to the other room. Posted plenty there and I wouldn't want to hijack this room too.

3:25 PM
I'm not really feeling inspired.
I honestly hate staring a blank documents
it feels so intimidating

@Gwideon At a risk of being laughed at by neurotypicals, I'll offer an overly literal solution to that problem: copy a thematically related piece of text (such as the paragraphs from this very discussion), and start editing it piece by piece, gradually replacing suggestions by your own implementations of those bits narrative, eventually throwing out all the pieces that don't belong to you and replacing them with yours.
At least as an experiment.

3:41 PM
@vicky_molokh might try that

2 hours later…
6:03 PM
@kviiri WHile the books definitely have some issues, I still enjoyed reading them.

3 hours later…
8:49 PM
@Gwideon Jon Rogers, who has written for TV shows, movies, comics, and RPGs, writes "DUMBEST VERSION" at the top of his drafts.

oh man
I wish I had thought of that

Also nyarara.

nice

9:23 PM
@BESW That's ... beautiful.

@Rubiksmoose Beverly Cleary wrote the entire book Ramona without naming the main character, she was just "Girl." As Cleary sat down to type the manuscript for her publisher, she needed to finally come up with a name.
At that moment one neighbour shouted "RAMONA!" to another, and so that's what she used.

@BESW hah!

@BESW my son just discovered her via Ralph Mouse. ANd I'd totally forgotten about those books and super excited he's into her

Also that is a fantastic Japanese word.
@NautArch Hearing that name brings back so many childhood feelings

@Rubiksmoose Beverly Cleary or Ralph Mouse?
:P
both for me!

user15026
9:27 PM
@NautArch awesome.

user15026
I love Beverly Cleary's books

Plan on a library trip this weekend to see which books they ahve of hers and if he wants more.

user15026
Love it.

I started with Henry Huggins.

user15026
I think I started with Ramona.

user15026
9:31 PM
The Ramona TV show was pretty good, pretty faithful to the books.

I haven't read much by Beverly Cleary... (If anything)

@BESW Man, imagine the find/replace mistakes that could have been made.

@NautArch Both!

user15026
@V2Blast her books are good at just like...showing children being children.

9:53 PM
hey is it just me or does anyone else find Gaelic to be a really kinda beautiful language to listen to.

I don't think I've actually heard Gaelic.

youtube.com/watch?v=gYEWEn0INuU. it's a song in Gaelic
though there is a distinction between Scottish and Irish Gaelic. also um I really wish I could learn languages. tried to learn a language but I wasn't very good.
sorry I'll shut up

10:30 PM
@Gwideon The song makes it sound nice, definitely. But as a foreigner, it makes me think that English and/or German can be adapted into a similar style of singing and made to sound about as good, due to how similar the sounds and their combinations appear to be.
