@Ben the international Zelda official sites doesn't even include BotW in the timeline....
The Japanese one... it puts BOTW on a different timeline altogether.
"after all the other games, after the timeline split... but separated from the rest"
So logical, much wow, very clear.
the game references LTTP, which is on the "fallen hero" timeline, the event from TP - which is child timeline and even WW which is on the adult timeline..
with such premises, I don't expect the game to try to turn into a "direct" sequel of any of the previous one.
It is intended to take place last, after every other game. But it doesn't follow any specific branch of the timeline split.... at this point the lore references to previous games are just exalted fanservice.
On an unrelated notice, I think we may at least have discovered what happened to Link's sister...

lol
it is very weird
"yes I save the world all the time, also I destroy private property to see if they are hiding money in it on the regular"
and it actually is surprising how similar those franchises are
though I guess there are really a lot of things similar to Zelda games

@trogdor Shantae is clearly a Gerudo.

I,... had not even considered that
that fits far too well

well it's not so different from what she normally wears but,.... what happened to having feet?
i'm pretty sure they still have those XD

@trogdor those are called "Nanako SOS feet syndrome".

11:21 AM
lol

Or, in more recent years "Power Puff legs"

and also arms
they didn't have arms either
but somehow I guess it wasn't,.... that weird at the time

...at least until you don't see too much PPGZ and then your brain starts to recognize the original as the "weird" version

Z?
err, hands
they have arms but not hands, whoops

11:25 AM
huh

@trogdor You really never heard about the PPG Z?

uh maybe vaguely?

Powerpuff Girls Z (Japanese: 出ましたっ!パワパフガールズZ, Hepburn: Demashita! Pawapafu Gāruzu Zetto, lit. They're Here! Powerpuff Girls Z) is a Japanese magical girl anime series directed by Megumu Ishiguro, based on the American animated television series The Powerpuff Girls. The anime is co-produced by Cartoon Network Japan and Aniplex and was animated by Toei Animation. The series features character designs by Miho Shimogasa, who was also the character designer of Cutie Honey Flash and Ultra Maniac, and one of the animation directors of Sailor Moon. Franchise creator Craig McCracken was not directly involved...
only 52 episodes.

but I think I actually was hearing about an American reboot maybe?

IMHO, they should have dropped the original art-style and keep this one :P

11:26 AM
I had heard there was more PPG something but that people hated it

@trogdor 2016 reboot yep
has all the defects you would expect

@Derpy I mean, I'm kinda nostalgic about the original art style but this is fine
@Derpy that seems about right in terms of timeline

that is also the one that introduced the fourth girl.
and it went horribly wrong.

fourth?
that's very ominous
XD

yep, in there reboot there is a fourth sister

11:29 AM
welp that's already pretty bad
I think we can stop this train right here
XD

she has a pretty sad story which seems to be a missmatch of Raven from the Teen Titans and Broly from DBZ
I mean, on paper it could have turned right...
A fourth sister that was lost and now is very emotively scared because of that COULD have been heartwarming....
but they didn't exactly handle it right.

I mean, I guess that it wouldn't be automatically bad
but it seems like an easy way to offend people who liked the original show
I realize that isn't necessarily the target audience but,... it's also still a potential burned bridge

nahh, that wasn't the problem...
Blisstina Francesca Francia Mariam Alicia Utonium, better known by the nickname Bliss, is a fictional character created for the 2016 series The Powerpuff Girls and made her first appearance in the five part television movie The Power of Four, which was released in 2017. The character was introduced as the older sister to the three original Powerpuff Girls, having been absent during all their lives because of running away when she lost control of her powers. She is portrayed as a teenager, being much taller and having wider hips than the other Powerpuff Girls, in different form the other three she...
^ THIS is the problem.
To quote Wikipedia...
> Despite this he felt that he was disappointed in the fact that the first non-white powerpuff girl had been introduced as an emotionally unstable time-bomb who isn't capable of putting her feelings together properly to act as a regular superhero like the others. He stated that the portrayal of black and Latina women as hot-headed is a stereotype he is all too used to seeing in media

oooooh
wow
yeah that's not very cool at all

Basically, the Derpy incident all again.

11:36 AM
XD
you were waiting to pull that one out

Had she had a worthy character ark with actual character development I guess one could have skimmed over the initial apparent bad choice
but the problem is that as far as I know it stays unresolved

that sucks pretty bad

she starts like that, she stays like that, she is seen pretty rarely
Had she been given some story like Terra from the Teen Titan "anime" (NOT the Terra from the comic that is almost 100% a different character exception made for the name)... she could have been saved

it's definitely,... something that seems like a problem,... if they bring her into the story and then she just shows up and leaves a lot and doesn't change
that's definitely something I would call a red flag

well, usual reboot syndrome I guess.
It is not like Ducktales didn't took its own set of weird choices with a character stuck on the moon...
but yep, the choices with Bliss were especially dangerous and you can see how it went.

11:48 AM
I can conjecture anyway
It seems like it was pretty unfortunate anyway

12:30 PM
on an unrleated notice... I think this monitor is going exhale its last picture pretty soon
I have had this nice smell of burnt hardware keeping me company since yesterday....

12:56 PM
ouch

> Toya Delazy acknowledged the criticism of the character, and stated that she believed the negative reception had not been as major as the positive she had received, as well as that she did not think of the character as meaning to imply or enforce any harmful ideas about black women and that her own feelings on it simply was that it was a cartoon that didn't need to necessarily be analyzed to that depth.
:/

:/
yeah lets just teach kids that the dark skinned girl is not as ok as all the light skinned ones
no need to analyze that at all

It always confuses me when people act as if media exists in some sort of bubble, with no effect on the real world or real people

10:15 PM
@V2Blast yep, that's definitely confusing
