12:18 AM
I've been watching the DC Titans TV series... man, Dick has issues! I've just seen the episode with the snarky imaginary Bruce Wayne.

8 hours later…
8:41 AM
@Adeptus blame Go.
Or at least, blame Go for turning that character feature into a meme

I blame Teen Titans Go for literally everything ever (not really but I do feel it was quite a step down from the origional show)

@trogdor the only usefull thing GO! did is the... Night Begins to Shine saga.
And.... wonder what, that is the one that is NOT drawn like the rest of the show.
as for the rest, the show is also famous for actively bashing the fanbase of the previous one.

8:56 AM
ugh
that's pretty bad then
I saw a couple episodes on a couple different occasions and I just found it,... completely mindless stuff
literally everything that happened had to be because of a joke and it just seemed very reductive
and I realize this isn't objectively bad but basically none of the episodes seem to have anything to do with what has happened before, there's no coherent continuity of plot

look, some episodes are decent, some can be actually even "good" (that said, IF you don't have anything better to do...)

I won't judge anyone who likes it but it's very clearly not my thing

There is an episode that keeps switching drawing genre in order to invoke the tropes of various animated shows styles.

and I did like the Teen Titans show
I honestly have nothing against the new animation or art style either
it's the writing I have issues with

@trogdor The art style, not my preferred one (it isn't even "chibi", just "plain") but at least it is coherent and not porly-drawn-on-purpose (Cow&Chicken, Ed,Edd and Eddy, Uncle Grandpa and so on).

9:04 AM
yeah I mean

The show is indeed aimed at being just silly with no storyline and/or ties to previous shows

I don't think it's anything special personally
compared to a lot of stuff
but it's not bad either
@Derpy I don't feel it has to have anything to do with previous shows but the silly no story line thing bothers me a little

There ARE some funny ideas. For example Raven's father usually is portrayed just as a father angry because his daughter doesn't want to follow his work career.

most especially because I felt like a lot of the jokes, which seemed to be most of the point of the show, were intentionally extremely immature jokes
now I realize these are for kids but you can make jokes for kids without stooping to that

And you get some weird episodes like him trying to get Raven into the Demon school prom dance.

9:08 AM
that's fair
I just,... I don't see a reason I have to watch even any of the "good" episodes if I don't feel the show as a whole is worth my time XD

@trogdor yep, that is one main issue. Toilet humor at its core, and that is usually for some reason paired with the "poor/oversimplied drawing style".... I don't know why but that seems to be recurring in the American shows I see.
I blame Cartoon Network

yeah I caught glimpses of some of the other shows airing right now on Cartoon Network,... not all are like that seemingly but a bunch of them are
I haven't seen anything as personally distasteful to myself as Go to be fair
( and it's not like I was looking all that hard either)
plus the only one I was all that curious about was Go, because of Teen Titans
I wondered how different it would be and it turned out,... it was very different in a way I didn't like XD

Well, not very common, mind you.
Without much thinking... Cow&Chicken and Uncle Grandpa are probably the two most obvious offenders for pure toilet level jokes.
A pity in a way for Uncle Grandpa because it also has that outerworldy jokes style that was very common with the original Pink Panther animated shows, so I always wondered what it could have been if it was "less immature"

9:37 AM
As for Titans....
Take a look here
There are at least FIVE episodes in Go! that are considered "Haters" episodes for actively bashing fans who don't like/criticize the new show.
"Let's Get Serious", "The Return of Slade", "Wally T" ,"The Fourth Wall" and "The Chaff".
And as for the last one... Taken from the wiki
> The episode is banned in Southeast Asia and RSEE due to gross content
Yep, managed to get an episode BANNED from airing.
Way to GO!.
(and yep, that one above is a very lame joke, I know.)
also.... take thing like this:
> "The Return of Slade" is has a Bait-and-Switch title designed to drum up interest from older fans of the original series. Slade never appears onscreen, and the Titans proceed to talk about how awesome the "three episodes and a made-for-tv movie" was, with Beast Boy saying "It's too bad nobody will ever see it"!
The rest of the episode is one big Author Tract involving BB and Cyborg getting upset that a clown they hired is too silly, so they turn it into a psychotic Monster Clown. Raven says that "Clowns are supposed to be silly because THEY'RE FOR KIDS!", and claims that the two of them a
since we are at "clowns are for kids", do we want to also add how there are TWO types of clowns, the one where you laugh WITH the clown and the ones where you laugh AT the clown?
If you are trying to do morals with a metaphor... at least choose a good one.
That said, the greatest "sin" in Go... is rewriting the adorkable version of Tera from the previous animated show.

I mean, also there are other ways to be silly rather than relying on the most immature humor you can drum up
I never saw Terra
in Go I mean
and it's fine to be silly too,... but if that is the exclusive extent to what you can manage in your show,.. I reserve the right to criticize that XD
I think kids need at least a tiny bit of seriousness in their media just like anyone else does

9:59 AM
@trogdor back to evil/insane.

just immediately?

yep, just portrayed as mentally unstable.

oh I hate that
just real smooth one there
I'm not a big fan of the "this person is just mentally unstable by default" trope

Again, I had the idea that was partially a joke and partially done out of spite to the fans of the Teen titans animated show version of Terra.
The fact that she lives most of the show in a place called "Trash Hole" where allegedly Raven banished her....
Would be a GREAT bash to the original show sudden termination (which some do attribute to Terra story arc annoying someone at DC) .... but is NOT

10:23 AM
@trogdor anyway, just to see the good side of all of this...
At least it is NOT the 4e "Red dragon interview".....
