A relatively recent suggestion to remove mentioning Mathematics was given in a comment here:

Q: How to make it easier to moderate blatantly off-topic questions?

GlorfindelAs many of you have noticed, there's a lot of new users asking basic mathematics questions. This is not the only site in the network with this kind of problem; on Meta Stack Exchange we get all kinds of random questions and dubbed those users 'lost souls'. A while ago I wrote a userscript to make...

A: How to make it easier to moderate blatantly off-topic questions?

Steven LandsburgI think ---though I have no data on this --- that posters who ask questions like this are extremely unlikely to do the work of rewriting those questions in a form that would be acceptable either here or at math.stackexchange. Moreover, I doubt very much that the pointer to the "How to Ask" page ...

The link to Mathematics is also in the standard close reason MathOverflow is for mathematicians to ask each other questions about their research. See Math.StackExchange to ask general questions in mathematics., that was my main motivation to include it too. They'll see that link sooner or later, and I thought it better to give them some guidance. — Glorfindel May 19 at 6:27
@Glorfindel: Yes, I'd very much like to see that standard close reason eliminated also, or at least used only sparingly for well-posed questions that actually would be appropriate at MSE. — Steven Landsburg May 19 at 10:22
This reminds me a bit of the previous discussion here: Homework and migrating to math.se. Of course, if there are some suggestions how the custom close reasons should be changed, one of the moderators recently asked for input from the MO users here: Revamping the closure reasons in 2022. — Martin Sleziak May 19 at 10:52
@Glorfindel that close reason is not to be used for the kind of questions we are talking about. I personally consider using it only if I'm confident that the question would fit math.SE if posted verbatim. — Denis Nardin May 22 at 14:05
@DenisNardin Of course, the other close reason ("This question does not appear to be about research level mathematics within the scope defined in the help center.") might lead the user to Mathematics - but in that case, they have to do a few more clicks and the link is much less prominent. (At the same time, if the user is willing to read help center here at MO, they are more likely to do the same on Mathematics.) — Martin Sleziak May 23 at 10:04

Q: New community close vote reason

Alec RheaWhile doing some cleanup on the home page just now, I noticed that we have a new community specific reason to close. The second option in the list is new, and leaves me slightly confused. While I understand that we don't generally welcome 'hey ckeck my paoer' or 'is this result new and groundbre...

This is the screenshot shown in that post:
Basically the same as the one I posted previously here:

> This question is either a request to check work for correctness or an announcement of results.
This close reason should be used if a question either is announcing new results or asks to verify a proof or a preprint. It should also be used in situations where the work to be checked is included in the text of the post itself.
