There are several posts on MathOverflow Meta which are basically just the question how the two (old) custom close options are different.
Should "Revamping the closure reasons in 2022" be at least mentioned in a comment to those questions?
Or should we go further and close them (or some of them) as duplicates?

Q: Custom closing link looks too much like it should be a migrate to MSE link

Benjamin SteinbergCurrently, one of the custom off-topic closing reasons is: MathOverflow is for mathematicians to ask each other questions about their research. See Math.StackExchange to ask general questions in mathematics. Moreover, the second Math.StackExchange is a link. I think several times I...

Q: Redundant ways to close as off-topic/better on MSE

Douglas ZareRight now, there are 4 ways to vote to close a question as off-topic. "This question does not appear to be about research level mathematics within the scope defined in the help center." "MathOverflow is for mathematicians to ask each other questions about their research. See Math.StackExchang...

Q: Migrating to Math.SE: too many close reasons

Nate EldredgeAs everyone knows, we get a fair number of questions on this site that are not research level, but would be appropriate for http://math.stackexchange.com. As a frequent Math.SE user, I have an interest in seeing that they get there (particularly because sometimes I want to answer them!). We hav...

Q: What's the difference between two off-topic flags?

LSpiceI'm sure that this is somewhere on MMO, but my searching hasn't turned it up. When I flag a question as off-topic, two of the options that I am given are "This question does not appear to be about research level mathematics within the scope defined in the help center." and "MathOverflow is for m...

Q: Closing votes: what difference between "not research related" and "not research related"

Desiderius SeverusI am reviewing many posts with close votes recently, and I often end up with the same uneasiness about the reason to chose. In the "Community specific reason" option, there are This question does not appear to be about research level mathematics within the scope defined in the help center. Mat...

Q: When we close questions and suggest MSE, should we link to their How to Ask?

Matt F.When we close questions by saying MathOverflow is for mathematicians to ask each other questions about their research. See Math.StackExchange to ask general questions in mathematics. ...should the link go to the Math StackExchange How to Ask page? Many questions which get closed with that ...

@TimCampion From what I understood, there is still space for one more custom close reason. Still I will remind that - if needed - MO can request SE to allow having more close reasons on this site, if needed.
I have previously mentioned this in the MathOverflow chatroom:

@TimCampion Have you (and other mods) considered whether MO might at some point ask for more custom close reasons? Or would that be premature at this point - since the standard number isn't used up ATM?
And in this room, too:

A: How do moderators make changes to the site-specific closed question reasons?

Shog9Introduction Per-site off-topic reasons were created to reduce the amount of confusion and debate surrounding what specifically is on- or off-topic for a given site. Folks asking questions for the first time are often unclear on what is allowed or expected; by explaining common misconceptions in ...

> A few sites do get a regular influx of off-topic questions in a larger number of distinct categories; if you find this to be the case on your site, post a feature-request on your meta site with examples of questions that would benefit from a predefined off-topic option - we'll verify the need for this and work with you to make more reasons available.

This happened, for example, on Ask Ubuntu: Can we have more than 3 custom close reasons, pretty please?

Q: Can we have more than 3 custom close reasons, pretty please?

OliAsk Ubuntu mod here. We've exhausted our custom close reason slots and we need a few more. We are a very broad site. We cater to development, application support, installation support, hardware support and various integrations with other software. Being so majestically helpful also means we have...

A: Can we have more than 3 custom close reasons, pretty please?

Adam LearWe can enable more close reasons, but we are trying to hold off on doing that unless there's a demonstrated need because long lists have historically proven to be, at best, confusing. At the same time, we certainly recognize that some sites have different needs. For example, Stack Overflow alre...
