This is almost my first chat. Not familiar with this place.
this is probably my 2nd chat in 7 yrs on Stack Exchange
Hi @GabrielStaples. First off, an apology: I should practice what I teach and not engage in long conversations in comments. I was just impressed by Plumo's answer and was taken aback when I read your comments which all seemed like "this is wrong" and " do this better" without showing any thanks. So I expressed myself badly, and left you a passive-aggressive comment. This is not cool and I should know better, so my apologies for that too.
ok cool; thanks
I was impressed with the answer too
@GabrielStaples Yeah, sorry, I just didn't want to continue in the comments. The main thing I wanted to say is sorry, I overreacted there and made a mountain out of a molehill.
I'll be clearing out the comments (mine and yours answering mine) now. And yeah, sorry for jumping down your throat a little.
ok sounds fine
How did you create this chat, by the way?
also, I really didn't see my responses as complaints.
Note sure if you saw my last 2 comments?
Also, for future reference, @GabrielStaples, thanking with the upvote button is indeed much better than leaving a thank you comment! It's just that (I, personally, not necessarily the community or the site) feel that if you do leave a comment, adding a thanks is nice.

That being said, I know I'm a little different than many other people in how I interpret things
@GabrielStaples Fair enough. As I said, I basically overreacted here. I would have liked a "Hey, thanks for this, but..." is all. But sure, everyone can have different views on things like that.
@GabrielStaples By visiting your chat profile and clicking on the "create a new room with this user" button.
interesting. Can I start chats with people? Or just moderators can do it?
No, I think all users can do it.
Although I've been a mod for a while now, so I might be misremembering.
Also, my reputation shown here must be my total combined across all Stack Exchange sites?
yep

And are chats saved?
They all (except SO and Meta-SE) share the same chat server so rep here is the sum of all Stack Exchange sites.
and publicly viewable?
yes, chats are saved and publicly viewable (with some exceptions: mods can create private ones).
Rooms are eventually deleted, but I think the transcript will always be visible.
interesting. I'll try to remember to think more about the human aspect of conversation and begin with a thanks next time.
@GabrielStaples And that's all I could ever ask of you, thanks! :)

Here's my take on communication: Communicating with humans is one of the most complicated, discouraging, enigmatic processes I have ever endeavored to undertake. I speak English far better than I speak, write or code any computer programming language. Yet, I think communicating with a human is far harder than communicating with any computer.

heh, you're not wrong. Not wrong at all.
Ah, by the way, about deleted rooms: yes you can still see the transcripts but only if you have at least 10krep.

A: Cannot see chat room transcript while another user can

Monica CellioThe room has been deleted, so only moderators and users with at least 10k network reputation can see it. (The user who reported being able to see it has 71k rep.) Rooms are frozen when they become inactive, and some frozen rooms are automatically deleted. Your room had only a few messages and t...

I see. Thanks.
Anyway, thanks for taking all this so well despite my initial clumsiness. See you around the site, I hope! :)
You're welcome. Sounds good. See you around.
