We have a new nomination! Please welcome our latest candidate Werner!

4 hours later…
6:00 AM
Has anyone else here had extremely bad experiences with the candidate named Werner? Or was it only me?

5 hours later…
10:34 AM
Hi everyone, just passing by. I just found my old account and couldn't resist the temptation in the election thingy. Make sure it doesn't survive the nomination phase. I hope you all get underfull boxes left and right.
much love, ciao!

@percusse Oh, hello! Good to see you here!

@percusse can't we tempt you back, the site is sadly short on monochrome humans

@DavidCarlisle Maybe after elected as moderator, he'd be more inclined to come back :)

2 hours later…
12:51 PM

Good: thought the bot might not be working as it missed the fifth nomination

3 hours later…
4:04 PM
@JosephWright that could have been the shock :-)

2 hours later…
6:04 PM
@ElectionBot I wanna vote

It's not my job to please you, no.

@ElectionBot how can I vote

You cannot vote yet. In the meantime you can read and comment on the candidates' nominations as well as their answers to the questionnaire to find out more about their moderation style. Don't forget to come back in 1 hour to also vote in the election's final voting phase!

@ElectionBot terrible bot

So you want to play this game?

6:05 PM
@ElectionBot shutdown

6:55 PM
What is my candidate score?

@Mensch Your candidate score is 38 (out of 40). You are missing these badges: Constituent, Investor. Perhaps consider nominating in the election?

@Mensch You have four minutes

What is my candidate score?

@DavidCarlisle Your candidate score is 37 (out of 40). You are missing these badges: Constituent, Marshal, Steward. Perhaps consider nominating in the election?

@DavidCarlisle Four three minutes

6:57 PM
@JosephWright it would take me longer than that to remove all the teh from my nomination statement

Very short time ... :-)

@DavidCarlisle You can edit after the fact, I suspect
Two minutes

@JosephWright oh I need a different excuse then

@DavidCarlisle should I distract you with some questions?

@UlrikeFischer you just did

7:00 PM
@DavidCarlisle works ;-)

I blame @UlrikeFischer for missing the election deadline

@DavidCarlisle Ah, seems not: I was forgetting about BST - you have another hour

@DavidCarlisle in my browser the election site just jumped from 1 hour to 59 minutes

And now for something completely different - The election is in the nomination phase, and currently there are 5 candidates. I can answer commonly-asked questions about elections (type @ElectionBot help for more info).

8:00 PM
The election's final voting phase is now open. You may now rank the candidates in your preferred order. Good luck to all candidates!

Oh, I had a Tampermonkey script running that removed the sidebar... whoops.

9:39 PM
@ElectionBot Is just ranking my preferred candidates enough?

Keep talking and nobody explodes.

@ElectionBot What is my candidate score?

@samcarter Wow! You have a maximum candidate score of 40! Alas, the nomination period is over. Hope to see your candidature next election!

@CarLaTeX A number of things will tell you that your ballot has been saved (and that you've voted): (1) You earn the Constituent badge; (2) When you return to the election page, your ranking is still there from before; (3) Any change in ranking/vote should display a "Selection saved" notification (similar to how a post is saved as a draft).

@Werner Thank you! I did it correctly, then!

9:53 PM
@CarLaTeX I too had wondered how this works, since this is my first SE election.

@Werner They've changed the process since last time ;)

@Werner Yes, it is a bit complicated :D

@JosephWright Oh my. It's all new to me. Did they allow voting by mail previously? ;)

@Werner :)
@Werner Actually, they changed it recently (one reason the SO election was interesting) - the drag-to-vote business is pretty new

@Werner I think there is an open feature request on main meta to add a button to press - this would give users some confidence that there vote was actually recorded.

9:58 PM
@samcarter I was searching for the button, indeed!

@samcarter I agree. The current process seems to allow you to change your vote after casting it. A buttoned approach should do the same, allowing changes (or updates) throughout the entire election process.

correction: the feature request was declined by staff :( meta.stackexchange.com/a/363458/237989

Public service announcement: The election is underway, and 165 (0.83% of 19,876 eligible) users have already voted! I can answer commonly-asked questions about elections (type @ElectionBot help for more info).

@ElectionBot Who are the candidates?

Presently, there are 6 candidates: Roland, MadyYuvi, Alan Munn, Werner, percusse, Mensch

10:13 PM
@samcarter Do you see the six candidates??

@ElectionBot I only see five. No @Mensch.

reticulating splines

@UlrikeFischer I don't see @Mensch in the ballot
@ElectionBot Where are you hiding @Mensch?

Keep talking and nobody explodes.

@ElectionBot no explosions? Sounds boring ...

@samcarter that is a novelty, an invisible candidate ;-)

@UlrikeFischer yes :) On SO one of the candidates retracted their nomination, but they would still show up in the list with the questions. No trace at all is really curious!

Q: Candidate count has not been updated since one candidate was withdrawn

yiviThe header for the election page still says that we have 6 candidates: But currently we have only 5. I imagine it could be caching, but it's been 8 hours since the change, and it hasn't refreshed still. Either that number should be fixed, or we should add a 6th candidate. Either works for me.

... but I don't think the candidate withdrew, otherwise we would see such a banner:
@ElectionBot why was a nomination removed

10:33 PM
Candidates may withdraw their nomination any time before the election phase. Nominations made in bad faith, or candidates who do not meet the requirements may also be removed by community managers.

@ElectionBot Is there an overview like electionbot.samliew.com for the tex.se election?
