Throws barbell at @mfinni

@Wesley Bastard.

@mfinni C'mon, isn't that one of the official crossfit workouts? Juggle barbells while crab squatting or something?

@Wesley Probably is. Overhead one-legged squats while standing on a kettlebell

@Magellan really? That doesn't sound right. Do you have a link to that issue. I think we actually use PDF forms here for some things. I may need to get ahead of this.

12:03 AM
@Wesley Dammit cat.

@Wesley I wonder if he will follow the install directions next time that strongly suggests you screw it down or to a wall or something.

@Zoredache One can only hope he doesn't so we have more gifs. =)
What kind of posture is that guy using. That's like reverse military press. Seems lame.

@Wesley Dude could sell that dog and buy a bench

You people and your goddamn animated gifs

12:06 AM
@mfinni Bottle jacks as a rack. So ghetto. I love it. =)
@Magellan =D

Makes this laptop run like shit because it's spending all its CPU rendering the GIFs.

@Wesley Any bench press technique that looks like this girl's has gotta be right (no, really):

Hey everyone! I found @TomOConnor

@Zoredache Adobe Reader X used to allow me to 'Add Text' to my PDFs. That option disappeared from the Tools menu and all the Export and Create PDF now send you to a website where you can pay Adobe to do it via the web.

@Magellan use another pdf editor

12:08 AM
@freiheit What the...

@RyJones Yes, but I need to get the NDA signed and emailed back for tomorrow interview and have obligations until 8pm tonight.

@Wesley It's a tiny little 13 year old girl bench pressing more than you ever will. ;)

Not like I needed another reason to hate Adobe, but hey, here's another.

@freiheit I've never seen that posture.

@Magellan they have a 30 day demo of Acrobat.
download it, use it, throw it away
or email it to me and I'll do it and email it back

12:13 AM
@Wesley Because she's tiny and skinny and not wearing a baggy shirt, it's more extreme, but the arching thing seems to be what's recommended to maximize how much weight you can press.
@Wesley Here's an inclined version of Arnold using the same kind of arching posture: assets.schwarzenegger.com/uploads/images/index/cache/…

@freiheit Yeah, that's an incline bench press. Activates your anterior delts more than a lying bench press.
I thought she was on a flat bench, not an incline bench
She had so little range of motion...
But she's the one pressing 240 pounds, not me...

@ewwhite Was it NetApp that's been boring you out like a redneck ricer?

@Wesley I think limiting range of motion by raising the chest helps win bench press contests. (she's a world champion in her age range)

@freiheit Yeahhh, I'd like to learn more about that. My initial reaction is that it's a technically acceptable way to impress crowds, but not optimal for really building muscle. At least, the folks I run with are sticklers for getting a full ROM rep in for every exercise. But once more, she's the one with endorsements and benching more than I weigh, soo... =)
I haven't done a plain bench press in so long... I don't even know what I could do.
I do dumbbell bench presses and superset with flys and overhead pulldowns - so don't really know what my max would be.
Probably not impressive.
@mfinni on the other hand could probably bench press a fraternity house.

@Wesley And, of course, it's not a video of her working out, it's a video of her competing...

12:23 AM
@freiheit Right - like the "world record benchpresses in one minute" video I saw the other day. Dude was flailing like a flag in a hurricane.
But hey, he got into the Guinness Book so whatevs. He got his moment.

@Wesley I'm still a few pounds shy of benching bodyweight, nothing to write home about.

upstairs neighbors...do you really feel the urge to bounce a damn ball?!

Been doing more work with straight overhead motions - strict press, push press, jerk and split jerk

@scott what?

Another good question is why are you trying to use different IP addresses for HTTP and HTTPS. This isn't going to work. — Michael Hampton 37 secs ago

12:30 AM
@RyJones Got FoxIT Reader installed. The PDF they sent me is a pure image. Nothing to fill out. Going to have to figure out something to scan my signature in. Oh well.

@Magellan I could convert the image into a form by dropping text boxes onto it.
I hate it when people do that shit, too
like everyone has a flatbed scanner
I ended up screenshotting forms and forging a signature a lot

@RyJones And it was fine while Adobe allowed filling out forms from Reader. I pretty damn sure that they know that most government forms are PDF now. Which is why proprietary formats for government services piss me off so much.

PDF isn't really a proprietary format, though?
> In 2008, Adobe published a Public Patent License to ISO 32000-1 granting royalty-free rights for all patents owned by Adobe that are necessary to make, use, sell and distribute PDF compliant implementations.

12:47 AM
@mfinni So did that 12 year old out bench you? =P

I've done some Open Data (governmental) research few months ago. And according to Open Knowledge Foundation documents/guides PDF was considered as closed format. Weird...

@Wesley Correct

@mfinni Well you did a widowmaker, so there's that.

@Wesley Also got 5 reps in with 305 - could have kept going but i got light-headed and didn't want to wait for it to clear

@Wesley Yo mumma so FAT she can't save files over 4GB

1:00 AM
@MarkHenderson Yo momma got mad that your dad couldn't reiser to the occasion so he killed her.

@Wesley Yo mumma's so fat that scientists track her position by observing anomalies in Pluto's orbit
Yo mumma's so fat her weight has to be stored in an INT64

Yo momma's so easy I fscked her twice yesterday

@Wesley Oh come on, totally a setup.

Yo dog's so nasty, it licks its own balls!
and eats poop!
had to jump in there
:p

@MattBear Be honest. If you could lick your own balls, you would.

1:18 AM
@MikeyB who said I cant?

@superpatosainz I feel like "dirty" (as in dirty FS) would work better there, instead of "easy"

You are right.

j/k, I can't... I just tried. @Wesley can though

@superpatosainz Still star worthy regardless.

@superpatosainz So then nano is? :)

A bigger penis, I guess.

Some exclusive games seem pretty compelling, meaning, GTA V, Journey, The Last of Us

@jscott Now that's an ROI I can get behind
Where do I invest my... checks bank account $54.40?

Rule #1 of electronics: don't electrocute yourself

1:46 AM
actually no. Always have a second person around when you work with dangerous voltages.

Even for modding my desktop PC I am overly cautious with the connections

(interestingly a rule I broke both times I got zapped)
the second rule is "No, he's not there to hold your fucking beer"

@superpatosainz: funny thing is I'm probably trained to be the IT equivalent of that

about half of one of my majors is managing IT and IT security (though, actually sensible stuff for most part)
my other major is straight up management

1:50 AM
@JourneymanGeek do you think it is possible to build such a speaker without completely destroying sound quality

Anonymous
nor blowing the speakers?

Of course, it would have to draw current from a line rather than from the radio equipment itself

I've heard of people doing it with a tesla coil

If I made two of those, I could sell them in a really profitable way to some friends who happen to be professional event organisers

I'd just like to point out that chart leaves off a few important statistics. Such as:

* number of military veterans who go crazy and blow up public buildings / start shooting up settlements in foreign countries

@JourneymanGeek why do you think so

hmm
for one thing, I think the reason for most of these designs being open is the sound getting out.

oh

2:00 AM
let me sketch what I have on mind lol, dunno if it would work but it would be pretty cool

typically speaker designs are open so that the driver is not trying to create a vacuum, if that's what you're wondering......

this is closer to what you're thinking

oh I saw that

wasn't as impressive as I would have wanted

Now there's something you don't see every day.

hey, can someone help me out understanding groups in Linux real quick?

3:13 AM
@MattBear Uh, sure. They're pretty simple.

@Magellan well, I have more specific questions about em
can they be nested?

@MattBear No.

eg. have one group a member of another?

No.

ok then

3:14 AM
But you can have groups with multiple names that have the same GID and thereby get around the group length definition limit.

@Magellan Pisses me off.

and I can only have one group have permissions to a folder right?

Last I checked, the limit is 1024 characters on a line.

I am angreh kitteh!

@Magellan what does that mean?

3:15 AM
@MattBear yes. ACLs may get around that, but it's less widely supported than the 30+ groups concept.
So this is slice of a normal group file:
apache:x:48:
named:x:25:
dhcpd:x:177:

@Magellan basically im trying to do some fine grained permissions windows style

@MattBear Unix ACLs.
But they're not as good as Windows.
One of the few areas in which Windows beats the pants off Linux.

group 1 has rwx to folder 1, group 2 has rwx to folder 2, group 3 has rwx to both
is my goal right now
but users in group 3 cant be members of 1 and 2, otherwise my ftp jail doesn't work correctly

ACLs ought to be sufficient for that.

cause group 1 is jailed to folder 1, group 2 is jailed to folder 2, group 3 needs to be jailed to the folder containing folders 1 and 2

3:19 AM
@MichaelHampton Agreed. That's not too bad. I've seen worse.
I've always worked in shops that used NFSv3 or didn't require multiple group access granularity, so I've never picked up much on ACLs.

@MDMarra There, I upvoted you. Now are you happy now?
As for SNI, I think IE on XP is the big one, and as far as I know, it's no longer considered to be capable of making fully secure connections.

@MichaelHampton 'tis.
though I think it might be only IE6 that is like that

@FalconMomot Nope, it's all versions of IE, since MS never updated CryptoAPI on XP.

oh, heh.

Doesn't matter. In a few months we can officially start telling anyone using XP to fuck off.

3:29 AM
:)
hmph
someone claimed my code was buggy but the best they could tell me was that it failed somewhere in the middle of a process that will take over 4 hours on my development box, and that they didn't keep the logs.
I guess my dev box gets to be pinned for a while and the bug will be fixed sometime next week.
hmm, by 4 hours I mean 100 hours. yup, next week.

lol
why would ANYONE still be using... oh wait
still maintains one XP box

I don't suppose any of you have a paid account at netmarketshare?

oh joy, the debug logs I need to figure this one out are larger than my disk array.
I think I need a more efficient debug logging system.

3:55 AM
@JourneymanGeek Do some work in manufacturing. There's still DOS 5 on factory floors.
And worse.

@JourneymanGeek Uh, the Aspire One that Lady is using right now runs XP.
@MichaelHampton So should I relay that to her Ladyship? She rather likes her AspireOne.

I bet the big fancy shipyard in Singapore still has Windows 3.51 running critical systems @JourneymanGeek

see
the thing to do is to start a charity to hack the living shit out of them and bring them to their knees unless they drop windows altogether :)

@Magellan She might like a new one better. And it'll have Windows 7.

should a swap partition be primary or logical?

4:01 AM
@marabutt You're in the wrong room.

 Root Access

For all you Super Users out there. You have backups, right?

whoops sorry

@marabutt Do you work for a cloud provider, perchance?

no ... thankfully for website administrators

Beware of the cat. He's preparing to eat you.

@MichaelHampton No, not really. Considering her entire home is done up in 1950s vintage furniture and the AspireOne fulfills her needs quite well, I don't think she's welcome to hassle of moving from an old laptop to a new one.

4:05 AM
oh, lovely, I just found another series of x87 instructions that aren't defined anywhere on the internet.

@Magellan In that case, perhaps she would like an even older one?
I'm sure we can find something on eBay that runs Windows 95.
An antique computer, if you will.

@MichaelHampton No, that would take up too much room. We only have 1000 square feet. And frankly, the performance of the AspireOne blows the doors off her HP laptop with Vista that I use. It's newer than the AspireOne, but it's a real pig.
Twice the memory too

@Magellan Well...um... put 2008 R2 on it with a Technet key and workstationize it?
(And don't tell anyone that my Aspire One netbook is running 2012 R2..)

@MichaelHampton why would I want to install a server OS on a laptop? If it wasn't for the documents and stuff that she still has on it in the corners and crevices, I would've blown it out in favor of Ubuntu Desktop already.

@Magellan I think I'd rather run Windows Server than Ubuntu Desktop...
and I"m a Linux guy.

4:14 AM
@MichaelHampton I admin'd Ubuntu LTSP servers for 500+ staff for 3 years. Professional driver on a Closed Course, yada yada.

@Magellan Yeah, I heard some of the horror stories. :)
Once you get over the whole Metro thing, it really isn't that bad...

@MichaelHampton Most of that would've been better if they weren't so cheap. But non-profits, well, sometimes things get a little out of perspective.

As I recall, the inmates were running the asylum.

@MichaelHampton Yes. Drove me crazy that one of my padawans would secretly spend time cleaning out $7 keyboards for redeployment. Never could explain to him that his time was worth far more than the 2-3 used keyboards he could in an hour.
And I tried. Over. And Over. Again.

And... to answer your earlier question, MS gives me a mountain of free keys for Windows Server OSes, but nothing for client OSes. Soooo.....

4:21 AM
@MichaelHampton Ah. I didn't know that. Is it still $250 for TechNet subscriptions? I had to hand all my credentials in when I left job[-3]

@Magellan When you start your LLC, you can become a Microsoft OEM partner for just filling out a form, and then you can get into the MAP program for a few hundred a year. Better than TechNet because you get production licenses of many products, except no customer workloads / data can reside on those instances.
So there's still some production use to the licenses.
Technically TechNet licenses were evaluation / testing only with no production workloads or data allowed.
Who reads EULAs?
I read EULAs.
=P

@Wesley Interesting. Thanks.

Who follows EULAs?

Hello.
=(

I might have read a EULA once, when I was really bored.
And yes, I'm ... uh ... evaluating Windows. Even after 20+ years, I'm still not quite convinced.

4:34 AM
@MichaelHampton No problem! As long as no production data or workloads are on it...
=P

@Wesley Nope, I'm only testing World of Warcraft...

4:46 AM
@MichaelHampton And frankly, it kinda sucks. Not sure I want to use it.

Argh. No Ruby tonight.
Stupid SQL Server.
Stupid Windows Server.
Stupid everything.

@Wesley Yeah, after x hours of connection time, DHCP requests from KVM clients start getting broken replies. Or at least think all the packets are borked. Applying that rule on the host fixed it.
Odd issue tonight. DHCP clients failing due to bad UDP checksums from KVM host. This fixed it: http://goo.gl/Y0PSWZ

@Magellan Blog about it! =)

@Wesley Yeah. That's on the list of things to refurbish too. Voretaq's preferred blog app may be more secure than Wordpress, but it's so ugly it makes Yo Momma look like Miss America.
