Hello, hello!
Please post: modinfo iwlwifi | grep filename
Also: sudo dmesg | grep iwl
Do you have several kernel versions installed? ls /boot
For example, from my machine:
config-5.11.0-18-generic memtest86+.elf
config-5.11.0-22-generic memtest86+_multiboot.bin
grub System.map-5.11.0-18-generic
initrd.img System.map-5.11.0-22-generic
initrd.img-5.11.0-18-generic vmlinuz
initrd.img-5.11.0-22-generic vmlinuz-5.11.0-18-generic
initrd.img-5.11.0-22-generic.old-dkms vmlinuz-5.11.0-22-generic
initrd.img.old vmlinuz.old
memtest86+.bin
Si I have xx-18 and xx-22 installed. According to the terminal command: uname -r I am currently running 5.11.0-22-generic
Therefor I could interrupt the boot process at the GUB menu so as to boot into 5.11.0-18-generic so that I could see if the wireless is working in x-18.
Please tell us if the wireless works while booted into an earlier kernel version.

Frankly, the message that was posted previously:
Direct firmware load for (efault)128.ucode failed with error -2 is a new one to me and Google!
I love a mystery!!
hello!
13:41
Good morning, my friend!
thanks for coming to my rescue!
Quite a problem we have here!
did u review what transpired so far?
I did and, sadly for me, you have done 90% of what I might have suggested. That leaves me with slim pickings to try to find a solution.
We like to provide you with a challenge :-)
13:44
LOL!
Unless it's just a 21.04 problem...
I didn't check syslog to see if it's actually loading a ucode file
I'm running 21.04 with an Intel wireless device and, at lest in my case, it's flawless.
same AX201?
No, I buy my laptops refurbished and use them forever, so I have an ancient 7260.
I also didn't have OP boot to a Ubuntu Live and install the newer ucode files to see if that worked.
Yes, the 7260 should work everywhere.
BTW... you can upgrade the 7260 to a 9260, and with one minor mod, you can step into the 21st century :-)
13:51
So far, in this refurb Lenovo, I have replaced the wireless card, the SSD and the CD/DVD drive.
I would do just that if Lenovo didn't whitelist the wireless card. I an using the fastest that's available.
I guess I could hack the BIOS, though.
You can get 1.7Mb on 160Mhz channels!
YIKES!
It just requires taping off two pins on the 9260.
So, does OP have backports installed as of now?
We installed backports, but it didn't seem to help, so we purged it.
13:56
Ah! Good. I have had zero luck with backports; however, it is always worth a try as it's just as easy to purge.
Yes. I'd suggest checking syslog, and Ubuntu Live.
@Newtoubuntu Let's also see: grep iwlwifi /etc/modprobe.d/*
What does "MUTED" mean in the Firefox tab for this chat?
Newtoubuntu hasn't been online for ~12 hours
Hmmm. I dunno. I don't use Firefox. Have you set notifications at the little speaker to allow notifications? It's a little beep.
Nope
14:00
Newtoubuntu probably has a life, unlike me. You know, a job, a family, kids, etc.
oh, I just figured it out... I right-clicked on the tab and selected unmute :-)
No life here either...
Darn OP was probably sleeping...
:-)
I only have one job: Say "Yes, dear, whatever you want" whenever Mrs. Chili speaks.
poor guy
Here in CA we have a real problem with fires... and right now... helicopters are overhead... wish me luck...
Had to leave a number of years ago due to fires, and I don't want to do it again.
Wow! I wish you luck indeed.
Let me go outside and check... BRB...
14:05
Living in California AND fires! Double whammy!
Got to go for now. I'll check back in later. Good luck with this case!
Thanks friend!
Good luck!!
c'ya!

re: You can get 1.7Mb on 160Mhz channels!... I should have said 1.7Gb...

1 hour later…
15:45
@Newtoubuntu chili555 did come to the rescue.
Ping him with @chili555 to let him know that you're here.
16:08
I am here but Mrs. Chili and I will be leaving for lunch in about 20 mins.
