My suggestions are to make sure that the new NIC will connect and get an IP address:
sudo dhclient -v enp5s0
Did it get an IP address? Cinfirm:
ip addr show
If it did, then amend the netplan file to use enp5s0. Carefully follow the examples:
cat /usr/share/doc/netplan/examples/static.yaml
Netplan is strict about indentation, spacing, etc, so be cautious. Once the file is set, follow with:
sudo netplan generate
And then:
sudo netplan apply
It out to take immediate effect. Did the interface get the requested address? Check:
ip addr show
If so, you are all set and you can detach the ethernet cable from the old NIC.
Questions? Concerns?

Thanks for this reply. I got busy and I'll have to try these tomorrow, but I'll let you know what I get tomorrow. Thanks
I'll check back then. Good luck!

Hey, good morning. I made a small breakthrough. I plugged another ethernet cable into my new NIC port, and realized that there was an ethernet signal when I did ip addr. No IP address, until I did that command you sent (sudo dhclient -v enp5s0). I got an IP address, and I thought my problem was fixed, until I unplugged the ethernet cord from my old NIC. There was no connection apparently. I was still in the SSH session, but I could not ping servers or websites. I don't know what it could be
Also, it seems that enp5s0 is not activated on boot. I have to use sudo ifconfig enp5s0 up to get it to activate
I'll try writing the .yml file for the netplan
Hey!
It works! I created the netplan and its working! Before, I disabled my old NIC with sudo ifconfig enp0s10 down and tried pinging google.com with my new one and got no response. Now, I created the netplan, and disabled the old NIC again, and the new one is working! speedtest-cli is giving me gigabyte speeds. Thank you!

Woo hoo! I am very glad it's working!!!
If it's possible, can you tell me how to disable the old NIC and enable the new NIC on boot?
Did you remove the old interface, enp0s10 from the netplan yaml? If so, and if you detach the ethernet from the old one, you should be all set.
Oh, ok. Thank you again
I can edit my question and add this as the answer, unless you want to write an answer and I mark it as the answer
I shall convert my suggestions above into an answer that I hope you will accept.
Yep, thank you
Ok, have a good day! Thank you again so much

Happy to help. Glad it's working!
