1:56 PM
Hello,
My curious mind wants to know something.

When I edit one /some of vector illustration layer/s in photoshop what does it become? Raster? Or still a vector layer?
Thank you :)
I think it becomes raster, because the whole thing is converted into PSD. But I want to be sure.

2:44 PM
@NeverLookBack It depends. Photoshop does have vector shapes. But what do you mean that you "edit one /some of vector illustration layer/s in photoshop"?

suppose I draw one tree in Illustrator which has three leaves. I export that in psd, and apply adjustment layer on it by clapping mask, in such case are those leaves still vector or raster?

@NeverLookBack I didn't know you could export into PSD from Illustrator.

Why would I do that? 😀

Because I cant make lots of beautification in Illustrator

2:48 PM
@NeverLookBack Just tried it. It asks for which resolution you want so it rasterizes.

yes
Photoshop seems difficult
so I try Illustrator
I draw in Illustrator first, Then transfer that into photoshop

It gives a bit strange result if you ask it to preserve editability. Text will be editable, but effect applied to the text won't so ...

yeah :(

Well they are for different purposes. I would use Illustrator mostly to draw sharp geometric shapes. And Photoshop for editing photos or adding effects to vector drawings. But then they aren't vector anymore.

That is what I wanna know. they becomes raster.
wish adobe can make one epic software where I can do both ..
become*

2:55 PM
I don't! I wish their programs had less overlaps in functionality

'overlaps'?

You can place Illustrator files as smart objects in Photoshop and apply filters while still being able to edit the vector shapes.
But of course if you want to edit pixels directly you have to rasterize

Oh, Now I understand

@NeverLookBack i mean InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop have some functionality in common. Which is annoying in my opinion

like what?
name some or one

2:59 PM
Give me a few minutes. I'm on phone. I move over to desktop

Sure. Take your time. I am feeding a stray cat as well. she mews all day beside my window

Soon it won't be a stray anymore then 😂

:D
Soo true. and they bring new cat some times.

@NeverLookBack It's convoluted. Photoshop is mainly a program for manipulating pixels right? Photo editing, digital painting etc. But you can also do a little video editing and 3D even though there are much better applications for that.
Photoshop can also save as PDF, but why? They can't be used for print because you can't add bleed and cropmarks.
It also has vector, but in a very limited way. Illustrator would be much better for drawing vector.
And Illustrator and InDesign also has many overlaps. Both can be used to make designs for print. But InDesign is in my opinion superior because it's much better at handling many pages and typography in general.
It's very confusing to new users.
I see it like this: Photoshop is for making and editing raster images. Illustrator is for making vector graphics. InDesign is for putting it all together.
Or that's how I use them at least.

3:17 PM
Ah now I got it. I agree with you.
maybe photoshop should exclude those what ya mention
I love Von, he always criticize adobe. haha. he is too cute
von glitschka*

@NeverLookBack youtuber?

which era you are from ?0
:O
:D

@NeverLookBack Haha
I don't know him. I generally don't know many names in design. I more just look around at everything around me.

3:34 PM
Seriously you never heard of him?

Nope

I always search who is best in particular field. When I start learning adobe his name pops first
adobe illustrator*

@NeverLookBack I think I'm more seeking inwards instead of outwards. Don't watch many tutorials or read about design studios and such. Of course I look at other people's work. It's all around us. But I don't have any idols.

Maybe because you are experienced. knows a lot. that's why you have your own style.
am still learning
know*

@NeverLookBack i don't know if I have a style. Or I guess I do, but I also make what's fitting for each client. It's not art.
So what I personally like isn't really the most important thing.

3:39 PM
I am trying to say You have a strong foundation around all these softs! right. I dnt. when you were a newbie You must had someone to look upto. For me Von is the guy
I dnt watch anything from youtube unless its a dire need. always try to follow someone who knows EVRYTHING about particular soft.

@NeverLookBack i learned the foundation at school but at some point you are on your own. I've always dabbled a lot with software since I was a kid so when there's something I want to find out I just go through all the menus and try all sorts of things.
So the technical stuff doesn't give me many problems. Designing and getting ideas and all that keeps being hard. When you get better you just raise the bar.

Excellent. I am not that privileged. I had to learn by my own. And am totally opposite. too many ideas in my head. when My client want one I produce three . Then they become confused. They ask me which one you think is best :D
you studied in Art?
if I may ask
you know adobe from school?
we cant imagine that here

@NeverLookBack Perhaps hard to imagine, but education is free here. Not books and stuff. And you even get money to live from while studying.

So Beautiful your system is!

@NeverLookBack Yes. High tax to pay for it of course.
When i was young I was very confused about what to do. I took 3 years on School of Architecture and became a bachelor. Realized it wasn't for me. Only liked doing the presentations.
Then I tried 1 year at Music Science on the university, but also gave up on that. Mostly liked making pretty note sheets.

3:52 PM
and what did ya do after that realization? You changed the track?

Then finally I found out that I wanted to be a graphic designer.

Aww <3

And took a 4 year education.

on 'graphic design' ?

Here it's at the same kind of school where you become a craftsman. Like carpenter or electrician.
So it's 4 years where you are an apprentice in a company and go to school for some months every year.
I ended up staying in the company where I was an apprentice and now I've been there for 10 years.

3:54 PM
I start to admire your education system . its SOOO friendly. I am about to check the GDP of denmark
:D
10 years!!!

@NeverLookBack It was waaay easier to take multiple educations and change your mind back then. It's harder now. But the education in itself is still free. It's just harder to get money on the side while studying if you spend too many years.
@NeverLookBack They fly by 😢

you should write an autobiography. I will buy the first copy

@NeverLookBack Haha you are funny

I mean it. :D

@NeverLookBack You should talk to more people then 😉

3:58 PM
people here attack me for thanking them. they hurt me by posting 'barb' beneath my answer :( i dnt talk with all here
:/
Curious brought me here

@NeverLookBack To the chat room?

yes
I nvr knew a chat room is here

What is your background? You have a design job?
@NeverLookBack No it's a bit hidden.
@NeverLookBack I noticed your very elaborate thannnnnk youuuuuussssssss from the beginning. 😂

I studied in Science. Started career as a banker. But I always love design. When I First came to know about Photoshop (in 2000) I started to think like you , that bank is not for me
@Wolff :D ok I wont thank anymore

@NeverLookBack Noooo

4:01 PM
haha
My sister is an architect

@NeverLookBack Which science? Science and banking two very different worlds?

she encouraged me to peruse career in 3d world

@NeverLookBack So you were withering away in a bank at day and doing 3d for fun at night?

in my country education system is a bit weird. You can peruse career in bank if you can pass some certain exam
@Wolff yes.
so later I quit bank and devote my time, passion and everything in designing.

@NeverLookBack It's just that here "science" could mean something like physics, math or perhaps also humanistic studies like psychology or English. But banking would belong to another world of economic studies.

4:04 PM
Information Science

@NeverLookBack Ah OK

coding and data related things

Actually right in the middle of everything in a way

true
May I know why didn't you like architecture? what makes you think its not for you?
and if you didn't like why you enrolled yourself in the first place?

@NeverLookBack Long story. I thought it would be more controlled by the teachers but we were pretty much on our own. Just got assignments and were expected to have something to show two weeks later.

4:08 PM
Okay.

All reading and lectures were optional and something we were supposed to find out about ourselves.

So its the institutional system, and the teacher who created the repulsion?

Then after three years I even had to invent my own assignments

as a final year thesis?

And I could see that I had focused on the art of architecture perhaps. Space and mood. But two years later I would have to tell engineers what to build. I couldn't see it happening.
@NeverLookBack two years. Five in total

4:12 PM
@Wolff this is pathetic!

A lot of the students had parents in the business and knew how to network. I felt I wasn't from the proper "class".

oh my god! the scenario is somewhat same here as well.
if you have big fish in family then architecture is easy here
otherwise not

@NeverLookBack From my side? Perhaps. But you really need to have a drive to teach yourself about building construction.

no, I meant here, in my country

@NeverLookBack So that's the downside of our system. We have an ideal that education should be free for all and that everyone can rise above their parents' class. But in reality it of course matters a lot.

4:14 PM
hm
so you are happy now?
with your job?
I am happiest
i hate banking
grrrr

My parents are retired elementary school teachers so they have of course always been able to help me a lot compared to others. Just coming from a home where seeking knowledge is a thing. If your parents are alcoholics and you struggle with all sorts of problems, the education might be free but it's very hard.

I think art/design makes me happy.

@NeverLookBack I think I'm a bit of a bitter, pessimistic person by nature. So never content. 😁 But I do enjoy the craft of designing. Making a tiny little universe where everything works and looks good.

If family (mom and dad) is not okay, you will nvr be okay. family needs to be a happy place for any kid.

@NeverLookBack I don't know about "happy" but it makes me forget time and place.

4:18 PM
same here. I forget all when I work and reading books
these are my abditory from reality

Also if you have something nice going you can look forward to when the file opens and you can see it again. Haha. Had that feeling even more with music when I made more of that.

You sing?
this is why no crows in your area.
or birds*
:D

@NeverLookBack Haha. The crows are safe. I seldom sing. I used to play a lot of guitar and bass. And program electronic music. Now I only meet with some guys to jam once in a while.

Aww.. you are indeed a creative person. You like linkin park?

@NeverLookBack (I learned a new word here)

4:21 PM
which is.. ?

@NeverLookBack Nah.

nah! :O

@NeverLookBack "Abditory"

which era u are from not to like linkin park
Abditory is somewhere you hide

@NeverLookBack I'm from the right era, it's just not my style.

4:22 PM
haha
am kidding
any Man who loves Music must love Linkin park.
I think so
who is your fav singer/ band?

They "yell-sing" too much. Hard to put in words. Not the right mix of rock and electronic for me.

Ah ok. I love their lyrics
I think you love soft music

@NeverLookBack I can't answer that. I like too many styles. Been trough many genres over time. 50s rock 'n' roll, old jazz, reggae/dancehall, classic rock, electronic, metal, pop hits, hip hop, ska, country, surf, classical etc. etc.

wow. You had your own band?

@NeverLookBack Yeah 20 years ago. With some friends. Had high hopes. Ended in a breakup. Like a divorce. Couldn't agree.

4:28 PM
hm. You still miss those days?

Yeah sometimes

still in touch with those friends? or no spoken terms?

@NeverLookBack Actually I'm not. But it's a long story.

all of our sad story is 'long story'

Yes haha. I'm not crying right now or anything, but it's just, you know, water under the bridge.

4:31 PM
I understand.

You're from Bangladesh right?

But you were talking about client from England

yes, My client were from england

Isn't it hard to do graphic design across cultures?

4:33 PM
most of them are American and British
noooooo
they love my work

I wouldn't know what people in Bangladesh like

haha. We are normal people, but not white

But there is perhaps sort of an international style...

I learned from all the famous platform
lynda, pluralsight, domestika
digital tutor
my art is western

But don't you have a graphical tradition specific to Bangladesh?

4:35 PM
otherwise I cant work
@Wolff Of course I do. But that wont pay my bill :d
:D

@NeverLookBack OK. (I meant "you people in Bangladesh" though)

come, Pay us a visit
give the birds/ crows in your sky a rest
:D

It's just that at work we sometimes get applications from people from the Middle East or other European countries, and often there is a long way before they could make things for our clients. I guess the "Nordic style" is a bit cold and safe maybe. Not many ornaments and colors.
But we of course don't have just "one" style. It's different if you are making business reports or pop commercials of course.
@NeverLookBack I'm not much of a traveler so it's unlikely. But who knows ...

communication matters. If your client can give you proper instructions about his/her requirements job becomes easy. I never face any problem so far. I pull all job succelffully.
yeah, You never knw what life throws' at you.
so we never know
I thought you are from Denmark. am I right? if not, My earnest apology. Vincent may be from Denmark

@NeverLookBack Yes I'm from Denmark. Vincent is from the Netherlands.

4:46 PM
Ah okay.
then am right.

Pretty similar countries in many ways.

yes
you two are neighbours

almost
Germany is in between

hm
Nice chatting Wolff. I am off to Dinner. see ya <3

@NeverLookBack Bon Appetit. See ya! 👋

4:53 PM
How do you get real emoji
and I dnt
:'(
i only have 'send' and 'upload' beside my chat space

@NeverLookBack I'm on PC. Right click and pick "Emoji". 😆

am on pc too
Oh my god, its hidden.

Try right-clicking then.

🙂
hm I get it at last

It's a browser thing. Not only on GDSE.

4:55 PM
so many time I only wonder
nooo
in fb its there
right before your eyes

You can also make proper multiplication signs × and other stuff

4x4=
okay proved

That's an x

4×4 looks sooo much better

4:56 PM
hahaha

What if you want to write x×x?
OK, still looks confusing
X×X then

lmao
are you a mod?

@NeverLookBack No. Mods have a ♦ besides their name.
@NeverLookBack You can see a list of them here: graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/users?tab=moderators

why are not you a mod ?
you have a lots of reputation
only three mods?

@NeverLookBack I'd have to run for election then.

4:59 PM
haha

There is an election

I will cast my vote for you

But I'd just ... rather spend time answering questions and voting and stuff.
@NeverLookBack I also need money for my campaign. Are you rich?

You, Scott, Vincent knows lots of things. maybe you used more brain than Einstein
@Wolff not poor
:D

@NeverLookBack Together perhaps. It's not exactly nuclear physics

5:03 PM
true. but you all give solution like magician.

Many knowledgeable users. I've learned a lot from answers. I don't ask questions myself (only two times - no answer). Always seem to find the answer here or by googling.

google failed me many times. GDSE saved my life
what ya ask that nobody answers? am curious to know

@NeverLookBack Lots of noise on google searches.
@NeverLookBack You can easily see for yourself in my profile.
There's a button labelled "Questions".

@NeverLookBack That's the general user for the whole site. Click the "Wolff" link next to the GDSE logo to see the GDSE profile.
(No it's the chat user)
Or click my avatar and click the "user profile on graphicdesign.stackexchange.com" link.
@NeverLookBack You don't lurk on other users?!? 😱 You can even see every comment a user made.

5:08 PM
those are hard questions. I see birds now after reading those.
@Wolff Really? Never knew. I will lurk some people now :D
is there any way someone will know that I lurk them?

@NeverLookBack Haha. I don't think so.

Thank god. :D

@NeverLookBack Remember if you look at a user's answers and like a lot of them, you can't chain upvote them. It would be considered "cheating" and redacted.

speak english

i don't make sense?

5:12 PM
no
not at all

I mean when you look at someone's answers you might like a lot of them.
But it's not allowed to upvote several answers from the same user in one day.

I like only few people here.
but when two of my fav people answer my question I have sleepless night to pick one\
:D
facepalm

@NeverLookBack Haha. I won't get mad if you choose someone other than me!
You should choose the best. Not the first or the one from someone you have chatted with.

that's so manly and kind of you. :D

@NeverLookBack Nooo! It's just how it should be. It's a bit of a computer game in a way with rep points. But it should be a gentleman's game.
Or -woman.

5:16 PM
Nope, chatting is different. But when someone answers my question I see whose answer serves me most. sometimes its both answers. then my sleepless night begins.

@NeverLookBack If you really think they are equally good. And equally illustrated. Then choose the first. What else to do?

Wolff I one particular person directly ordered me to pick that person's answer!
so No, Not all think like you here
being picked is everything to them
@Wolff see? why I lose sleep?

@NeverLookBack I must admit it's a bit of a game for me. But ... at the same time I don't put too much in it. Only things that annoy me are rude talk and users who never return to accept or comment. Oh yeah and also users who keep changing their question or won't accept until I answer another question.

haha... all of those scenarios are irritating.

@NeverLookBack is dinner over already?

5:23 PM
I didnt go
what time is there?

18.25

evening?

So soon I'll have dinner. I don't understand your meals

its midnight here

@NeverLookBack sorry, yes 6.25 pm
@NeverLookBack you eat dinner at midnight 😵

5:27 PM
I had work, I skipped meal. only had tea and snacks. But am very hungry now. I am like this, I forget all when work is there. submitted the file, then came here
your cats are sleeping?
my daughter is
she had her own bed, but NO. she will sleep on most unconfutable things. as if I didnt buy her bed

@NeverLookBack I have only one and no. A minute ago he tried to get attention because the food bowl was empty. He had recently learned how to go by me in front of the computer with a soft tail and then when the root of the tail gets near my face he flexes so my nose gets a snap. Hurts a bit after five times. 😂

hahaha.. he is cute

@NeverLookBack Yes, you can't control where they lie. Right now my cat is lying on top of the clean towels we haven't put away yet. 🤦‍♂️

@Wolff Ha ha
I think cats help us to be happy.. they are so adorable.
until they pee on wacom or monitor. 😔

5:43 PM
@NeverLookBack Yes. We always wanted a cat, but didn't get one because of all the fur everywhere, the chaos, not being able to go away on an impulse. But we did it anyway and the fun outweighs the trouble.
@NeverLookBack Our cat has never peed anywhere besides the tray.

@Wolff Then you are one of the luckiest graphic designer.
designers*

@NeverLookBack He's civilized.
Sort of

he is Roman ig
his ancestors are from Rome
Rome was the first civilized city on earth

@NeverLookBack You think? What about Babylon? What is the definition?

I have a thing for history. I watch history channel lots. From documentaries I learn what rome had built in their time considered very advanced compared to that time

5:48 PM
@NeverLookBack Sure. With real roads, irrigation systems and sewers and all.

yes, Exactly
I will learn about Babylon. I knw very lil about them.
is your dinner ready?

@NeverLookBack We will wait an hour or so. We eat kinda late.

Okay. I am famished, off to microwave the food. :'( Take care and Have a wonderful Evening.
<3

You should eat yes! Good night.

6:32 PM
Good Night.

3 hours later…
9:36 PM
A relationship with Adobe is like any relationship.... At first it's all new, exciting, and invigorating. After a while you start trying to alter the things you don't really like about the relationship. Over time, you begin give up on any altering and try to merely accept things are how they are. After years of trying to accept, you begin to get frustrated with these annoyances. After many years you wish you could go somewhere else. But now it's been so long, moving on is more trouble. :)
Von's great. I know his stuff.. have a book or two of his around here somewhere.
