just because I think it may get lost....
GraphicDesign.SE is having an Election! Nomination phase starts on Monday, May 7th.
Can a RO/mod please pin that? ^^

As it was asked, so it shall be.

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ done.

1 hour later…

Opened it back up
@WELZ ^^

12:03 PM
@Ryan RIP Business Development :(

12:13 PM
:(

awh. I didn't know they changed the proposal time limits

1:14 PM
@WELZ seems to be an uproar and accusations of power abuse because no time was given for already proposed sites. On the other side and as a business decision I can see why they did it though
and morning

Morning Darth
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ I kinda feel bad for the original asker...

Don't know, they will likely never get their answer.

well they should have come back and made an edit. If they dont come back I wonder if there whole purpose was to get free work, will never know.

it's pretty clear the whole purpose was to ask a question about how to do something in Illustrator
no idea where you're getting free work from

1:30 PM
someone wanted someone else to tell them how to make something without showing us anything is where I'm getting that from. Seems they wanted someone to make them a tutorial

Welcome to Stack Exchange
"showing us anything" does not change the answers, and Welz doesn't get any more bitcoins with it or without it
if you want to categorize that as "free work" then every question is a request for "free work"

@JohnB maybe poor choice of words at the time, lol

the entire timeline of this question confuses me

how so?
and good morning, hope you've been well
congrats on the new job, that I recall, you mentioned several months ago

You closed it with one vote as "too broad", then edited it, it got re-opened (with one vote by me because I do not think it was too broad), then it was closed again, then "fake work" was edited in, now it's re-opened
all without the OP contributing anything more

1:40 PM
@JohnB you didn't reopen it (5 users did)

@WELZ "with one vote by me"
as in, I contributed

ahhh, I got confused there

I kept my promise, I wanted the question to be open too but it would have taken a tutorial and that wasn't in scope. As mentioned by my comment and Welz and I talked about what would it take to get it opened and I said an attempt of some sort so he edited that in and I reopened it

your stipulations are strange to me

1:44 PM
You don't like the question because the OP didn't show what they tried. Now you like the question because Welz edited in fake effort?

the question initially wasnt in scope and the comments that were written reflected that

I don't see how that improves the question

Meta post?

no I liked the question at first because I thought it would have been fun to write a script to build that, on my own, I stated to bring it out of broad an edit should have been made and it was
@WELZ doesn't bother me on bit if it does or doesn't have a meta post.

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ did you delete all the comments?

1:46 PM
The edits do not make the question any more or less broad. It's the same exact question

@WELZ yes I purged all the comments since the question was edited and it wasnt closed

(IMHO) The point isn't that they (the op) shows work, it's that work is shown - so future readers see what kind of asking if appropriate.

I have forever insisted that "not showing what you've tried" is not a valid reason to close questions

I actually made a color group with all the colors I wanted and then added double that amount in white and used a random color script to fill (-the middle colors) and the results are pretty nice.

well I disagree because 1) we are not a tutorial board we are a Q&A site and 2) when nothing is attempted that leads to a multitude of possible answers. So you're saying we should start allowing questions that ask for a tutorial?

1:50 PM
The OP is not asking for a tutorial, they are asking an objective question to which an objective answer can be provided. This question does not require a tutorial to answer

sorry on this one I disagree the initial title before edit said: "How do I create a circle graphic pattern like this is Illustrator"

How is that asking for a tutorial
And if you think it is, how is it not asking for a tutorial after the edits

the edit shows an attempt and the answers can reflect how a better attempt or a modification to that attempt was made.

But the edits to the question to not change the validity of the answers
you can roll back all the edits to the question and the answers are all still valid
I don't see how "an attempt" makes you think it's not a request for a tutorial
It is still the same question

@JohnB because the attempt shows us what they've tried to help get them a better answer
sorry in and out right now

1:59 PM
which they still haven't done because it's Welz's fake attempt x_x

I agree but we've talked about it in the past that if a question is edited to be in scope we can open it

You closed the question as "too broad", can you explain how this question is too broad
because it is pretty focused on creating one thing
I gotta run to a meeting, but this question is a good example of what I talked about here: graphicdesign.meta.stackexchange.com/a/3380/8708
later dudes

@JohnB later man
@johnb I respect a lot of points in your answer. I would like to question though if someone posts a well designed poster and asks how do I create this you're for leaving it opened and answering it?
I'm working on a meta I'd like to see your views @JohnB

2:37 PM
@JohnB asked a meta question would love your thoughts

Q: Where do we draw the line on tutorial based questions and what is acceptable?

DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀWe've discussed this topic lately and within the last couple of months another meta post, What to do with tutorial requests? — part II. The top upvoted and accepted answer encourages to allow them. My views on tutorial based questions primarily exist on the realm of does it have some sort of ef...

@WELZ I agree and was equally dismayed to see the vtc
It's an excellent critique q.
