@quietflyer howdy
per tag usage, this is cleaner and better
quoting the help center:
> Every tag you use should be able to work, more or less, as the only tag on a question
do you agree now it's better this way with the newly created topic? BTW there are older posts that would also benefit from it
by it, I mean this new topic,
Sorry, I don't agree with your edit. It's fine if the community wants to "burninate" a tag entirely, but I don't agree with deleting tags that apply unless it is strictly to make room to provide a better one because 5 others already exist, by deleting the one least-helpful tag in the list.
Yout approach is going to fracture things so that someone interested in learning about, say, "flight-mechanics" will find essentially zero topics coming up, because they will all be subdivided into other things.
But, I've spent enough time on ASE today, I'll wait till tomorrow to put it back. Then the questions will get boosted up any way which is not a bad thing. :)
@quietflyer I see your point, here's a compromise for now:
if flight-envelope in on itself isn't bothering you, add additional tags as you see fit to it

@ymb1 -- re What is causing these “corners” on this F-104 V-n diagram?-- did you possibly mean to select "flight-mechanics" rather than "fluid-mechanics"? No, the "flight-envelope" tag is not bothering me at all--
@quietflyer I meant that indeed, thx, fixed

Q: Do [flight-dynamics] and [flight-mechanics] mean the same thing, and what about [stability]?

ymb1I don't think it was brought up before. The tags flight-dynamics x120 and flight-mechanics x51, don't they mean the same thing? Should one be a synonym of the other? Note that the latter has no usage guidance as of writing this. Perhaps one is a subset of the other, topic-wise. Also, given the ta...

Q: What's the point of the tag [aircraft-physics]?

ymb1The tag aircraft-physics is too broad; it reminds me of the now-dead flight tag. It usage guidance says: ... aerodynamics, flight dynamics, stability and control, aircraft hydraulic and electric systems, engine thermodynamics All of which have their own tags, as they should, so what's the point...

Q: The reason tags become vague, and how we can fix the issue

ymb1The site suffers from many ambiguous and misused popular tags, say 100+ questions. I'm hoping we can fix those, given the importance of grouping topics. The reason tags become vague By checking older discussions here, it appears to me that if a topic is a subset of another, retaining the main tag...

@quietflyer the issue is, after consideration, is that most of those popular tags are not well-defined, which breaks the grouping of topics principle -- I've raised some of those issues now on meta, hoping the community is keen on fixing those, which isn't going to be hard either
