Could someone tell me why the question about g-forces on birds is considered on topic?

12:52 PM
And while we are at it, can I interest someone to reopen a question that is about aircraft? (aviation.stackexchange.com/q/26103/1467)

@Federico probably because of the aspect of comparing this to pilots of high-g aircraft

@DanHulme I could agree if that would be the main focus of the question, but as it stands now it is a minor addition put there as an afterthought.

Hey guys, just realized that PeterKampf is 99.9k right now. Should we have some kind of celebration when he passes 100k?

@kevin I think so, especially since he never comes in here so he wouldn't know ;)

I haven't got any ideas as to what we should actually do though

I love that the first two answers are contradicting each other. :)

@abelenky on what question?

2
Q: Is this plane landing or departing?

abelenkyI have a picture of Air Force One I took fairly up close several years ago. Unfortunately, I don't remember if that was on arrival or departure. Is there anything visible in the airplane's configuration (flaps, angle of gear?) that would indicate if this is arrival or departure?

Should I add a touch-and-go answer?

I'm thinking arrival because it doesn't look rotated enough for a departure, but I'm no plane-spotter

@fooot I swear we are looking at different pictures.
Where are you seeing spoilers? The reverse thrusters aren't deployed either... And wouldn't be even if it were landing, because they can't deploy until weight is sustained on the main carriage.
Further, I don't see the smoke you are seeing, though I do see a gray building behind Airforce One.
@abelenky I'm blaming you for this. Apparently your picture is quite controversial. Next we're going to be trying to figure out if we can see bigfoot in the cockpit or not.

@JayCarr I just meant that the items at the end could be clues in general but you're right we don't have any of that information, I'll try to clarify that.

@fooot Ah, right, I see what you are saying. I'd wondered if that was what you were going for.
Admittedly, if the tires were all down and the spoilers were up or reverse thrust was deploying...that'd make this pretty easy.
I think @abelenky is making this hard on purpose ;). That being said, I'm kind of enjoying trying to figure it out.

Yeah me too.

8:46 PM
@kevin It should involve cake...preferably cake that is not a lie. This is important if we're going to celebrate.

8:59 PM
It started as an honest question. :) I really didn't recall the details of the picture.
Now, based on the hangers and my location, I'm convinced I know the answer.
But its based on geography, not the particulars of the plane.

9:42 PM
@abelenky Well, maybe an image from google maps that shows us exactly where the plane would have been on the runway?
Unless it's midfield on a 25,000ft runway, I think that would tell us all we need to know.
Though personally, I kind of feel like the picture was taken at midfield, because you seem to be just beyond a taxiway. And that taxiway seems to be quiet wide... And with that cone there... I wonder if you're standing near an unloading area. And I think that'd put you about midfield.
That's pure conjecture (and I can easily manipulate it to support my original hypothesis), but it seems to hold up.

go, @PeterKämpf! 99,953 rep is rounded to 100k!
@kevin heh... I just saw that too! ^^^ I agree that it's party time - our first 100k user!

10:09 PM
@abelenky Awww...I didn't see you had posted the answer until after I posted all that. Well, there you go.
The fun part, now, will be seeing how many people vote for either of the options.
